Why wasn't that 5 or 6?

It's coming, some poor team is going to get hammered soon

Flores and Wee Mac were sublime. Matty is obviously rusty but puts himself about so well.

Should have been 5, could have been 8. Great, can only improve. Monty MOM for me, worked his butt off all game. Marco very close, set up so many chances. This guy is awesome. Thanks heaps Victory.

Decent win.

We were lacklustre for much of the game but really sparked up when Simon came on. We played some very nice Football in patches and looked much better than last week.

Passo. 7. Looked comfortable. Two slightly dodgy moments but solid and the first clean sheet of the year.
Storm 8. Looks like the buy of the season.
Rose 8. Brilliant. Great in defence and attack. The best he has played in a long time.
Tesco 7.5. Good game. Only worry is he sometimes allows his man to slip away from him. Tighten that up and he will dominate.
Ando 7.5. Much much better.
Weemac 7.5. Great to have him back. A couple of nice free kicks as well.
Hutcho 7.5. Did a solid job....apart from the shot.
Monty 8. Top game. He could end up player of the year at the current rate.
Fitzy 7.5. Great first goal and looked really lively. Would have been a 9 but for the missed hatrick. Starting to look the business.
Flores 8. So much class. Lovely feet. Also would have got a 9 but faded badly in last 15.
Duke 7. Did well on the goal but not in top form ATM.

Simon 8. Two bad misses but wow what a cameo. Scared the shit out of the Pissant defenders and his work rate was amazing. I wish he had come on earlier.

Mom ..very hard to separate....Rose, Storm, Monty and Flores with Fitzy getting a mention in the dispatches.

3pt rose
2pt monty
1pt storm and Flores

Great crowd for Adel game and the YA were fantastic (apart from Aha song!)
Credit to the stands tonight....it gives me a buzz when they sing.

As I have said a few times, we are a very good side that is still to gel and so many of our key players are not fully match fit yet. Really....the starting side is beginning to take shape and of those guys, JP, Storm, Ando, Fitz, Matty, Flores, Dukey, have not played regular football last year. Get them all 90 minute fit and we will be hard to beat and will smash the bad teams. Good result and Matty looked awesome when he came on( yes missed a sitter but other than that).

Storm 8. Looks like the buy of the season.
your kidding wombat .he was flogged by cirio .the only time we looked in trouble
was every time cirio got the ball and took storm to school .
rose looked good because they only went oneway .
monty looked even more legedry than usual because he was cleaning up
and if he wasn't hutch was.
they identified a weakness and played there all day.

flores (where not worthy)

Simon 8. Two bad misses but wow what a cameo. Scared the shit out of the Pissant defenders and his work rate was amazing. I wish he had come on earlier.
the turning point of the game . their height was killing us . it's why arnie may be able to snap his fingers and open the doors of the tardis

flores parsecs ahead off anyone . every movement is a delight . you just pinch yourself .that he plays for yellow
monty and hutch like something out of a biggles novel arriving in the nick of time to repel the horde
fitz and simon the redemption .fitz a great goal after such goal mouth ineptitude. simon
back to his combative best ,measured aggression . after a nearly zad like performance against heart

Wombat is being a bit gracious with his scores. If we were as good as he made out we would've won 5-0. We dominated the game, but they have some astounding players that exploited us as well.

Arnie after the game:
“We got a clean sheet and there were a lot of
promising signs,” Arnold said. “The good thing was
that the boys stuck to the game plan, and had good
character even though we missed chance after
chance.”
“I will also say this is the best start that we’ve had
in the three years I have had at the Club. We are
probably at about 50 per cent of where we will be in
another four or five weeks.”
“As a team the way we do things is we build into the
season. We don’t want to hit round one in great form
and fall away. We want to be hitting our straps a few
more rounds in.”

I didnt see that TB. Apart from the time he beat 4 of us in the box.
My only criticism was that like Tesco he occasionally was a bit loose on his man.
I might have to see the game on tv to see if what you said was valid but Adelaide created very few chances down either flank so im not sure what you actually witnessed.
I saw a quality fullback who links well with the midfield and is extremely comfortable on the ball.

I guess that why arnie said "storm, storm he keeps turning you on the inside " gesticulating with hand signal what he was was doing.
that was about the time reddy started spraying with water the legs of there players .egged on by simon and griffiths

Pretty in Pink
This was a most curious game. The Mariners could have had three or four goals yet Adelaide had most of the ball. Justin Pasfield did not have a shot to save but was probably the Mariners best player.
When Nick Fitzgerald scored after just 90 seconds it seemed as if the Mariners would run away with but sometimes an early goal doesn’t lead to a goal rush. They dominated proceedings, pressing the Adelaide defenders high and keeping them penned in their own half. From time to time Adelaide would break out and an occasional cross would give warning not to underestimate them but for the most part the Mariners were on top.
Michael McGlinchey started for the first time this season; Zac Anderson replaced the injured Marcel Seip and Matt Simon and Mile Sterjovski were joined on the bench by 17 yr old Jesse Currans, a youth team player.
The Mariners, dressed suitably for Pink Ribbon Day - the only A League club to do this, in front of a very decent crowd of more than 9,000, had much the better of the first half; Fitzgerald was almost in at the far post from a Flores cross and it was Fitzgerald in the closing minutes of the half who really should have scored when brilliant approach play set Rose free on the left but he hit the bar when it seemed easier to score.
In the second half they sat back, inviting Adelaide to come at them but despite overwhelming possession they were unable to do so. It was if the Mariners had such disdain for the Reds that they decided to test out their defensive structure. The whole team dug in, chasing, harrying, doubling up, and denying space. The band played ‘We are the Champions’. Pasfield did not have a shot to save.
Perhaps it was just too easy; the Mariners became untidy. Passes went astray, tackles were missed and poor decisions were made. Something had to change and it did.
Arnie brought on Matt Simon and the Mariners went forward. McGlinchey came close from a clever free kick; Galekovic went full length to save. A foot or two higher and it would have been a goal. Sainsbury and Simon both had headed chances from corners. Sterjovski replaced Flores and the Mariners encamped around the Adelaide penalty area and laid siege to the goal.
Sterjovski brought calm to the confusion of the penalty area and placed the ball past Galekovic but not past the post, from the rebound Simon somehow skied the chance over the bar. It was an open goal. A few minutes later, Simon again, after good approach play, shot wide when he should at least have got the ball on target.
The Mariners played out time and took the points. They clearly felt satisfied with a thoroughly professional performance; it should have been 2-0, it could easily have been 4-0. Adelaide, minus key attacking players Geronimo and Carrusca, were toothless.
The Adelaide coach says they are a work in progress, he does not expect success this year. The Mariners coach says they are a work in progress and believes this is their best start to a season – he does expect success this year.
The Mariners are carrying an air about them that they are capable of dealing with anything thrown at them; there is belief in themselves which borders on the right side of arrogance. It is as if the engine is idling waiting to kick into full throttle as the season develops. Already they are shaping as serious contenders.
I thought Monty was our best he was everywhere in midfield, but Pasfield is my MoM simply because he did everything so well even if he didn’t have a shot to save. He commanded the penalty area, played the ball out calmly and even gave us two Mat Ryan type long kicks direct to our players – which the coaching staff applauded. The back four all did well, Sainsbury even giving us a very decent impression of the great Franz Beckenbauer with a surging run in the first half and Fitzgerald and Duke ran all day. Flores wasn’t at his best but still gave us moments of magic; McGlinchey was quiet by his standards.
