I am beginning to think, as fans we have been expecting far too much from a team that has little in common with last years side that was exceptional playing above expectations.
We have been told a lie with the pre season results.
Now we are playing the real game the effect of replacing at least half of last year's starting lineup is beginning to show.
Our defence is a clear example. We have replaced 4 of our starting back 5 and the one we have kept is showing a worrying loss of form and what appears to be confidence. It will take a far while for coordination between them to develop.
This is just one example of the battle this season will be.

Completely agree.

The hype surrounding how much was going to be delivered this season.. via increased expenditure, extra investments, the supposed purchase of quality players.. to be dished up that makeshift, clunky and lacklustre performance from a team that clearly hasn’t gelled, is beyond despair.

I get that we are a selling club.. but what is the point of selling our best players for supposed 6 figure salaries if we haven’t invested in players as good.. or better?

I genuinely don’t doubt that Monty and Serg have exceptional skills in terms of recruiting players who fly under the radar but have genuine promise.

However, right now I’m looking a team
Thinking… Fuuuck. ?

Credit to the club for how much is obviously being put into fan engagement.. it’s noted and appreciated. But at the end of the day, if the results don’t deliver on the pitch, there goes your engagement. If the players don’t seem to care about playing for the shirt, the badge, the club, the fans… there goes our support. I’m taking no joy in tipping us getting smashed on the fan hub the next couple of rounds but that’s where I’m at on the basis of rounds 2 and 3.

I would not say I was expecting too much, I just want to see some awareness from our manager.

After the last game it was plain to see that there was some weakness that could be exploited by opponents in the back line, and it continued into this game, one of the CB's should have been pulled in the first half when it was realised there were continuing issues.

Kaltak and Tulio to the airport.
We do need more from our visa players. Tulio hasnt shown much yet and wasnt the game changer I hope he would be yesterday.

Some have mentioned Urena going and it feels like Cummings is now torn between being where we need him to score and being where he needs to be to make something happen - only theres no one for him to feed.

Most concerning part for me was a distinct lack of leadership which led to no one being accountable and no one taking responsibility. There was no hunger or desire to make the ball yours and take the game to Perth.

That game was ripe for anyone to take it by the scruff of the neck but no one did and we got what we deserved unfortunately. On to the next one, see how we bounce back!

Last season there was an aggressive killer instinct to the team. They were confident and energetic. They went for it whenever possible and defended like it was their nest.

In contrast the last 2 games were played like training runs, and we paid for it.

What surprises me most is that I saw a lot more of this preseason than I usually get to and I'm not seeing it translated into the real competition.
Everything we need to be competitive and a finals contender is there though.

For me there's 2 things that need urgent adjustment.
1. More penetration through the middle. We don;'t have the tallest squad and hopeful balls into the middle aren't going to cut it. So 4231 maybe?

2. Tempo and intent must go up. We should be fit enough and we need to use the pace of players like Garang, Beni, Silvera, Ruhs and put Cumdingo on the end of it.

We do at least point 2 and we start winning these games I reckon

Kelechi intercepted the cross well for the 2nd goal but max was just unfortunately in the way, the thing that shit me was it was probably the 5th time Kaltak was completely flat footed ball watching. He may be able to hit an okay pass and leap for a header but he is not upto this level defensively.
first goal him and storm being so flat footed on the rebound is criminal.

I’m very concerned after losing such a winnable game.

triantis, Kuol, aquilina, hall, cresnar and ruhs or Tulio all have to start next week.

fazz had his worst game in our shirt today. The amount of times he got time and space in behind and his delivery was atrocious.

There needs to be a formation change. We need a 3rd centre mid. You can still play the same style. But way too often for the last 3 seasons we’ve been murdered by only having 2 CM’s.
At least then we have the excuse of “too many new faces” i suppose…

Monty can't keep fixing pregame mistakes after going down though. Kaltak while skilful doesn't deserve a spot. John while deserving isn't fit enough. Fazz and Ballard while deserving on last season aren't ready this season. Our play is very very slow when we are in the game and lacking polish when we are behind. Our back 3 of Danny John and Kaltak aren't good enough going out of our back third.
Rowles and Birraz are proving massive losses. Bringing home Danny, to basically retire is not serving us well. We need authority at the back. Big ask for Hall or Triantis to deliver.
I thought Balard hard a very solid game…

I think I underestimated how many new players would be in the first 11, and it's clear that the boys don't have the fluency of knowing each others' games just yet. Hopefully it clicks bloody quickly!

Positive to our issues - it seems mainly mental. Lack of urgency in general, complete lack of desire around the box, these are things that can be changed with a dropping or 2 and the right spray from coaches.

negaitve - sadly I have the feeling that we went from a team of players last year that were playing for an opportunity - be that in this squad, overseas, or at rep level to a side that is ‘waiting’ to do those things. Faz, kuol, Benny, really stood out for me that they didn’t have their heads in that game.

Faz is rightly copping it, but Benny has been asleep for 2 weeks now and has returned to the trash he was to start last season. Let’s hope he wakes up soon.
