R16 - Victory vs Mariners in Tassie

Forecast maximum for this Saturday is currently 27 degrees, so it'll make a nice change to play in something other than sweltering conditions.

This is the Mariners' 200th A-League match; a first for any A-League club. It's also McGlinchey's 100th match for the Mariners. My how time flies! Bit of a shame this is happening for an away game.

I heard on the news last night that a percentage of the gate takings is to be donated to bushfire relief efforts. Nice work by Victory and the FFA. Hopefully the locals aren't too busy fighting fires to come along.

Sainsbury is out due to receiving a fifth yellow card, but I guess Zwaanzwijk should be back - fingers crossed. Rogic is still suspended. Hopefully Ryan's "shoulder knock" will be right by then (LOL).

Big test this one. Victory have scored more goals than us this season, remembering we scored 7 in one game, and they're climbing the ladder. If they can fix a leaking defence, and keep McBreen quiet, they'll be tough to beat. They've had a good run of results and kept a clean sheet against the 'Nix last weekend - although I didn't watch the game so not sure if that's down to Victory's performance or the 'Nix's.

I'm hoping Duke gets a start. Kwassie, Ibini and Sterjovski just haven't looked that dangerous when it comes to putting it into the net. And I'm getting impatient! I've been impressed with Duke's stints and would like to see what he's got given more of a chance. Our inability to score against 10 men last week (save for a gift by Wanderers) is ringing alarm bells for me. Come finals series, we need to know how to score, and we can't keep banking on McBreen maintaining this amazing run of form.

Using my completely dodgy memory, I seem to recall there's often more than a goal or two in each team when we play Victory. So I'm going to call it a relatively tight game by those standards.

Victory 2-2 Mariners

. he skilfully set up a teammate with a perfectly executed rebound off the post ... but that is as close as he has come
I seem to recall his last season with Perth, he hit some hot goal-scoring form in the back end of the season. Maybe he's nearly ready to do the same again.

...he (Arnold) did have some good news with defender Patrick Zwaanswijk confirmed as fit to face Melbourne Victory on Saturday.
The return of the Dutch veteran after a groin injury is significantly well-timed as young centre back Trent Sainsbury will sit out a suspension against Victory after accruing five yellow cards.
"Patrick is ready and he will come into the side alongside Zac Anderson," Arnold said. "He possibly could have played last weekend against the Wanderers but I held him back another week, especially knowing Trent was one booking away from suspension.
"I was conscious of not breaking Patrick, and he's better for the extra week. It also shows the competition we have in the squad now.
"You look at the way John Hutchinson was sent off against Sydney and got a ban, and Oliver Bozanic has been outstanding in his place.
"Hutch has taken it like the professional he is, he apologised to the playing group for stuffing up and has to earn his place back."

Having said that, Zwaany has scored more goals in half a season than wilko in 7 years ;)

. about time for him to pull his finger out this season ... we need to make sure someone other than mcbreen can score regularly even if it is a CB

Mm, I don't really think that's too much of a problem. Was probably a bigger concern when we had Matty Simon and half the time our entire attacking strategy seemed to be 'boot it to Matty!!'

When is the last time Hutcho scored?

Sterj has been quite good without hitting any great heights but most of our middies have been underwhelming when it comes to scoring so i'm not sure he should be a scapegoat.

Well, Hutcho isn't such a "go forward" kind of guy although, as captain, you might think he would lead the way.

You make a good point though. It would be nice our go-forward midfielders could contribute a bit more to our goal scoring efforts too.

Goals......I'll take them from wherever they come :)
