R16: Mighty Mariners V SCUM

I'm an idiot savant without the pesky savant bit
WELL...that was one of the best first halves we've ever done ...the Army were having a ball..good to see the joint joining in on their turns...
Caceres goal was a nominee for goal of the year, I thought the kid from the Roar kicked a beauty on Friday night, BUT A.c's shat all over it
good to see everyone step up for the derby..3- 0 at half time was lucky..shoulda been 5 or 6 by rights...THEN came the 2nd half...and "General" Montgomery gets subbed off for the foundation player and it looked like our shape went to shit...luckily Scummers had very little to offer...I asked OzBaggie and Wombat if ZadkoBITCH was secretly on our books...he was doing us all kinds of favours...Heskey..Donkey...

and I have to ask...is it just me or does it look like the new fitness guy is working the boys too hard...when Clarky had 'em they could go 90+ without gassing up or cramping...now, not so much...BUT...bottomline..We Won...we shall now call it the F3-0 Derby

What a cracker of a night. Bay was pumping, Cassinho's goal - well, not a bad way to get off the mark. I believe the technical term is "pick that out". McBreen's was sheer quality. Good to see Simmo on the score sheet again, will do wonders for his confidence. Love beating the scum.

One thing I didn't love was players not bothering to acknowledge the fans. Few posts on Facebook about it from several people (and I've been told it will be raised first thing by the club, which is good/needed). We towel our fiercest rivals up, we'd love the chance to give you a pat on the back/sweaty man hug/high five. These blokes are heroes to so many of us - I'd give my left nut to be a professional footballer - and all they can manage is a piss weak half hearted wave from 20 or so metres away. "How to Disengage Your Fans 101".

That may have been because of the "sweaty man hug" or the fact that Monty had been subbed off.

I don't want to sound like an apologetic and I agree that they could've done a lot better. .
But I also wonder if it didn't have something to do with the state that they were in by the end of the game... Some of them almost crawled of there, cramping... They played their arses off...

Still agree though, they have to do better than that... Even if it's the guys on the bench coming over.
On that note, cudos to Pasfield for grabbing some game time in goals for the Wyong u6 the kids seemed quite happy with it :)

Fantastic first half and great result but a couple of worrying things. As Recky points out we had a number of players struggling with cramps and it wasn't even hot last night. Have noticed over the past couple of games we have had players struggling.

Also not sure what was going off with Trent in the first half when he gave the ball away 3 times in about 2 mins when under no pressure at all. Was seriously talking to himself, slapping his head really looked like there was something seriously wrong. Wondering if he had a knock to the head or something.

Finally it was a good job the scammers finishing was awful we are still giving away far too many chances. We started the second half very slowly but replacing Monty with Hutch really sent us backwards. The Monty/Caceras partnership certainly looks to be our best 6/8 combination a Caceras gets us going forward a lot better than Hutch who usually has us going backwards.

Great signs just need a bit more consistency and to tighten the back 4 up.

Tend to agree to some extent. However, our fitness regime under Clarky, and hopefully now under TK is geared towards the pointy end of the season and the ACL. Maybe this is just a tweak that was put in place at the beginning of the season, maybe it is TK's changes, we don't know. If it gets us fit and firing for the rest of the season and allows us to rest when we have multiple games then I think we'll all be happy.

I know the traditionalists prefer the 'F3' over the 'M1'. But when it comes to the derby we proved last night ...

Great night. Well done to the yellow army and all who joined them, were vibrant from start to finish. Has been a long time since I remember us drowning out the scumcastle away end the whole game /clap.

Thanks to Masterfoods for their support for another season. Great to see local business jump onboard and a Big F U to the mariners/a league haters that would like to see us financially go under.

Caceras! what a goal, what a different player with confidence and self belief. Fantastic effort and result by the boys but im not getting too carried away, if newcastle made more of their chances it could have been a much closer game, we did get exposed at the back a bit.

Macca! It looked like another mariners attacking raid broken down trying to be cute outside the area but with two players in front of him, with limited room nor option hits a beautiful curler into the top corner leaving Brigihti dumbfounded.

Good to see the simon of old seemingly more comfortable and enjoying himself out there now. We know his not world class but he gives 150% is an absolute nuisance to the oppositon tracking back harrassing and winning posession and most importantly scores us goals.

I cant see Duke making the starting 11 except on rotation, I honestly think ibini and fitz make a better 'winger' and mcbreen and simon would be hard to dismiss up front.

Montgomery, as Ive heard people say, He is, faarking quality :)

What is with Anderson breaking down every game around the 70 min mark, always cramping. Hope he gets it sorted. Kudos to club legend Hutch, been playing well as centre back when his had to fill in. Mr Utility.

And im sorry, very sorry, but I cant hate Reddy anymore. Just cant. Has been outstanding.

Also Met the new ceo. Seems very genuine and passionate. Also rounded up some players when he overheard my daughter ask her mother why the players arent coming around. My daughter also managed to bag his signature much to his suprise :) and told him she enjoyed the fireworks.

Ok I've watched it on the box and the only thing I noticed was Sterj had a better game than I thought.

He looks like a passenger at times due to his lack of movement but he still has a touch of quality about him.

Reddy 7. Another clean sheet if somewhat lucky that The Bogan Scum are so poor.
Storm 7. Pretty good.
Ando 6. A bit sloppy at times.
Tesco 6.5. Looked more like a Falcon than a BMW last night.
Rose 7. Good game...worked hard.
Fitz. 7. Looks at home in the first 11 and getting better each game. Him on one side and Ibini on the other will be a handful.
Monty 7. Must be the starting capt from now on.
Caceras. 7. Brilliant goal and starting to look the part.
Macca 7. Brilliant goal and looked interested. Good game.
Sterj. 6.5. Decent game
Simon 8. Top game. MOM.

I think we learned that Caceres is nearly there, and we've got 3 good options for DM with different strengths. I still think Hutch is the best passer of the three (and is still a deserving captain of our club), but Monty's a very good ball-winner and Caceres has the potential to attack from deep positions that could lead him to be better than both.

Simon's hit some decent form too. Good run out, though honestly the score maybe flattered us a little bit. We were a little bit open and would have conceded against better sides. But we've now only conceded one goal more than Brisbane, and if we can build on this stiff defence with some vibrant attacking football we're definitely in the mix for at least a top two spot this year.

For some context, we're in the mix for a season that will mark a special dynasty at this club. We would be the first club to ever finish top two four years in a row and barring accidents in the finals we would be the first club to qualify for the Champions League four years in a row. If we somehow eke out another 23 points from the remaining 33 available, we'll also be the first club to crack 50 points four years in a row.

Who would bet against us?

I keep replaying the Caceres goal and jump to my feet every time; we need to be sponsored by Toyota: Oh, what a feeling!:overheadl:
Extra spice too with it being Psycho Zadko's pass that Caceres intercepted:thumbup:

Hutch should still be the club captain without doubt and he is a very useful and experienced player to have on the bench.
He is like Sterj. Good quality but slightly passed their best, however crucial to help bring on the other players and fantastic to have guys like that to come on and close out a game.

Yeah I walked past them heading back to the stadium in the opposite direction to everyone else. They were hardly scary.

One of them looked like he was going to walk straight into my 8yo son until he saw me watching and calmly stepped out of the way. How tough!

I'm a pretty immature person at times and sometimes your roots betray your behaviour but I was standing outside the ground with a mate waiting for someone to come out and I watched PP interacting with some of his mates who were a bit younger in a little huddle having a sing.......as per usual a drunken bogan scum retard tried to cause a row. He had a couple of piss weak looking mates with him but I've been in far too many situations not to see weak older people looking to fire off against what they see as weaker younger opposition. I stepped in to help Pete's little crew although they looked like they had it well under control and it was all I could do not to crack a couple of The scummers (my 15yo son would have cleaned all 3 up on his own in about 15-20secs).
The interesting thing is that a couple of Mariners fans dived in too cool of the situation (one of the scummers was pooing his pants at this stage) and their words were excellent....don't sink to their level boys....enjoy the win with class....or some words to that effect.
It just showed the complete difference in class we have to the Scum on and off the park.
