R15 - AU v CCM

Stella was good, he'll get faster if he gets a few more runs. Pretty frustrating game, scoreline ended up being fair.
First touch I was like these NPL players take to long to make their decision and get mugged, but after that he was good.
Hope he sends Caceras a DVD on where to stand.
How long since we have had a crack front the top of the box.
His run to draw the defender on the goal to open space for Fab was good.

Agree on man on the post at corners. :-|
Why bother. Just put them at half way to take the kickoff.

Seriously wasted so much time in juniors worrying about players on the post for the big boys not to bother.

It's not the first we have conceded this way this year either.

The basics Tony:headbutt:

With McGing at DM and Caceras cleaning his boots Monty has been pushing forward more.

No no no, now with Garcia Monty must go back and McGing either CB or bench and only DM if Monty injured or suspended

="Forum Phoenix, post: 216630, member: 832"]Match report.., who wants to talk about that game? Only positives Bray Stella and fabs goal.

Time to talk about Garcia
Bozza not very supportive of the signing - maybe he is worried that an older retired than he was comes back via the Mariners and makes a success of it.

Only watched last 20 mins.
Stella impressed me
Don't waste your time with the rest. More fun MMA with your son.

1st half we were terrible. We stink against teams who control possession.
Roar and AU just joy with us.. AU terrible finishing
We both missed dubious penalties. Ours worse because we were dominated and happened right on half time. If we go in 1 up at half time they would have been devastated and we would have gone in to hear Garcia had signed.

Awful first half, think Storm will find himself on the bench next week barring any other injuries in the back 4.
You need to be able to hold some possession in midfield to give the defence some respite however.
Bray is our #1 keeper.
Cant believe the discussion about our penalty, any day of the week it was a penalty but not unhappy that we missed, would have been very embarrassing leading 1-0 at half time.
Second half was really good in terms of our shape and play, Stella and Rose Jnr made a difference.
AU are a very good team, we are still getting it together.
At least any hope of making the 6 is now over, doesnt really matter if Garcia becomes our Romario.

I hardly think we stink against teams that dominate possession... We've barely touched the ball the last two weeks.
In fact I didn't think we were THAT poor... Adelaide was just better... We struggled getting the ball from them and we weren't technically astute enough to hold on to it.. They were just playing much more beautiful AND we weren't doing as well on the passes as we have the last couple of weeks.
I think that's one of the reasons Rose Jr made the diff.
He's not very strong and commanding, but he's technically pretty astute. Someone like Caceres would've been good in this game - if Caceres could've been arsed to show up for the full 90.
I think it's a good example of why you don't HAVE to field the team that was succesful one week, the following week, just because they were succesful.
Need the right players for the job.

We spar kickboxing not MMA. Knees and elbows not allowed.
And it's not fun sparring with someone....bigger, faster, possibly stronger, with 10 times better conditioning who thinks boxing is like chess.
However it sounds like the first half was worse than 3 rounds of getting digged in the ribs!

Put players on the post and their goes our counter attack from corners.
I disagree. All you're doing is putting one of the players who isn't going to counter 5 more yards that way. Not everyone is part of the counter, and everybody is there anyway.
Can't do a fast counter when you're pulling the ball out of the back of your net.

I think he was joking.

Not having someone on the post (especially the back stick) is the most basic of mistakes. Next we won't bother with a wall at free kicks.....that's how stupid it is defensively.

umm a few things . give the reds credit they were good . if Goodwin could shoot it would have been ugly.

posco ! how good is he and how much did we miss him.

stella movement and shoots , thank you.

very happy with bray , gives thb a bit more time in the under 12's after having a taste
of the big league

Luis Garcia if he's 50% of what he was then it's gold . what he imparts in professionalism and technic is priceless.

A dreadful performance and when that happens the lack of basic structure can hurt you.

Defending set pieces is our achilles heel.

Bray looked good, Tommy U as well.

Onto next week

Sadly no.
Not having players on the post is a deliberate tactic with a view to catching the opposition on the break with a fast counter attack by having 3 advanced players.
This approach led to our goal by creating a 3 on 2 situation.
We play very directly and lack a midfield that can hold possession, in our last 3 games we have averaged 32% possession, hence the counter is very important in our attacking opportunities.
I share the view that we should have players on the post but it is clearly a compromise for the team we have at the moment.
That said we had 9 players in the box defending when we conceded from the corner, agree we need to be more adaptable in our defensive tactics depending upon the state of the match.
The goal by Sanchez was exceptional however, the direction he was running and the power he managed to get with the glance from where he was.

We are adding some new players however our squad today is arguably the weakest squad in Hal [maybe in relative terms Hals history] ... I appreciate we are in a building year and we have many excellent young players ...

I think we need to accept a couple of years of pain until we become truly competitive again...
