Thought we were ok but gcu came and parked this bus.
Thought crowd was fantastic but pitch was terrible.
Thought no one really shone for us.
Thought we missed Griffo very badly
Thought Simon was very off his game.

More thoughts and player ratings later.

PS. How shit are the cards Dutchy has been gettin?
Maybe 1 has been a proper yellow card, the rest have been such a waste IMO

Talking of Yellow's, Pedj's was the worst - from where we were sitting he seemed to be a metre from the player he "fouled" - does the GCU player get suspended for 'simulation'?

. plus the replays on the big screen only showed space

. perhaps there was an 'ankle-tap' as the player cut across in front of him (both travelling quickly) ... regardless, would this warrant a yellow?

James Brown fell over his own feet. He was no where near Pedj.

For mine definitely another case of the stage fright@Bluetongue.

It makes me cringe when we get a good crowd at home & we play well....not good.
There were so many 1st timers & fairweather fans there that we needed a great performance to get them to come back.Alas though,we failed once again to capture the crowd.
That said, the last 15mins were very exciting & both sides had the opportunity to win or loose the match. However, a draw is better than a loss & even the Roar drew a few times in their record run.

Ryan 7 -very few opportunities to get into the match but what he did he did well
Bojic 6 - it`s like an invisable wall suddenly appears when he gets to the edge of the box.He then takes the stop & back pass option or the shit cross option.
Wilko 7.5 - a few loose passes but dynamic in defence
Dutchy 7.5 - as above but some lovely long switches of play
Rose 7 - he`s played at this level for a few weeks now, time to take another step up to the level we know he can achieve
Hutcho 6.5 - a good utility player but not at the same level as the player he replaces
Olly 6.5 - needs a few more games to get back to his best.He should try to play simple instead of trying for the miracle pass & losing possession.
Wee-mac 7- some loose passes but also some great dribbling runs in the second half.
Amini 6- well off his game.He never really got into his stride & constantly lost the ball.
Simon 6.5 - service to him was very ordinary..Largely ineffectual today, maybe had other things on his mind.
Bernie 7- A very quiet game, once again the service was poor but GCU defence was equal to his efforts.
McBreen - lifted the game but some poor decision making let him down
Hearfield - always adds something to the side when he comes on.

I would have loved Matty to have played his best game to a large home crowd. After last nights game I don`t think that will happen, but I hope we can send him off with a standing ovation for the service he has given to this great club.

Crap referee.
Crap pitch.
Massive defending by Gold Coast (reminded me of socceroos in the old days) led to a crap match.

Only a couple of chances but should have been taken. One goal would have forced a change in Gold Coast's tactics and then we would have had a game.

Might have been a good game to bring Amini off the bench after McBreen took the sting out of Sally or forced him into an indiscretion. Maybe.

Gold Coast was fast and big in defence. They will knock over many teams in 2012.

Ok.....details are mildly hazy but I,ll give my opinions without the benefit of watching it again.

Ryan. 7.5. Looked sharp and over his minor wobbly period.
Bojic. 6.5. Attacked well but final pass or cross were often wayward. Tried hard.
Rose 7.0. Starting to look the goods again.
Wilko 7.5. Pretty solid and very determined.
Duchy 8. Dominant game.
WeeMac. 6.5. He was shocking in the first half but good in the second.
Hutcho 6.5. Not as bad as some are saying. He looks lazy because Olly and Weemac are such lively little players alongside him but the main problem is he has no second gear. If we are cruising at two nil up he looks great but when we need to drive forward and attack he looks pedestrian and lacking in creativity.
Amini 7. I thought he was quite good but often isolated by his team mates. Gave the ball away a bit easily at times.
Olly 7. Good work rate but like Amini gave the ball away cheaply when trying too hard. For mine he just pips Hutcho and should start against Victory.
Bernie 7. Decent effort.
Matty 6. Too busy thinking about whether he is going to be eating Fido burgers in Korea because his mind wasn't on the job.

Subs. McBreen and Hearfield were both useful. I'm tipping McBreen to be bernie's strike partner once matty goes and to do well now his confidence is high.

johnass salay has to given credit for his job on armni.
matty leaving too was the single largest issue on the teams mind
mcbreens long range shot would have been goal of the season .his exacution was off
but it was a good idea with nothing else on the table

a chance to atone wednesday with another big crowd to see harry

It is amazing, and annoying, how many people turn up in the East Stand at New Year dressed in their yellow. Where the hell are they the rest of the time? Do they dust off the yellow as part of some weird holiday routine?

it's possibly down to people being semi-regulars.

let's take the the average crowd to be 10k.

let's assume the average fan makes it 2/3 of the time, but always makes it for NYE.

it follows that you'll have people who attend roughly 8-9 games a year, with NYE always being one of those. week to week you have a crowd average of 10k, but because that third of the crowd that is normally doing something else isn't, you end up with 15k at NYE.

they're people who've got an 8-9 game per year commitment to the side though - they aren't bandwagoners dusting off the old colours, they're just prioritising, and everyone wants the NYE game.

this is entirely hypothetical, but I think it's entirely plausible at least as a means to illustrate the dynamic.

we're talking about averages too rather than absolute specifics - there's inevitably some degree of a bandwagon element for 'event' days, and on the flipside I know of a few people who'd normally come to the game and were doing other NYE things...

Thats us. Four children 10-18 and there is always a lot happening on weekends. Sometimes we can all go to home games; sometimes most of us; sometimes if we are low on cash it is just my husband taking son with his free general admisssion and sometimes none of us can make it. But New Years Eve is something we always try and get everyone there for. You dont have to be sitting in the marinators bay or go every time to be a passionate supporter.

Good point but also add: -
a)that everyone is on holidays
b)the combined races/football/fireworks promotion
c)it`s a planned family night with fireworks after the game
d)easier for dad to get a leave pass
e)people want to show off the new Mariners gear Xmas present

it all adds up..

Roy Law....I always sit bay 46 eastern stand so maybe it`s `cos I was wearing the new Xmas deodorant.. :innocent:
anyway I didn`t mind the company & I must say the girls from the Coast looked sensational at the match... :eek:verhead:

a ball kicked out by Matty around the 25th minute hit my son smack in the face, only a few seconds after my two sons swapped seats. Had hoped to see it on TV but you only see matty clear it out.

Ted...tell your son to treasure that moment...that might be the last time someone gets hit by Simon at BT... :pirashoot:
(didn't someone get hit a couple of years ago, and Simon give them their boots...seems like a recurring theme. Watch out Korean fans)

PS. hope your son is alright. I don't mean to be disrespectful

We were worried at first when it happened as he has a shunt implant to drain fluid off his brain due to ongoing surgery, but all seems ok.
