ccmfans.net is the Central Coast Mariners fan community, and was formed in 2004, so basically the beginning of time for the Mariners. Things have changed a lot over the years, but one thing has remained constant and that is our love of the Mariners. People come and go, some like to post a lot and others just like to read. It's up to you how you participate in the community!

It only takes a few minutes, and joining will let you post your thoughts and opinions on all things Mariners, Football, and whatever else pops into your mind. If posting is not your thing, you can interact in other ways, including voting on polls, and unlock options only available to community members.

ccmfans.net is not only for Mariners fans either. Most of us are bonded by our support for the Mariners, but if you are a fan of another club (except the Scum, come on, we need some standards), feel free to join and get into some banter.

Player movements 2013/2014

Maybe at CB (where until/unless we hear confirmation otherwise we have Sainsbury and if not I'd be happier to see us nab Wilko or Neill), maybe RB (where I'd be happier to see us play Morton and get him developing), but his best spot (DM) is all locked up.

Where is the Wilko talk coming from?

I'm not sure where the Lucas Neill rumour comes from but it does make some sense. The FFA have moved the season to accommodate NT players. We are regular finalists and we are qualified for next years ACL. The follows the World Cup and the ACL.
Charlesworth makes the ambit statement that he's not sure we will play in the ACL. FFA tells him don't worry. We need Lucas in Australia to be the face of the NT as we build up to the World Cup and try to sell the Asian Cup to Australia. Don't worry we'll cover a lot of his cost.

Following on from that we need:-

a new GK to back up/compete Pasfield,
2 new CBs - with Zac moving up to the first team then 1 needs to be a first XI player and one a backup.
a new RB to compete with or play in front of Morton.
a new CAM - we have options such as Caceres, McBreen and Wee-Mac but CAM is not there first choice position
a new striker - ideally young - given that Daniel and Mile (if he plays) will probably be playing their last season.

Following on from the Wilko/Neill/Thompson ** discussions and looking at the above for the balance of the side. Given the losses we have suffered/are likely to suffer have affected one of the best back 5s from last season that's were the most attention needs to be.

Then the following would be the type of players I would be looking at

GK - Velaphi / Van Stratten / anyone that JC recommended
CB* - Neill/Wilko/ plus a young CB or a returning Aussie like Aaron Downes
RB* - Neil/Wilko
CAM - bring in Thompson as the utility.
CS - someone like Patrick Antelmi

Neill, Thompson, Simon and Wilko would all command decent salaries. We apparently were close to the cap last year. Of the guys we have lost and are likely to lose only Patrick would have been on big money. If Neill came in he would have to be as a marquee and we would probably also have to utilise the $150,000 towards the youth marquee allowance.

* Only need one of Neill/Wilko if Trent remains with Wilko the definite preference for the long term. Mr Charlesworth might disagree as Lucas would puts bums on seats.
** I think any two of the three would be fine - bringing all three in would put the development of Anderson. Morton and Caceres at risk.

as anyone at the korean game can tell you. he'll never pass the NDT .
then on the return leg, mossy worked him out by placing a man 10 metres in front of the ball. he takes about a
15 metre run up for a free kick. give me thompson anyday

Aaron Downes isn't good enough...I watched him last year. The Mariners are looking for more ability on the ball from their defenders

would sombody who's rubbish be able 2 score a 200kph freekick look it up on youtube!

He won't be doing that again. As mentioned above - he takes a 15m run-up. Just place a person 4m in front of him (11m from the ball) and he doesn't know what to do. Do you really think that didn't get picked up by opposing managers?

Like wow .... and Fozzie will become a Mariner fan now...

. especially if we sign bosnar ;)

. but then if eddie is found out and the theories posted here are correct ... it will be business as usual and somehow the mariners will have ruined his game :p

is bernie going 2 china 4 the money or is he seroius about going 2 a better club ?

In this case I believe money is the main reason for Birnie going to China. He'll get 3 times as much as what he gets at mariners for a 1 year contract. He'll be staying and fed in a 5 star hotel + personal chofer / translator. He is serious about his football and this will certainly help his development both as a player and as a person. Good luck Birnie.
