ccmfans.net is the Central Coast Mariners fan community, and was formed in 2004, so basically the beginning of time for the Mariners. Things have changed a lot over the years, but one thing has remained constant and that is our love of the Mariners. People come and go, some like to post a lot and others just like to read. It's up to you how you participate in the community!

If you want to get rid of this message, simply click on Join Now or head over to https://www.ccmfans.net/community/register/ to join the community! It only takes a few minutes, and joining will let you post your thoughts and opinions on all things Mariners, Football, and whatever else pops into your mind. If posting is not your thing, you can interact in other ways, including voting on polls, and unlock options only available to community members.

ccmfans.net is not only for Mariners fans either. Most of us are bonded by our support for the Mariners, but if you are a fan of another club (except the Scum, come on, we need some standards), feel free to join and get into some banter.

6 years and multiple seasons tickets in company name and not one canvasing call to see if they could extract anything more from me.
Your right ADZ their engaging of the small to medium size business is non existent and they are missing a big opportunity through special business packages.

. it is a real chicken and egg situation

. i think the issue with engaging with businesses is a resource thing ... it needs people and people with time (and no doubt the power to make things happen)

. the problem is we have always been run on a shoestring ... and the team is at the pointy end of what needs to be successful. lets face it if the club can't afford to put the guys up for an extra night in perth or force squad members to fly separately on a discount airline i can't see them employing people to look after the small businesses of the central coast

. someone suggested the other day that the club should engage with each and every business on the central coast, etc, etc ... imagine the logistics of that - there must be thousands of businesses

. but you need to spend money to make (or attract) money. if they can grab some big wins then hopefully there will be more opportunity to look after the smaller interests (but only where that interest exists)

bikinigirl - I agree with what you're saying, and I was a bit more understanding and patient 6 years ago when we started, but surely they could have built something up by now? As far as engaging every business on the coast, it can't be that hard to pick up a phone and start ringing... there are marketing companies on the coast that will do that for you.

elevated position - Exactly! As a Melbourne Football Club member I am contacted a few times every year, they are either selling raffle tickets ($200 a pop not something I can afford though! But major prizes.), or reminders to renew membership. I've not been contacted once from CCMFC like this.

Demons have a new program this season "Dob in a Demon" to get more members.

President Jim Stynes has set everyone involved with the Club a challenge in 2011, to help us reach 40,000 members!

We need your help to find every Melbourne supporter who is not a member.

Surely it's not that hard to put a little bit of effort into this stuff. I keep waiting every season hoping things might change, and just getting more frustrated... maybe next season...?

im sure if they struck out an arm in need, the little people (small business)are always the ones to hold their hand out to help...not medium to large business.

i own three businesses of he same nature, have been a member of the mariners since day one but never had the interest to turn to them with my business.

there is a lot they could do in engaging in the local business community, im sure 1/4 of the members are self employed or work in small business. Why not set up a small business registry for members to access and save when using those businesses with discounts etc

with that they also automatically get a register of who has a business and who may contribute in so many different ways to the club.... everything is not just monetary.

i would be willing to put my business dollar in, wether player backing (sponsorship) or even sponsoring the youth league but there needs to be a lot of boxes ticked before i would even contemplate it.

my thoughts only

So.. IMO the reason you get 40k+ members in an AFL club and less than 5k in an A-League club is not voting rights.

No actual ownership, but a feeling of ownership as a big part of the community furniture over many years. The town's club at the behest of the town, not the club of a corporation being loaned to people at the behest of the corporation.

We also tend to forget that all sporting clubs in the past had their beginnings in communities, by communities, for communities (sounds like the Gettysburg Address  ) and that still holds it's original meaning and is carried over in most successful clubs to this day.

That's how the afl get their enormous memberships and it's really no different to how today's EPL clubs earned their followings and many other top teams in the world for that matter.

We also forget private sporting club ownership is a relatively new phenomena in Australia and never in football until the aleague.

Good post .... and TBH something LM should have been working on in his marketing roll..

Have always felt we talk big on the connection to the football family that are the park teams ... but do we delivery the perception or do we feel short of our own perception...

I honestly think if we took this to the broader CC community and especially the park teams .... we would get the money very quickly ... like 10, 000 people at $ 50,00 solves the problem...

Scoober Im with you on this subject and I too would sub something.Lets say for example a small business pack (SBP copyright 18/3/2011)of say $2500.00 for 4 individual platinum season tickets a signed jumper and tickets for 2 to the Mariners Medal night (do they still do those). If used in the correct manner there would be tax consessions of nearly $2000 per application.

Adz — In regards to the Dob In A Demon promotion, Genesis Fitness club do that (the gym at CCLC).
You give them 10 friends and you get the choice of a free backpack, shirt or gym towel or something like that.
Genesis then call those 10 people up and offer a discount if they sign up.

To make it more reliable, you could do it so that when a friend signs up for membership, you tell them to put your name down and then you get a gift from the club.
That will get people to get their friends to sign up.

Someone once told me a great idea.

For one week a year when the players are not doing much (around the same time memberships come out) the club should put the players on a renewal and membership drive.

Imagine a call from Josh Rose asking if you are going to renew your membership, or if your membership has lapsed a call from Wilko asking if you would consider becoming a member again.

Would have a pretty high success rate IMO.

It might slow down the memberships. My daughter would hold off on renewing until she had repeated calls from Olly.

Why wouldn't the mariners target something around the local club finals or clubs end of seasons presentations? They could do something such as offering discounts if you signed up at one of the days or maybe like the Coles sports gear vouchers offer to provide equipment for the clubs based on the number of memberships.

I think we need a forum with the Club to find out how the "Supporters" can help.
As I`ve said here before the club doesn`t want me to be a member as I prefer to buy my tickets each game.

It's really quite simple - the gate for the major semi (whether 7k or a little more) shows that the Mariners have lost touch with the community. It happened about two years ago and hasn't recovered. I get a little tired of the Mariners being the example of a community club when quite clearly they aren't. I have stories from small businesses about the lack of communication and respect shown to them by the club. Some of the ideas expressed here - genuine membership packages, players calling the fan-base etc have merit and are worthy of discussion with the club. So how do we make that happen?

The thought of the Mariners folding and having to decide between supporting the Scum or not following the A-League at all is too horrible to contemplate.

:'( :vomit: :'( :vomit: :'( :vomit:

I put my trust in the people who have steered such a steady ship over the past 6 years.
