I do agree somewhat with what parksey said about there being dickheads at every team, but there does seem to be more dickheads amoungst the jets supporters then other a-league teams that come to bluetongue with similar numbers.

They ripped two Mariners flags off our windows and then one of these "supporters" dropped their pants and they generally threatened my wife. With so many of these "supporters" around, my wife was very nervous about what else they might do. We will contact police but they won't be able to do anything about it. Has anybody else encountered anything like this?

I think the main reason for that is the nature of the match. Its a derby, both sets of fans are going to stick it to the other. When newcastle fans go to Melbourne for instance, there would be no where near as much violence as when we travel to Gosford, and I'm guessing the same goes with when the ccm fans go to melbourne compared to when they come to newcastle.

I am not here to preach to anyone, I am just providing a perspective from the other side of the fence as it were, it wouldnt have mattered if we had won or lost. You can take what I say with a grain of salt or not, its a free country. Unlike some people (again on both sides) I am able to have a conversation of sorts with opposition fans about the game regardless of the result, without the need to resort to petty namecalling.

True.  ... and we know what you're saying. But I think it is a waste of time actually worrying about them. Better ignoring them and actually having one of those civil conversations you speak of. They won't change no matter how much they are told they are stupid, because they are stupid to realise it.

Everybody has these sort of problems. I've encountered dickheads supporting pretty much every team in the A-League (well except Wellington, haven't been there yet). Tards throwing flares, glass bottles and coins on countless occasions, Coasties trying to punch on outside the CCLC post-match, Jets throwing bottles and other shit from the top tier onto away fans, Queenslanders trying to punch on in Caxton Street, Reds throwing glass bottles at away fans and Perth kiddies running into the away bay pushing and throwing punches. And yes, I've had to pull Sydney fans away from throwing haymakers at opposing fans.

In nearly all situations, it's the people who have either had too much to drink or don't know where the line is between being a supporters and being a dickhead that cause these problems. They make up a minute fraction of these teams supporters but everybody gets blamed for their actions.

Is it unfortunate that this happens? Yes
Should it be stopped? Yes
Can it be stopped? Short of having police actively control and herd supporters in and out of venues, No.
