ccmfans.net is the Central Coast Mariners fan community, and was formed in 2004, so basically the beginning of time for the Mariners. Things have changed a lot over the years, but one thing has remained constant and that is our love of the Mariners. People come and go, some like to post a lot and others just like to read. It's up to you how you participate in the community!

If you want to get rid of this message, simply click on Join Now or head over to https://www.ccmfans.net/community/register/ to join the community! It only takes a few minutes, and joining will let you post your thoughts and opinions on all things Mariners, Football, and whatever else pops into your mind. If posting is not your thing, you can interact in other ways, including voting on polls, and unlock options only available to community members.

ccmfans.net is not only for Mariners fans either. Most of us are bonded by our support for the Mariners, but if you are a fan of another club (except the Scum, come on, we need some standards), feel free to join and get into some banter.

New coach - now we know

I would like to think that the Club has learned from bitter experience and has progressed an order of magnitude since the mullet and Okon times.
I suspect the Club has worked out a list of desirables and essentials and being Champions have had a host of applications from quality candidates rather than a few desperate to chose from as in the past.
Maybe this time full due diligence has been done and we are on a winner.

The Club has developed, learned from past mistakes and has become far more professional than it was.
If MJ does as well as Monty our Club will grow and move from strength to strength and become a real force in Australian football.

The next year or two will be critical for the future.

Possibly a wonderful time to be a CCM member.

In fairness MJ went 14 from 20 with the u23. And I was the one who raised it regarding AP. So not just shitting on someone's pillow.

I was just tired of the back and forward bullshit that this had devolved to. So didn't retort.

We all want the team to win. We all have opinions on who could do that. We all will give MJ our own arbitrary amount of time to win our adulation or disdain.
I know. But also got sick of anyone backing Cahn as a “cahn fanatic” or “Facebook loon”.

Did I have a dickens of who Jacko was prior to this? Nup.
Will I back him until proven otherwise? Yep.
Do I hope he succeeds? Of f**king course.

Phew....lol....i will ignore.

Your posts are normally decent.
I'm serious, calling people Spastics is really offensive. Cerebal Palsey is not a joke. I know where you're coming from because I'm from the same era, but you need to reign that in, it's dinosaur territory in the modern world.

Anyway not where this should have gone. Let's look forward to Weds and ACL.

Ok Nanna.

Bring on Wed when we can actually talk about Football again.

Some of the reactions around the place are a bit dramatic. I’m interested to see what he can do with the squad but if he doesn’t put up a solid run in Asia as well as at least being in or damn close to the top 6 by finals the obvious question will be whether Cahn should have got a shot. Let’s hope it doesn’t haunt us.

We haven’t been this negative up front about a coaching appointment since Arnie. So fingers crossed :tophat:

Pretty decent compared to other academy managers. But most have watched him ply his trade in NPL, taking Olympic to 5 straight GFs, and then taking Melb Knights to their first finals in 8 years (in his first season there)… what was his win % there?

(Cahn fanatics at it again, probably)
You’ll probably also notice his youth development got put on the back burner during his NPL success given he had big budget NPL quality squads with plenty of ex pros in his squads.

Arnie... those were the days. When my mate told we got Arnie I swore loudly and fruitily about his many shortcomings.

It took one match for him to turn me around.

As a seasoned national team watcher I think Arnie plays the most horrible football imaginable.
Defending doggedly looking to scrape a 1-0 win at home to whof**kistan is peak Arnie. Jose without the flair.
Apart a few games his football for us was awful too.
Okon with better players.
Monty and Ange play the beautiful game. Pace, power and constant attack.
ArnoldOut. Keep the faith

Are you taking the piss?

The reason he plays the way he does in the national team is because we don't currently have the attacking quality to win against better quality opponents.

Case and point, the comparison between Ange and Arnie in the national roles, Ange went for it even when we didn't have the cattle up front, because of this he had some stupid results e.g 2-2 vs Thailand, the glorious losses in the WC. Arnie builds from the back created structure, he's a pragmatist. It worked too last WC.

I thought Arnie was great for us.

And very adaptable also - watched him change shape and system several times mid-game to respond to what the opposition were doing. Changed the team profoundly in his second year to make Hutch central after Amini left. And it worked, despite Hutch looking average the year before when he'd come on late to replace Amini.

My favourite Arnie moment (besides winning the GF) was a game at home against Brisbane - back when they were just about impossible to beat. It was stinking hot and for the first ten minutes Sains, Zwaanswijk, Hutch and Rosey just passed the ball about in big triangles at the back. Berisha chased the ball like a mad thing (as he always did) but after about ten minutes was cooked and took little further part. We then started to play football and won it 1 - 0. Genius by Arnie..
