National Youth League Fixtures and Mariners youth team discussion

Out with the old...

Walmsley will likely have carte blanche to reshape the entire playing and coaching setup (within an agreed budget, of course), so if people don't fit the blueprint...

Surprised there hasn't been any chat about this yet, but the latest review of FNSW competitions has concluded and both Sydney FC and WSW will be in the NPL2 and NPL youth from next year.

In large part, this means that the FNSW Institute programs (which will cease) will actually be replaced by two programs and be topped by the Sydney FC and WSW NYL sides, who will form the backbone of the first teams.

There will be Sydney FC and WSW sides competing in NPL youth (U13,U14, U15, U16) and NPL2 men's (U18, U20, Firsts). They *won't* be in the Skills Acquisition Program (U9, U10, U11 and U12) at least in the short term, and I don't think there's been anything new determined for the girls' and women's side of things, though it seems to be a no-brainer that they will undertake a similar process to split the FNSW Institute and bring the WWL clubs in.

If CCF and CCM ever get their shit together (some time after Rodney Croome and Cory Bernardi win Australia's Got Talent by performing a steamy lambada together, presumably) you'd imagine that the CCM Academy will be resurrected and do much the same thing. Jets might have to bring their academy sides to FNSW comps to get a strong enough standard of competition - I gather the Newcastle league is good but not *as* good as the Sydney-based leagues.

Anyway... anyone heard any fun news about this?

Would it be necessary to do this, though? CCFC are already in Men's NPL2, Women's NPL1 (albeit coming last in that competition) and the SAP. There's also Northbridge/North Shore Mariners who are in Women's NPL1, and the men's side is currently top of MSL1 and would be a strong chance of being promoted to NPL2 next season.

I'd rather focus on getting those two sides (along with WNSW Mariners) as proper feeder sides into CCM NYL/WWL teams with consistent coaching and playing styles than resurrect the Academy and put players and parents through yet another (potentially destructive) change.

The point is that it shouldn't be a huge disruption - it should just be a closer relationship/partnership and I think it should carry the Mariners brand.

Even if CCM & CCF managed to get along like a house on fire there would still be some disruption involved in going from a rep system managed by CCF to one managed by CCM. You'd also need to overcome the scepticism that a large number of players/parents would have - they've already been burnt once by the CCMA experience, would they really want to risk it again?

We're also uniquely placed in that a single district association covers our primary supporter area. CCF are the ones with the better relationship with the local clubs, and also have the most experience in managing a state-level representative program. Why not leverage that to our advantage? If we put a proper effort into supporting coaching and development at CCFC - along the lines of the Northbridge relationship - there's no reason why that team can't also carry the Mariners brand.

Was wondering what was happening with this so it's good to hear.I had this strangle feeling they would dump them in NPL 1 and say no promotion from NPL 2 which would hurt us.Especially considering we are first in the club championship.
From what I know recently the relationship between club and association is on the up.Shaun walked into a mine field and is doing his best to repair the damage.It's going to be a slow build but hopefully things keep going up.

FFA announces revamped Foxtel NYL competition for 2015/16

Football Federation Australia (FFA) today released a new revamped format for the Foxtel National Youth League with the publication of the 2015/16 draw, following an extensive review of the elite player pathway and the Foxtel National Youth League competition structure with competing clubs and member federations.
The new Foxtel National Youth League competition format balances the footballing objectives of the competition whilst supporting each Hyundai A-League Club’s PS4 NPL calendar and providing youth players competitive matches up to 40 weeks each year (excluding participation in other fixtures such as the Hyundai A-League, Westfield FFA Cup, Foxtel National Youth League Grand Final and Friendly matches).

The first of the major changes sees the ten clubs divided into two conferences; Conference A (Adelaide United, Brisbane Roar FC, Melbourne City FC, Melbourne Victory and Perth Glory) and Conference B (Central Coast Mariners, FFA Centre of Excellence, Newcastle Jets, Sydney FC and Western Sydney Wanderers FC). Within each conference, the teams will play each other twice over 10 rounds (4 home / 4 away – 8 matches and 2 byes per team).

The Foxtel National Youth League will commence on the weekend of 7/8 November 2015, with the top team from each conference to meet in the Foxtel National Youth League 2016 Grand Final on the weekend of the 23/24 January 2016.

FFA’s Head of Hyundai A-League, Damien de Bohun, was excited to release the new competition format and draw for the Foxtel National Youth League after years of development.

“The move to change the format of the Foxtel National Youth League competition began in 2013 when FFA reviewed the competition structure which was finalised in July 2014. As part of this review, FFA obtained feedback from various stakeholders including Hyundai A-League Clubs, Member Federations and FFA’s National Performance and Technical Department,” said de Bohun.

“Throughout this consultation process a number of issues were identified regarding the current structure of the competition and its important role of player development. The participation of Foxtel National Youth League teams in the PlayStation 4 National Premier Leagues (NPL) was seen as providing Hyundai A-League Clubs with a more effective youth development framework, without the extensive travel requirements that were deemed to be counterproductive to youth development. Taking all this into consideration, it was timely to consider changes to the Foxtel National Youth League competition for the 2015/16 Season onwards.

“During the Hyundai A-League Club Chairmen’s Meeting in April (2015), the new Foxtel National Youth League competition format was endorsed by Hyundai A-League Clubs and then later approved by FFA’s Football Development Committee for implementation for the upcoming Foxtel National Youth League 2015/16 Season onwards.

“This initiative falls perfectly in line with the goals of the National Football Curriculum and also of our recently released Whole of Football Strategy Plan,” concluded de Bohun.

FFA Technical Director, Eric Abrams, also believes that the new Foxtel National Youth League format will be of great benefit to the players and clubs for years to come.

“The Foxtel National Youth League has been adapted for the upcoming season in line with the elite player development pathway as we all work together to produce quality footballers for the Hyundai A-League and the National teams.

“From next season all nine Australian Hyundai A-League clubs will have their youth teams will play in the relevant National Premier League competitions over the winter months against men and then come together for an abbreviated National Youth League season.

“It is an exciting step forward for football in Australia as our talented youth players will be able to take part in a coordinated “year-long” program in a consistent environment that will help develop better players,” concluded Abrams

Other key features of the Foxtel National Youth League 2015/16 Season Draw include:

  • More favourable Kick-off times for matches during summer months for majority of matches;
  • One Hyundai A-League Curtain-Raiser (15 Jan MBV v BNR prior to Hyundai A-League match between the same two teams at AAMI Park);
  • 6 Westfield W-League Double-Headers
Conference A

  • Sat 14 Nov – MBC v PTH
  • Sun 22 Nov – MBC v ADU
  • Sun 20 Dec – MBC v MBV

Went down 2-1 deserved a point. Played well against a very experienced Sydney side. Great game to watch, impressed all round well done lads.
