Things have changed a lot over the years, but one thing has remained constant and that is our love of the Mariners. People come and go, some like to post a lot and others just like to read. It's up to you how you participate in the community!

It only takes a few minutes, and joining will let you post your thoughts and opinions on all things Mariners, Football, and whatever else pops into your mind. If posting is not your thing, you can interact in other ways, including voting on polls, and unlock options only available to community members.

ccmfans.net is not only for Mariners fans either. Most of us are bonded by our support for the Mariners, but if you are a fan of another club (except the Scum, come on, we need some standards), feel free to join and get into some banter.

Perhaps I should clarify. The signing may very well be recent but the possibility of him joining the Jets is not. Has previously trained with the Jets youth squad.

So the folks on here (and the Newcastle Herald) just got lucky I suppose. Ask them about lotto numbers, I'll go halves in a ticket with you.

They read the paper!
I am not going to go into details of a personal nature to "win" an argument. Just understand this he made is decision Saturday just gone he still has not "signed" for either team, but will be signing with Jets, barring a miracle!

Is he that good though? We seem to have a pretty good record of late of identifying the gems amongst the youth. Maybe the Mariners brains trust assessed him and he didn't make the cut (???) I'm going to give us the benefit of the doubt on this one (hoping like hell it doesn't come back to bite us :tophat: )

The Mariners wanted him the Jets chased him. He has had a good/ok year with CCFC completely played Brady Smith off the park when they played against each other a few weeks back, however I think the prospect of playing for the Jets in the NYL and then the Jets in the local Newcastle premier league was a major factor. As was the fact that he trained with the Jets last year. He is only just 18 and has a very good left foot can dribble and is very confident. The coach of the Jets is also good mates with his dad!!!!!

The Mariners are chasing players Australia wide for their youth academy and are holding trials in July ... the following article has a fair bit of PR in it ... but its the bit at the end that caught my eye..

http://www.ccmariners.com.au/default.aspx?s=newsdisplay&id=40115

The Central Coast Mariners NYL management is looking to conduct a closed trial for selected players in the July School Holidays with dates and venues to be announced to selected footballers shortly.

Players interested in trialling for the club at youth level or joining the Mariners development programs are asked to visit ccmariners.com.au and/or e-mail info@ccmariners.com.au.

To think we could survive on just local youth players would be naive.

We have been recruiting Youth players Australia wide for some time now, & with GA in charge we have someone with a bit of insider knowledge of the younger players coming through.

Our set up, at present,is one of the best & it will only get better with the COE opening.

I feel however, that we also need to focus on the physcological aspect of these young players coming to the Coast.

Players like Sainsbury (who comes from Perth)leave home at a young age to follow their football dream.

They leave behind their families & the ordered structure of family life.
In essence they loose their support mechanism to a large extent.

In Europe,Clubs have a system of host families that the young players stay with, where stay within a family structure (pay board)continue their studies etc.until they are of an age where they are mature enough to move into other accommodation on their own.

This network of host families provides the stability & support for the young players & also teaches them some domestic responsibilities away from "mum & dad".

Things like diet, cooking, washing, cleaning, etc.that young guys take for granted, have to be instilled in them somewhere along the line.

Even the continuance of their education is catered for, with clubslike Newcastle United, having a classroom set up on their ground.
It is compulsory that the youth players have to attend.

IMO that is one of the reasons why so many League players go off the rails.

On reflection I think we may have kept a player like PEREZ if we were more in tune with the social needs of the player & his family.

Your thoughts?

I think you have something there however at this stage most of the yoof training is done in sydney(Castle and Westfield High I believe) where the guys can stay at home (or close by).
If they move to Tuggerah then that will be an area I think the club will look at. I say "if" because CCM now have a Sydney Academy and I dont know to what level they intend to take it too.

Having an Academy in Sydney is fine for the guys that live in Sydney. However,I was thinking more of the players that move here from the country, interstate or maybe(in the future) from overseas.

Years ago nay many years ago I believed I was something special as a RL half... but to relay some knowledge I have from those days which I am lead to believe still happens... TBH could also happen in football but have no knowledge of it...

OK OK I will get on with it.... young players on trial were placed in homes with local volunteers in as much accord as could be expected with the home life they were leaving...

The system worked extremely well, I recall a player from country NSW, who came from a very catholic family and was quite religious. He was in many ways quite young to the wider world... he was placed in a catholic home near a church and the volunteers ensured he got to school and all that kinda stuff ...

I wonder aloud if many Mariner fans would volunteer for such a role if the club ever asked...
