ccmfans.net is the Central Coast Mariners fan community, and was formed in 2004, so basically the beginning of time for the Mariners. Things have changed a lot over the years, but one thing has remained constant and that is our love of the Mariners. People come and go, some like to post a lot and others just like to read. It's up to you how you participate in the community!

If you want to get rid of this message, simply click on Join Now or head over to https://www.ccmfans.net/community/register/ to join the community! It only takes a few minutes, and joining will let you post your thoughts and opinions on all things Mariners, Football, and whatever else pops into your mind. If posting is not your thing, you can interact in other ways, including voting on polls, and unlock options only available to community members.

ccmfans.net is not only for Mariners fans either. Most of us are bonded by our support for the Mariners, but if you are a fan of another club (except the Scum, come on, we need some standards), feel free to join and get into some banter.

I prefer the long winded scientific answers better tbh. Knowledge is power after all

i always have a nagging feeling that one of the qualified engineers on here will pull me up on a really basic screwup though.

some american hippies have worked out a way, using mirrors to intensify the suns heat to 2400 deg., to seperate the necessary elements for the production of petrol from air.
petrol is made of hydrocarbons (hydrogen and carbon). these guys have seperated carbon monoxide from the carbon dioxide in the air leaving only pure oxygen behind.this means petrol can be made without using oil and the by products of petrol such as carbon dioxide is used again in the cycle.
i can try to post a link for a video no this if anyone is interested

Never trust Thatcher, she tried to kill football as live spectator sport after the Luton - Millwall riot in the 80s. It is not a coincidence that tha only club to introduce the slightly less decronion ID that banned away supporters had a Tory MP as it's Chairman!

Back on topic, I saw the car on Top Gear and it looks very interesting and surely the money being pumped into the US cars companies should be directed to this type of new technogy which will allow the US to be self sufficent in their energy needs and then negate the need for them to get involved in the Middle East!

Link if you have one

http://hessmo.com/Hessmo/James_Mays_Big_Ideas.html

the third video on the page.
the video goes for 60 mins, this bit is in the last 6 but the whole thing is about alternative fuels and is worth watching.

OK so to make hydrogen requires a lot of energy. So our energy grid has to be upgraded.

If we put in a new power station we will have the NIMBY effect prevalent wherever a new power station is proposed or an enlargement of an existing one put forward.

If we use existing technology to make energy we have to look at cleaner technologies to use coal - if that exists- or go to boutique energy options like wind power, wave power, solar power. Or look at the nuclear option which at present will leave a legacy of contaminated waste for years to come.

How big a power station would be needed to make enough hydrogen to the level of imported petroleum that we use today?

If there's a need for hydrogen power - it seems the current alternative power option that has the most complete technology to go into production - then could we, as a country, build up one or two big power stations and run those as a processing centre for the manufacture of hydrogen? Keep the power stations off the grid, just make the hydrogen with these specialised stations.

Would the power stations negate the advantages of a mass of hydrogen cars running around, with the pollution they would produce to make hydrogen?

If the answer is that we'd still be better off proceeding with hydrogen power for most cars, then it would come down to coaxing a car manufacturer into ditching petrol engines and installing hydrogen technology.

Holden would appear prime for this type of approach, they could keep their existing plants open, produce hydrogen cars for Australia, and hopefully make enough profit to show the GM people that this may be the way to go.

Before the cars roll off the line, get the energy companies that have built the power stations/hydrogen processing centres, to set up refilling stations around the country.

With the profit they make from the hydrogen, they could manufacture would be ploughed back into the maintenance of the processing centres and research for cleaner technology for power.

If such a scheme proves good, then the Govt. could, with the stroke of a pen, alter the Australian Design Rules for private motor vehicles and light commercial vehicles, banning petrol combustion engines.

Then the other manufacturers, if they wanted to sell cars to people here, would have to adopt the technology too.

Nah, I spend all day being technically correct; no inclination to do it when I'm surfing the net too.
