Things have changed a lot over the years, but one thing has remained constant and that is our love of the Mariners. People come and go, some like to post a lot and others just like to read. It's up to you how you participate in the community!

If posting is not your thing, you can interact in other ways, including voting on polls, and unlock options only available to community members.

ccmfans.net is not only for Mariners fans either. Most of us are bonded by our support for the Mariners, but if you are a fan of another club (except the Scum, come on, we need some standards), feel free to join and get into some banter.

I didn't think he was too bad - first touch of the game was nice and if Breeze didn't blow the whistle on what I thought was a legit tackle by him (from my point of view anyways) he would have been free with the ball well inside the box. Otherwise he didn't get it much and did miskick a few times, but I'm willing to wait and see. Will take a bit for him to begin to gel with the team, much like how Perez is fitting in more and more.

He was better than Mcbreen today by far though.

You cant judge some one so quick he was only played 30 minutes for the club and i think he did more in that 30 minutes than McBreen did in 60

+1 for the above 3 posts!
Guys...he needs to gel. He needs to fit in with the team.
Had a great flick on...made some good touches, and tried to get into the play.
And as a striker, it's pretty hard coming on, when your team is defending a 1-0 win!
And yes, he did more than McBreen!
He is only a new student, at Arnie's School of Football. It's much different to that shambles he was a part of over at Perth!

If I ever see McBreen start another match in our colours I will spew. If I see him come off our bench I will also spew.
Of course I won't mind seeing him come off our bench to go somewhere else.
Whether Baird has the ability that we need I will wait and see. What I did see today was more effort in his first 10 minutes than McBreen put in in the whole first half.
So far GA hasn't made a mistake with his recruits, and hopefully he hasn't made a mistake with Baird either. Time will tell.
Just get rid of McBreen please.

I agree with Bob & Bill and others...

Baird did several decent things today, (Which sadly is probably a better effort than Danny McBreen imo)
And he did one VERY good thing...better than Mc Breen, or Simon for that matter...
His runs and positioning and willingness to make them presents exciting potential.
This guy is just stinging to make a run and be released - Perez missed by millimetres putting him one on one - and there were several other opportunities if the Mariners players had been more aware... But unsurprisingly tehy weren;t used to looking for it as a constant possibility.

Arnie was spot on again, this player does offer something completely different upfront for us - with his speed we now have the option of being direct in a way that we have never been before, and this in turn usually opens more space for our talented ball players with defenders dropping deeper to prevent the fast forward from getting too easily played in behind.

And FWIW, I don't thin McBreen is half as bad as he's currently playing and everyone is naturally saying atm.
But the fact is he is clearly not in form and looks at complete odds with the rest of the teams flow/movement atm.
Yet with our schedule he will likely get some more chances still, so i'll live in I hope that he can turn it around.

In fairness to Baird he's only just started to train with the team and only played 30 minutes so hardly had the best opportunity to impress. He showed little to impress me, poor touch apart from one flick on, wasn't particularly quick and seemed to want to fall over a lot. Kwasnik won't be losing too much sleep. But, one of Arnie's strengths (or Phil Moss's) is that players improve as individuals under him - Matt Simon and Michael McGlinchey come to mind - and Baird looks like someone that Arnie can work with. As for McBreen, he played better than he has for weeks but is as slow as an old age pensioner in the Aldi queue, it's a wonder that we did so well in the first half of the season with him up front.Hope its true that he is moving on; he got decent applause from the crowd when he came off.

The applause from the crowd was probably because he was coming off. Even my wife, who knows stuff-all about football, was asking who was the guy just standing around like a log.

Like most of us have said, Baird wasn't fantastic, but you can hardly expect him to be until a few games.

I think opposition defences worry about McBreen a lot. The reason why we won so many with him and Simon up front is that it is a really intimidating striker pairing. He seems to really cause some headaches with the defenders for whatever reason (and plenty for us too!).

I'm not saying at all that we should keep playing him, because he struggles to consistently head the ball with direction, control the ball and he would challenge Mrdja for a 20 second 100m sprint.

He does try really hard (sometimes - I thought he was really battling away yesterday) and part of me does feel sorry for him when he ruins great movements because he really wants to be a part of this team. When Matty Simon is the other striker though, we don't need another player whose best asset is his heart.

Perez didn't miss, he hit the spot perfectly. It was a defender being quick that stopped that one on one from happening.

Baird will be a great signing to have once we get a striker to replace Mrdja.

LOL. Pedant. :p

I agree he hit a beautiful ball and only quick defending saved them.
I wasn't meaning to imply he failed. Thoooooough technically... if he'd played it 5 inches wider, anticipating the defenders potential reaction... it was through... <_<
