ccmfans.net is the Central Coast Mariners fan community, and was formed in 2004, so basically the beginning of time for the Mariners. Things have changed a lot over the years, but one thing has remained constant and that is our love of the Mariners. People come and go, some like to post a lot and others just like to read. It's up to you how you participate in the community!

It only takes a few minutes, and joining will let you post your thoughts and opinions on all things Mariners, Football, and whatever else pops into your mind. If posting is not your thing, you can interact in other ways, including voting on polls, and unlock options only available to community members.

ccmfans.net is not only for Mariners fans either. Most of us are bonded by our support for the Mariners, but if you are a fan of another club (except the Scum, come on, we need some standards), feel free to join and get into some banter.

McBreen to Mariners

I suppose it's not that bad. $150k in next year's cap is only so far above average. It used to be big money.
Realistically, if you had three forwards on/around that money who all played each week (one of the bench), you wouldn't complain.

That's cool. Problem for the Jets - it specifies dollars as the unit of currency, not mangoes.

Why cant we sign a player like Minniecon or Brosque! we got this shit strikers who have no flair, hence making them boring.

Seems to me to be a safe signing .. but not someone who will win you key games... My guess is Matty may be giving signs or the club may be receiving interest from OS... Nil & DyMac are going if Matty goes we are left with Kwassie ... 150K is a big slab of our cap ...

He is a very hard working player... undecided right now..

Great signing in my book.  Big target man who can hold the ball up and can score a few as well.  Finally someone to share the workload with Matty. ...Normally Matty is just left isolated upfront while his strike partner (take your pick) wanders around aimlessly.
He will give us a much better shape.

I can't see LM letting his prodigy Kwas go although I don't think he really intended on bringing him back from NZ as a stiker.
It has only been the the appalling form of D-mac and Disco that saw him getting a run up front.
So next season we have

#1 Simon
#2 McBreen
#3 Open or Disco...most likely open
#4 Open.

Simon & McBreen is a very very good base to start with.

It still leaves us with two big blokes up front. I reckon we really need a big bloke and a smaller goal-sneak. Someone like Sasho (yeah, I know we don't want him back) or Smeltz (I can't stand the bugger, but I'd love to see him here) or even Alomissi. Gives us some more variety, makes things harder for opposing defences.

Great pick up IMHo.

Hard working, good target man, nice 1st touch. Will do the the job that Dmac cant.

Mc Breen and Matty up front will batter the living shit out of any back 4 at this level. That allows the MF to pick up the scraps behind them in and around the box.

Dmac and Nik to go IMHO

As already posted in another thread, My views thoroughly agree with FFC and Wombat.

+ if we are signing this fast 19 year old welsh striker lad... Who knows. We may already have some extra pace and flair.

But mores to the point McBreen and Matty together will open up a lot of space for attacking mids to be creative and run rampant - and you just may see the attacking football some of you are craving - just minus the two trillion step overs :-*

Together they will be _VERY_ hard to stop.

:vhappy:

McBreen also seems to be able to play hard and back up physically week after week too -  this is another big positive - last thing we need is another expensive injury prone striker.Oh and midfileder - 150k is not a big slab of our cap. Average wage can be at 126K next - so not much over as Jazza was saying earlier. Quiet reasonable really.

he's probably not on all that much coin at that age.

classic salary-cap-aware signing. known player, known quantity, minimal risk. when you've got ~$2mill across 23 players there's not much room for a gamble.

taking a low-risk, low-cost signing like this leaves room open for more 'interesting' signings.

Sheer joy at beating the scum :)

Is there anyone from "yoof" shaping up as a striker we could use?

Brady Smith has probably been the closest in line.
But unless your absolutely kicking ass, not easy to break into the senior squad from Yoof from what I've heard - and would be especially so for strikers I would think.

Maybe not next season but Fitzgerald will make it IMHO.
