It is arguable. Maybe it isn't in the bunker. Was VAR simply unable to be certain, or would it have been overruled if it was given?Yeah but with Ams suggestion that it was not off side then makes the VAR only decide on an obvious error which it couldn’t. It’s arguable that if the offside remained then the VAR wouldn’t over rule that either.
We have absolutely no idea. And that's a huge problem.
I would actually love to be able to say 'fair play Ams. I still think you couldn't handle an U/11 C grade match, but have to admit, you handled this decision really well' - but so far we're presented with inconclusive broadcast footage and with no feedback from the bunker, I have no evidence to say that.
Even IF the right decision was made - at the moment, it's still controversial. FIFA need to understand that VAR needs to be, not just about improving decision-making (epic fail down under, but that's a whole other thing), but reducing controversy. And that's where communications and transparency come into play.
Heck, even if VAR was actually inconclusive on this one - surely we have a right to know - at least we know who to be angry at!!
