I’m still going to Japan in Feb. it’s the experience.
Japan is awesome, I was very tempted. It'll still be a great trip, I'd just make sure you have other things planned as well as the football as it could get really ugly if we don't have key players back from injury.

Jacko and Danny are great coaches who deserve plaudits for the treble last season. But they shouldn't escape criticism when they have ignored a ton of history of how Australian sides are successful in this competition.
If Jacko is saying players didnt follow the plan it's hard to put much of it on him. He also didnt make some of the rookie errors (and that's being polite) that cost us heavily in previous games. It seems like he's trying his best to get a system to work with the players he has available and given what we've seen I'm not sure the boys are currently capable of having multiple plans and shifting gears.

So a year of rebuild. The team that went out yesterday had 3 players from last year (starting players) and 2 subs that would switch all last year. We were never going to be competitive in this comp especially with the reduced money from APL and then RP doing a runner. If only he had thought that maybe if he put a bit more money in this year to make us competitive in this comp then he may have got a bit of money back. Yes I know he was lossing money but he also got a fair bit from our win last year. Then he would really have something to crow about. Still positives with the young players so not all bad, just more of the usual rather than the highs. Rant over and oh we were there too Wombat 😊

Agree, I’m not even close to sledging Jacko and Danny. They are trying hard with what they have got which when you take off your rose coloured glasses is a very young inexperienced squad.

It will be more than a year in my opinion, two to three at best if we can keep a good spine of young players like Eames.

I had to wait for the replay, and for only the 2nd time since the start of the A-League I didn't watch the whole of a CCM game.
By time the 2nd goal it was clear we were seriously rubbish against a sharp J-League side so I checked the score. Decided then to not put myself through it and get some sorely needed sleep instead.

The only other game I've missed in a similar fashion was the new years eve game against Perth that year when the goals broke.

My (limited) perspective on this game was that:
- we have a seriously thin squad who are barely able to compete in our own league and will likely only scrape through until our injured players return,
and
- we were against a J1 side who are at the top of a league in which even Marco Tulio can hardly get off the bench in.

The real shame is we'd well and truly earned our spot in the ACL Elite and might have made it out of the group with the squad we ended last season with. But because we are poor and haemorrhage our bulk quality players we don't get a fair run in a comp like this. Oh well.

Onwards and upwards for the domestic league. I do think we'll make the 6 and have a run at the finals this season as we'll get stronger as we go with returning players and good coaching.

On a separate note from the game I would just like to say a big thank you to the Mariners fan who paid for my grandson’s drumstick ice cream - I was in the beer queue and foolishly gave my grandson $10 to get something for himself. It took me a few minutes to process that I had forgotten the venue is cashless!

Good trick. Not sure someone will buy me an ice cream though if i try that 😂

But bloody good to hear there are still nice people out there and they are our fans

P.s. i thought you were going to say $10 wasn’t enough for an ice cream 😬

Probably already all been said but my 2c - just completely outclassed by a better, well drilled, tactically great side. The gulf in quality between the J-League and A-League is plain to see. Australian football as a whole has a lot of catching up to do.

Eames looks such a promising player. 16 years old and played without fear. Great mentality to have as it felt like many others played timid where they were more afraid of making a mistake than taking the game on.

Fact of the matter is we've replaced classy, integral players from last season with players who just aren't anywhere near as good unfortunately.

Neither is playing well and I thought there was a translator available.
At the risk of upsetting the delicates on here I can see one deciding to go home early

I don't think he's that bad and he's improving but we really need a proven visa striker at this point and if someone on a visa was to depart before Jan it wouldn't exactly be received badly...and it ain't gonna be the ex-Leeds favored...

Reading between the lines there are a couple of Brazilians feeling the heat today.

No excuse but I wonder if they are somewhat disengaged now we don’t have a translator on the paddock?
Doka was clearly looking for and favoring Fejiaou for passes during the game, it raised my eyebrow at the time. Might not be the greatest influence on each other...?

Feeling alot of love for this post. I just get abit annoyed at snipers than can't even be bothered to go to a game but feel they can mouth off. Obviously all fans are intitled to have an opinion.

Might not be that deep. He is one of the few that will push to make a run (rightly or wrongly) and make something happen. If you’re trying to attack do you want to go to the guy who goes backwards and sideways most of the time or the bloke who runs with it, might lose it or might get into the box?
