ccmfans.net is the Central Coast Mariners fan community, and was formed in 2004, so basically the beginning of time for the Mariners. Things have changed a lot over the years, but one thing has remained constant and that is our love of the Mariners. People come and go, some like to post a lot and others just like to read. It's up to you how you participate in the community!

It only takes a few minutes, and joining will let you post your thoughts and opinions on all things Mariners, Football, and whatever else pops into your mind. If posting is not your thing, you can interact in other ways, including voting on polls, and unlock options only available to community members.

ccmfans.net is not only for Mariners fans either. Most of us are bonded by our support for the Mariners, but if you are a fan of another club (except the Scum, come on, we need some standards), feel free to join and get into some banter.

I cannot understand why he did not make Storm captain. Heaps more experience.
Maybe Jacko was not convinced he would be a regular starter.
His legs are gone unfortunately, still coping through skill, guile and treachery but he's not really a starter any more.

Super sad for that as he's one of my favorites, I love his enthusiasm, professionalism and determination but age catches us all eventually.

Perhaps.

With captaincy I figure there's always their influence off the field and at training I don't see. You'd have the finger on the pulse more than I would to know who has influence and leadership in the changerooms, I have no doubt.

We don't really see anybody taking on the role on the field, nobody running over to look after players whose heads are down, nothing like that.

Unfortunately we don't really have a single player who can regularly pull out something to lift the team. Those players are rare though.

Man, I remember hutch could turn an entire game around with a single perfect, hard-as-nails tackle.

Same with Matty Simon. And he'd look after his players too.
Some captains will have a more subdued style, of course.

Possibly because you pick out one player consistently.

And if you have read my posts over the last couple of years you will see have called others out for death riding.
If its warranted it's warranted. Kaltak has had some poor moments tonight. IMO he always plays worse with Paull next to him but maybe that's me death riding Paull if you like.

It's not reasonable to call out death riding just cos someone has an opinion on a player more than once.

When we play poorly or are overwhelmed by stronger opponents like this weaknesses are bound to be highlighted....

What I see missing is that we do not have anyone in midfield directing play. Max was good at it and Nizz was excellent. Nizz was always organising the players around him from the moment he came in the side.

We obviously have little communication at the back. It is clear there are not a lot of calls for the ball and many mixups. Probably not surprising with a young keeper.

Yep. And being able to control the tempo too. Hold or push, that sort of thing.

We've lacked communication up front at the start too, a lot of no-look passes to nobody.
Having a mostly npl side is going to make it hard to hold onto the players who come good.

We've picked up this half but it's an uphill battle.
We really need kuol to finish better this season l.

I think the performance in this game and in our overall performance in the ACL Elite comes down to Jacko and Danny. The first goal by Shandong Taishan should have told them all they needed to know about this competition. Their tactical naivety was on show tonight and has been throughout this ACL Elite campaign. You can't entertain the same amount of risk as you do in the A-League.

Historically Australian clubs have only been successful in the ACL by adapting their style of play to the continental stage. The Wanderers, Adelaide and Victory have all done so to varying degrees of success. But even Ange and Roarcerlona were humbled for not adapting. You just can't play the same way you do in the A-League to win in the ACL Elite.

While certain players' performances definitely didn't help our campaign the failure to progress to the next round lies at Jacko's and Danny's feet.
