Had nowhere near the minutes Paull has and is IMO better than Paull at the same minutes
Same same. Both very flawed and both very raw. Paull is better from what i have seen. There is a reason they are both at the Mariners.....for every Traintis we pick up there will be 5 or 6 failures.
Both could make it but both are less than solid so far.

I kinda got the feeling they didn’t expect much from us and subsequently found themselves dropping to our level in parts. I don’t think this was their best effort or showing.

That said, i absolutely thought we would get smashed. So there is that.

Hard to be super optimistic when we have such piss poor defending and still have starting strikers who absolutely can’t strike. The goals are going to be few and far between and when we can’t adequately defend, that leaves us ripe for the picking.

Anyhow. Ce La vie. Expectations are very minimal at this point so the disappointment is getting easier to take.
So we were able to drag the top Japanese side down to our level? Sounds good to me.

Scoring 2 goals against a defence which had (proudly, very proudly) only conceded 1 prior seems ok.

We’ll be fine. Tonight sucks, but we move.

Kaltak has to be tight there. You can't sweep in the box. He spends a lot of time not marking anyone. Paull's man was the one he stepped out to.
You can sweep in the box but only if your other team mates are fully in synch and picking up every danger. You have to be the conductor. Not one player in our team is a conductor!

Kaltak is too busy helping Paull and Maraugis positional play and running the team
The last 2 seasons he had Triantis /Hall and Farrell in the backline
That's a huge difference in quality!!

Theirs was very much a second eleven. Not one of the players that started for them last night started in their cup final win on the weekend. Subsequently their play was very disjointed and they tired massively at the end. Keeper error knocked the stuffing out of our game unfortunately.

That was our biggest chance of three points in this cup competition.

Let's be real, that wasn't their first team by a long stretch. The keeper was their backup who's barely played a game and some of their best players were rested. Then again with injuries it wasn't our first team either...

Watching the highlights again this morning we are the architects of our own downfall.

No idea what kaltak is doing on the first. Not only does he keep the boy onside but he isn't within 5 yards of marking anyone. He drops to the back post. Honourable mention for marguis for not marking at the front post but we look to be in a zone so if we have set him up there it's hard to adjust to a ball whipped in there.

Storm and his falcon???

Third goal was comedy of errors. Yes it's a howler from DPC but the lad really shouldn't be allowed to shoot from there under no pressure. Kaltak not tight enough. It's his man. Storm doesn't help by not tucking in and pushing him across.

Just before the pass when the lad received it in the centre circle, paull is trying to call the CMs to mark that player between the lines that he steps out to. Alfie gets caught marking no-one, paull steps in and the ball - either really well disguised or mis hit - goes to sasaki.

We worked hard but ultimately 2 deflections made it look closer than it really was.

Agree, amateur hour at best in defence.

Bloody good effort grew into the game. Very frustrating finish.

ACL and keeper errors. DPC what’s the point of being 6’5 when you have a whole in your hands.

How did Roux header loop him. It’s just not going our way.

Just need 3 teams above us to be kicked out.

Thanks to injuries, this wasn't OUR preferred line up either. Kobe's second string still outclassed us bur we showed amazing grit to get back into the game. Should give the boys confidence going back to the league

Comments about that not being their first 11 are all well and good but let’s not even try and pretend the aleague is on the same level as the J1. If Liverpool or City (well, maybe not so much city at the moment) put out a ‘second string’ side in a cup game against Salford or Grimsby, you’d still very much be backing the premier league side to win.
Still had 5 players from their last ACL starting 11 starting against us, and plenty of firepower off the bench.

I’m not saying it’s good enough from us and again it’s moments, lapses that have cost us - big Dyl switches off for a split second for the third (no idea what was going through Nath’a head), and seemingly the entire team microsleeping for the first. Even Vissel’s alleged second string side has the quality to punish those moments.
