Mariners vs Adelaide - Friday the 13th

That was a really hard watch, Iā€™ve held back on the panic stations until now but I think we may be in for a tough season.

Centre of defence & middle of the park have been incredibly poor in more than a few games now, the teams missing some leaders and real drive at the moment.

I like to think Iā€™m a super half glass full kinda guy.
But I am desperately disillusioned after lastnight. Some of the defending on display was straight up amateur. Basic shit done incredibly bad. Then everything followed that. Funnily enough the boys looked up for it from the start but it was astonishing how quickly that dissipated. Jacko looked over it. I got the feeling he is a manager not happy with many of the players at his disposal. If these kind of weak as f**k performances keep happening I honestly canā€™t see him sticking around. The only player I can pick who I think could hold their head high after that shit is DPC. The kid continues to make quality saves and very astute distribution more often than not.

It probably isnā€™t possible given our financial state but we honestly need a January clean out of the deadwood. The squad players arenā€™t upto it and even some of the regulars are so f**king disappointing right now.

Fridays never work for us.

On another note we got 1 game of the brick wall and heā€™s back to early ACL form. Heā€™s really not right this season and itā€™s costing us. If Trent was fit Iā€™d consider giving him a spell ahead of Paull
i thought he was hurt early and never recovered .
he was continually feeling for his leg

This one didnā€™t result in a goal but shows how many options teams have when they get wide and are bringing the ball back towards the middle.

Happened dozens of times weā€™re Adelaide had ball with acres of decision time in all different spaces around our box.

I would like to see us go back to the more Monty defending.

Literally holding their shirts and up their arse.
If you canā€™t grab a players shirt then you donā€™t know who your man is!

Teams who move the ball fast we canā€™t keep up whoā€™s mans who due to the changes at between out of possession defence and in possession with ball deep.

And if man marking doesnā€™t mean we wonā€™t have room when we have the ball as when we have possession you split and make runs and look for space and triangles.

Night and day some of our performances.

Terrible performance. Looked a shadow of the team that showed up against Sydney.
Word is charlesworth was there. Not a good showing in front of the boss.

In the post game, Jacko said he has no idea what happened, there was no indication that performance and effort was coming.

I have been warning about our defending for all season. Adz pic sums it up perfectly.

I would also be giving Pav a run in goals for a couple of games.

My two takeaways:
- Obviously we were poor. Why now, I don't know why because the same players have put in good performances (whether we've won or not) at times in both comps. I feel for DPC with no one defending in front of him!
- I was surprised by my gut reaction to Don't Stop Believing after full-time. "You're f**king kidding me, not tonight!" I definitely felt more down than after the Yokohama game.

Hopefully the girls can bring me some joy tonight.

Iā€™ve got no more confidence in Pav. Possibly less. I think Pete said accurately, a while back.. ā€œhe looks like a keeper who hasnā€™t played a lot of minutes.ā€ Or words to that effect. He might be an ok keeper but heā€™s not great or even good. Heā€™s not digging us out of this shithole we are in, thatā€™s for sure.

yeah dpc couldn't have done anything about that horror .but a few weeks of him resting his head wont hurt .i have a suspicion that our guys will struggle to aim up week to week .without the cattle and leadership .

you can't replace the 2 best australian midfielders ,top 4 centre back and best left back .
max's leadership and nizzy's sheer force of nature are a bridge to far .

i believe our guys will aim up next week and we'll put it to the nz plastics 8 figure playing roster.
edit (sorry playing cow's at fentanyl field)

be happy to have a team and very fresh memories of glory against insurmountable odds.

Well I was at the game with Middy and a couple of others.
Our squad is threadbare.

The Keeper, Mauragis, Storm, Paull, Alfie, Steele are not starting players in any other club apart from the Jets on current form but who can we bring in?
Doka was very poor tonight as well.
I don't think we had a single player that got a pass mark tonight....maybe Alou because at least he put in some effort.
Static and turgid but also dumb and niave.
mauragis ? no mate .he's one of the few lads that look likely.

Probably a case of complacency after besting Sydney, interesting to note there was no instagram posts immediately after last night's game as opposed to the game vs sydney when they were all uploading after the game.

Still not sure if it's a good sign or a worrying sign I mean I have seen them post after previous losses in past but the fact they haven't for this may say something

It's a good sign.

Stanton was right last week talking about the young players needing to aim up.

Defensively he is TERRIBLE. Defend or f**k Off is my mantra. How many assists has he had?

If he was scoring goals and putting in wicked crosses I could ignore his pathetic defending but like the uncontrolled olden day Storm he is costing us 1 or 2 goals per game.

Storm used to be the same before Monty taught him the basics and he had 3 fantastic seasons as a quality FB after that. Mauragis needs a massive factory reset.

I was excited when DPC came in. Suddenly we had a keeper that wasn't afraid and was decent with his feet.

Sadly he has not impressed me at all since his debut. He looks very average. I will bow to Pat Jennings who is a specialist keeper but I actually have minimal confidence in him and you can see the other teams are lining up to shoot on site.
