Mariners vs Adelaide - Friday the 13th

This one didn’t result in a goal but shows how many options teams have when they get wide and are bringing the ball back towards the middle.

Happened dozens of times we’re Adelaide had ball with acres of decision time in all different spaces around our box.

I would like to see us go back to the more Monty defending.

Literally holding their shirts and up their arse.
If you can’t grab a players shirt then you don’t know who your man is!

Teams who move the ball fast we can’t keep up who’s mans who due to the changes at between out of possession defence and in possession with ball deep.

And if man marking doesn’t mean we won’t have room when we have the ball as when we have possession you split and make runs and look for space and triangles.

Night and day some of our performances.

We were outplayed and outcoached tonight, simple as that. Adelaide’s defensive shape was outstanding. They kept channeling us down the line to halfway, where they would close the space and channel us back.

Their attacking movement was more impressive. They would roll off each other and know exactly where everyone was. This can only be achieved on the training paddock.

By far the best team that has come here the last three seasons.

Paull was poor as usual . No good having a CB who just ball watches and won't put his body on the line to stop attacks
So many times out of position and was responsible for the first 3 goals due to lack of any aggressive play
He wasn't to blame for the woes. some responsibility has to go on the lads around him. He was being dragged out onto clough so many times, especially in the second half, and kaltak and the midfield weren't doing enough to fill the hole it created.

At the moment kaltak would struggle in NPL. Him not marking is as big a part of our problem as anyone else.

I don’t have the energy or the words to convey just how bad that was.

At around the 60th minute I was thinking “this has a really similar feel to the wooden spoon years”.. then the 3rd goal went in. By the 4th goal I was yep, F me. We are there. This is bullshit.

Let’s be brutally honest.. the Newcastle game was a very ugly, clunky win with some luck from “own goal.” The Sydney game we were actually decent but also assisted by a red card.

We have had a few “ok-ish” performances in the ACL but we are also lowering our expectations with the level of opposition.

Overall, we are pretty honking.

Team looks flat, disjointed, unskiled, injured.

I don’t have much left to give after tonight.

Defending was the problem tonight.Kaltak more to blame than Paull. Also Sasha and Theoharous in the first half lost possession or produced poor passes so made it easy for the Divers.

Even Doka could not really get into the game tonight.I left at the 81 minute mark as couldn't stand watching it anymore.Lots to sort out for the Auckland game.

Clearly Central Coast no longer want an A-League team. Shocking turnout. Bay 16/Yellow Army is now a platoon. Credit to the the three or four in the Bay who chanted loud the whole 1st half, despite having very little to cheer about. Ever hopeful a different team comes out for 2nd half.
I had a bad feeling from the start about the “active level” of Bay 16 tonight, by kickoff the numbers weren’t horrid, the problem is just 95% of the people in the bay are sitting down as quiet as a mouse.

The crowd figures are unacceptable, but a good active support will bring more people through the gates, and even though realistically I can’t see our group becoming a major attraction about going to a Mariners game, we can be the reason why people don’t want to go because the “active support bay” is no different to anywhere else in the stadium.

Our next home game is against Auckland on the 28th. Unlike today, we want our presence to be known, but we can’t do that without people, hence why we will be doing a Back to Bay / Retro Round theme day where we call for all Mariners fans to come together as one for this one game wearing your favourite vintage Mariners memorabilia. While we do ask for everyone to come to Bay 16 every gameday, this match is different, if you are a part timer for Bay 16 and only come once or twice a season, this is the game to go to which will mean a big turnout in the Yellow Army which is what we all want.

Well I was at the game with Middy and a couple of others.
Our squad is threadbare.

The Keeper, Mauragis, Storm, Paull, Alfie, Steele are not starting players in any other club apart from the Jets on current form but who can we bring in?
Doka was very poor tonight as well.
I don't think we had a single player that got a pass mark tonight....maybe Alou because at least he put in some effort.
Static and turgid but also dumb and niave.

That performance was utterly unacceptable this season or any other for that matter. The boys looked like strangers all game and that didn’t really improve as the game progressed sadly.

I was pleased to see the two changes at HT (albeit I would have hooked Doka instead of Sash) but the decision not to make any further substitutions until the 86th minute, when the boys had failed to turn the tide in the second half was a head scratcher for me.

Fresh legs and players with points to prove, might just have helped our cause but we will never know and giving Eames and Wilson just five minutes to impact the game appeared pretty pointless for mine.

Very disappointing and frustrating night, which will do nothing to bring more fans to the next home game.

I applaud your passion and commitment mate, but I’m pretty sure on the 28th I have a prior commitment that involves gauging out my own eyeballs.

We do not have a midfield that is capable of controlling the game. Niz and Max could take a game by the scruff of the neck. We can't do that anymore and our options other than Steele or Alfie are limited
