WHERE was andre, that crucial midfield spark, when i saw his name on the BENCH i got more excited than when he starts, such an amazing impact player, what a shame LM didnt play that card, first 15 was great, then snore material right up until around the 55th minute and for some f*** known reason we got early season form and confidence back, question has to be asked where the f*** was it the last 300 or so minutes of football, simons bringing back his best.
dmac would be great if he didnt walk like dukes.

vukos again unlucky let down by his back four, great effort all things considered, sasho and caceres did a top effort as bench warmers, i even give disco the MOM for having a dig and pulling the F***ing trigger a few times.

THOUGH i have faith from the last 35 mins or so that we COULD pull out some good performances
in ACL, and for the record i am behind Mckinna he just needs to kick out his bed buddies. simple fact is we were beaten by the depth of the Roar squad, with three 1st eleven players out, they can still run us reckless

i hope for a AU vs QR final ( i dont want to see those pricks allsopp and musc**t in the GF)

I've never been more frustrated watching a mariners game than the first half.

Back four regain possession, hoof upfield, straight to a Qld player and get counter attacked. There were 2 or 3 moments in the first half where we strung 3 to 4 passes together and looked magic, yet the very next play we go back to hoof and hope.

The changes in the 2nd half changed some of that and Adrian looked lively. We adjusted our game to suit Sash and Nik, who prefer the ball at their feet rather than at their head, Matty and Dyl style. I was pleased to see Nik actually shoot for goal, 1 out of 4 doing what they are best at. But a the end of the day it was all too late.

Don't think it will take more than 2-3 signing and we will be right up there.
A coach with some fresh ideas to replace Fergie is absolutely vital, we really_really miss him.

I cant see Adelaide turning over the mexicans in the 2nd leg, which means the prem final next weekend should be a cracking game to watch

I do. Melbourne will probably get a far bigger crowd. Both teams are in form. It would be good for the league. I also think The Presets should play in stead of 1200 techniques or the Pot Belliez. I would want QLD to win though - couldn't stand seeing Thompson carry on with this kick boxing antics and what not.

I wouldn't be blaming the strikers for not being able to score. Pretty hard when you need to come back to half way to get the ball. When the were receiving it around the box at the end of the game, they were creating good chances.

I also wouldn't blame the back - while they didn't do extremely well, they were constantly under pressure because we couldn't hold possession. (66% to QLD at one stage).

I think the problem is the midfield. There was very little movement off the ball. A lot of strolling and ball watching... then the play slows down, QLD get back, we lose options and pass it backwards or play a panic ball to the opposition. Then when the ball got pushed up forward, the midfield wasn't following up the strikers. Dylan or Matt would get the ball with no one running off them, the ball would be loose between half way and the box, and midfield was hanging at half way waiting for QLD to get the ball and run at them.

Then there were the stupid free kicks we were giving away.

Then there was our approach to the game. Holding off for the first 60 minutes before throwing everything at them? WTF? This is what the commentators said was Lawrie's plan, and Wilko pretty much confirmed it by saying they would hope to win it in the final 20 minutes. I didn't see Japan do that when they only had to win 1-0 and not 2 or 3-0. We left it until we were 2-0 down and had to win 4-2 before we started attacking - and we looked good. Doing that from the word go would have allowed us to iron out the shit touches and bad finishing.

I don't think flushing the team out or getting a new manager is the solution - but I think we need 2 very good midfielders and a new mentality (more hunger and more faith) and the rest will fit.

:goodpost:

I agree that the midfield is a big problem, although the defence and forwards have not been firing lately either. Danny had a good game tonight.

I couldn't believe it when the commentator said that Osman was outstanding tonight. It looked to me that most of the game he was wandering around looking bored and lost. Ditto O'Grady.

Plenty of effort from Hutcho, but his corners were woeful.

Heff looked strong in patches.

Clarke was ordinary.

Porter ran all night and was OK without being special.

Dills, Disco Nick and Matty huffed and puffed without gelling as a unit.

I'm mystified why Gumps didn't get a run.

Frankly, apart from Danny, no one impressed tonight. In all my years I've never followed a team the lost 5 straight. That is unacceptable. We run the risk of being worse than the Scum. And that fills be with dread.

McKinna has done wonders for the Club, but he is being out-thought by his peers right now.

Time to freshen the squad with some new faces I think. Maybe the AFC Champions League will see that.

I'm used to following a team that loses 5 straight and it STILL doesnt make this end of season any pleasanter or easier to take.

Who coaches them to take corners to the near post when no player makes a run there? Who coaches them to have noone on the back post at set plays?

I don't understand how the forwards can be firing when they have to come back to half way to get the ball, and have no one running off them when they do get it... the midfield were not giving the service or support. When they did, which was in the last 15 or so, the strikers were getting the ball at the edge of the box and started creating chances. But you can't expect them to gel in 15 minutes when they need to scores goals in such an important game. Had the team been playing like this from the word go instead of holding back, the strikers would have settled and ironed out the edginess.

we can't play good in patches as we did the last half of our season , last nights game the ball spent to much time in the air than on the ground when we were in possesion . it was like watching a res grade game . im dissapointed in the way our season ended but will be there for the ACL . we need to improve 100% on  all aspects of our game if we are to compete with teams in the ACL .
I'd say Keep Lawrie another year.
We need a Marquee playa for 09/10 season or is Kwaka our big buy

I'm at Brisbane airport waiting to catch my flight home. The events of last night are still circulating through my mind unfortunately... what a dire night! Walking out of that stadium trying to rationalize that performance, the tactics, the lack of heart by some of the players whilst having to put up with the taunting from those orange c**ts has made me more pessimistic than usual. What's more, it was f**king raining! lol. The annoying part of the taunting was that it was probably coming from band-wagoners... who have only started supporting the team once they started winning (add cynicism to pessimism... lol).

One thing I want to say is THANK GOD ALMIGHTY FOR MATT SIMON! This kid has heart and was a bright patch in an otherwise gloomy night.

Please don't compare them to reserve grade. My reserve grade team last year hit the flanks fast, split the defense and got in behind them to deliver hard, pin-point crosses to our strikers. Probably about half of our goals came from these plays and we had the most goals in the comp.

.... I didn't see the Mariners doing any of that.
No comparison.

lol.

They probably would be bandwagoners. This is the team who, with a city of 2 million people all to themselves, were drawing only 11-13k for most of their season matches. The Roar have been playing good football over the past month and the NRL hasnt started yet. Compared to the Mariners who have been playing shit football for the past month.

Now if he can just start finding the back of the net again, things will start improving.

Losing Jedi was certainly one of the reasons why we capitulated in the latter half of the season, but I believe the main reason why things went pear shape is the lack of team cohesion. Think about it. When was the last time we had consecutive games with the same faces in defense? All this chop n' changing and rearranging all over the park has completely destroyed the teams cohesion and as a result, it has unsettled their play and affected the teams confidence. We need defenders who play day in and day out every week in their SAME POSITION. Defenders need time to adjust and feel comfortable where they play. I'm not a Man U fan, but one of the reasons why they have been so successful is because they intimately know their position and role in the team. A classic example is the defensive partnership between Vidic and Ferdinand. Can you imagine if Vidic was plucked out of CD and put in at RB and if Ferdinand was reshuffled to play DM???? Well, now your starting to understand why the Mariners collapsed in the back half of the season.

I agree, losing Jedi has affected the whole balance of the side imo, and they never found a solution. The midfield's demise put pressure on the defense and just about every attacking player in the side has been in poor form for about 6 weeks.

It's obvious we have been in poor form but by the same token we should perhaps acknowledge just how good QLD have become. For me, how they look right now, they are the best team I have seen in the HAL thus far.
