Mariners v Melbourne Rd 5

Still no thread started about the game, so here we go.

This will be a tough game, I tipped Melbourne for Premiers so obviously feel they're strong across the park, going a man down last week they showed their strength and did what Championship challengers do, grinded out a result!

Melbourne's defence is very strong this year, do we have 2 goals in us against them? I think we'll need 2 as I can't see them not scoring after having sky high confidence.

I think we've dominated the midfield in our last 2 games and we'll need to do the same again if we're to get anything from the tards.

------------Bosnich
Clark----Wilko----Boogs----Bojic
Porter---Jedi----Hutch----Caceres
--------Sasho--Macca

Bench - Nash, Simon, Osman and take your pick from the rest

I think Porter did enough to keep a starting 11 spot over Osman, hopefully Caceres will be fully fit and back on the left.  I'd also start Macca over Simon if fully fit, Sash has to start IMO as he's a goal poacher, where as the other 2 are workers or target men, Sash compliments the other striker well.

Our central defenders can be slow, Archies pace could kill us (it wouldn't be the first time) so Mile has a big job!  Tards will probably revert back to 2 up front given that Fabiano is facing 6 weeks in the stands, but Hernandez will sit just behind them.

I'll hold off on a prediction until I see the squad

I'd be pretty surprised if we didn't win this.

McKinna is the last A-League coach that has persisted with playing a high line of defence against arguably the two fastest & mobile strikers in the league (possibly less arguable this season with most teams recruiting well). Not smart.

Lopez will be back to anchor the midfield. Thwaite will be back to slot into defence. I'm not sure where ward is at, but I wouldn't be surprised to see Pondy get a run off the bench.

Possible formation (likely starting 11).

--------------Theo---------------
---Thwaite---Musky--Vargas------
-Kemp-------------------Berger---
-------Lopez------Celeski---------
----------Hernandez--------------
--Archie---------------Allsopp----

Bench: Langerak, Elasi, Pondeljak, Broxham/Ryall

I'm really looking forward to seeing Bozza & McAllister play live, and rate them highly. I hope Caceres is found out as the sulk that he is quite soon, and tip that he will go missing against his old club.

Bozza will keep you in the game, but we'll have the slight edge. Melbourne to win 2-1.

how about moving Porter into the middle, and bringing ossie in - and relegating hutch to the bench?

I dont expect any surprises or tactical innovation from us (shock horror) so last weeks line up with Mrdja II and Caceres to come in if fit.

Has to be macca to start with petrovski. Mile will need a big game. Can see us winning this one with a full compliment. But it wont be with melbourne scoreless

I recon 1-0 to the tards, if we dominate in the mid again might pull a draw 1-1 but i think we will be in for a close game... woot :)

This game worries me, Melbourne are the form team and we always struggle at home against Melbourne. I agree that if we win we would have to score 2 or 3 as Melbourne will at least score 1.

A lot comes down to the Mid in this game, we need to not only hold the mid but provide drive out of it. Mile v Hernandez is the big battle

Am looking forward to my first home game for the season and will be happy if we finish with a draw; ecstatic with a win.
