De Silva Melbourne City move imminent
https://theworldgame.sbs.com.au/de-silva-melbourne-city-move-imminent

Melbourne City are on the cusp of their first major coup of the off-season, winning the battle to bring boom youngster to Danny De Silva to the club.

The 21-year old had been mulling over offers from several other clubs, most notably Brisbane Roar, who he is rumoured to have visited last month.

However, it is understood that City were able to offer the best financial terms and have promised to provide a pathway back into Europe. The deal is expected to be concluded later this week.

It is unclear whether he will sign with Melbourne City or parent club Manchester City and be subsequently loaned back, as was the case with Anthony Caceres and Luke Brattan.

Excitingly for City fans, the arrival of De Silva would see him link up with the nation’s brightest teenage prospect, the World Cup-bound Daniel Arzani.

De Silva was technically under contract at the Central Coast Mariners until the end of the 2019-20 season but had a clause inserted in his deal that allowed him to gain an immediate release if previous coach Paul Okon left the club.

With Okon sacked before the end of the season, De Silva openly began looking for a new club, not wanting to stay with the Mariners after they finished bottom of the table.

The 21-year old spent two seasons in the Netherlands with Eredivisie club Roda JC but was never able to regularly break into the first team, playing only 16 matches for the club, triggering his move back to Australia in search of more game time.

De Silva enjoyed his best season as a professional in 2017-18, playing 20 games and scoring three goals as he thrived on the extra responsibility. He won both the "Men of Football Damien Brown Medal" and the "Central Coast Mariners Official Supporters Club Player of the Year Award".

“He thrived” :piralaugh:

That’s not a major coup for melbourne city ........... it is a major coup for dds.

He is living on past reputation and needs to get his head out of his derriere and start to put some meat on it’s bones. Danger for arzani if he drags him down to his head level.

The continual purchasing of players by Manchester City & subsequent loan to Melbourne City places all other A League clubs at a disadvantage.
The FFA knows it`s a loophole but has done nothing to to close it.
With talks in progress (over A League clubs loaning players to each other, to allow better players to get more game time), I think it should be raised that players loaned by overseas clubs to A League clubs, should be classed as an import & subsequently they should take a visa spot.
This should be irrespective of whether they are Australian or not.

Thought DDS was gonna become a very good asset for this club but other than the first 5 games of last season, he produced very little. Gets $150,000 off our books to use on someone who actually wants to be here.

Would take Franjic at RB in a heartbeat.

DDS is leaving a sour taste in so many peoples mouths (not that he’d care)
Said it before, he’ll turn into another Troisi only less intl caps.. chasing a pay cheque constantly.
Totally agree that he’s already living off his “wonderboy” rep which is so cringe it’s ridiculous.

So much excitement when he signed on, he can only blame his own performances for what’s happened.
If he doesn’t lose the horrendous attitude City will be his last chance to make good on his quickly deteriorating promise, before he’s playing lower leagues in Asia or the arse end of Europe.

Franjic rejected a new deal at Brisbane so presumably is after more money and/or an overseas gig. Can’t see it happening unfortunately.

I’d have liked to have seen DDS here for another season, but to be honest the whole saga has pissed me off, so he can f**k right off, little pea-heart.

Dds started out on the money but his efforts soon changed. I wonder if it was about the same time okon was starting to lose the changeroom and his efforts reflected his reluctance to put in with the rest of the team. Whatever .......... he showed a selfish attitude by not putting out at his best for the team and city are welcome to him and his attitude.

I think city and hard arsed joyce are really the only club that can do anything with him............ a season to get his head back together and remember that it is not all about him, a season to get over arzani being the stud junior and then his maturing into a senior player ...........

He left for China a superstar (that game against Wellington away was one of the best in a Mariners' shirt) and came back a busted arse. I wonder what happened over there and who got in his ear? His attitude was far different on return.

Danny good luck. YOU GOT NOTHING .next

He’s got something ??? ............ he just thinks he has a lot more than what he actually has ........... and doesn’t allow for the defense to negate his tricks. He needs to go have a long talk with his mother.

To be honest, had we kept DDS I think he wouldn't have had a consistent year or a definitive impact for us anyway.
He does need to mature as a player both physically and mentally and it will take at least another year to get there.

So really, apart from a few sparks of magic, we probably would have just nurtured him while he matured then he would have gone off to have an actual impact somewhere else. We now have $150k up the sleeve to use on a more seasoned player

You lot are like a spurned ex Mrs. DDS was our best until he went to that stupid Asian comp. He did his bit and was in an utterly garbage team after about round 14 when we should have pumped MVC.
You couldn't possibly expect him to own the game and the team when no-one else did.
He's moving on which should have been decided weeks ago by either party.
Put your knives away, grow up and get on with it.

Will be interesting to see if we target another 10 or use an existing player. Tommy H maybe, or Matty as a false 10 behind a gun striker.

Sorry ....... no ......... not sure if I am included in “you lot” ............ but just in case. After I worked out that the reference wasn’t “ex mrs. dds” but in fact “ex mrs. “ ........ “ Dds new sentence.
Dds was never THE best, but he did his part well when the team was functioning as a team............ until the love was lost. Okon didn’t do him any favours and I certainly didn’t see him as ever being an owner of the team that included baro, golec, brama and most of all tom.
His move to city will either make or break him ........... the switch from okon to joyce will be a shock for him but joyce has the experience to handle misguided football prodigies so I am happy with his switch.

Tommy H owns his spot and it would not be of the teams interest to move him.
“Matty” as a false 10 would negate his strongest asset of chasing long balls and back passes like a blue heeler chases tennis balls on the beach ........... and getting offside whenever.
