The way I see it is, we have to start planning for next season. This one has gone down the toilet already.

With McCormack out for a long stint, he's at best going to be fit for the 2nd half of the season. We haven't been able to build a team around him and there's no point to do so now.

With broken players mended and coming into the starting line up soon, we should aim to rebuild with them being with us next season. That includes blooding youngsters.

So Macca out for at least 5 weeks ....
If so, my advice to Mike Mulvey (knowing Charlesworth)
- I'd go this guy ......

..... Liam Boland.

Personally, after watching McCormack's 'apathetic performances' of his last 4 games (I'm NOT buying the 'lack of service' talk- he just DOES NOT look interested at getting stuck in)
... I've been seriously contemplating that perhaps a player like Boland would be worth a 'rest of season' contract to provide a possible turn around of our woes.

The Victorian NPL is unarguably the strongest League in this country outside of the HAL, and 'Golden Boot' winner Boland just netted 22 goals across all competitions for Avondale FC this season just gone.

Boland's fellow AFC team mate, Kaine Sheppard, just managed his first A-League goal in his starting debut yesterday for The Scum .... who took a punt on him for 18/19 season .... (he scored only 3 goals in 16 games for AFC last season)

.... & who can forget how Boland 'ripped it up' for Green Gully FC in the seasons prior to his move to Avondale

...especially against CCM in the FFA Cup (3:17sec) for those that need reminding
....soz  folks.

Charlesworth, as history shows, will be highly reluctant to spend in the Jan X-fer window, especially knowing we are already down on revenue with lower crowds.
- 7 straight defeats will only excabate this ca$h-flow over Xmas/NYE.

A large expenditure on a player, even if 'that player' has an effect on the win column, is still unlikely to spin the turnstiles considerably to justify the spend.

Soooo, at 26 yo & thinking his A-League dream is slipping away, sign Liam Boland who will be as hungry as Millar !!
- injury replacement or bite the bullet & go a 'straight out rest of season' deal.

- Min. wage with bonuses for 'games-played' & 'goals scored' structured into his deal.

- but FFS ... structure the contract that once 'x-games' are played' a clause 'automatically' enables CCM the right to have him commit to a 12mnth deal for next season .... at CCM's discretion/option.
(can't have SFC/City swoop on him ;) if he does do well for us)

I thought that was an everton player and in that vein don't we have a loan agreement with them? Surely there's some young bloke we could borrow.

My biggest concern with that would be Murray not getting as much time as he could once he's back. We'll potentially have Gameiro and Murray back and still probably start Simon. Surely there's a good play maker in the NPL we could look at bringing in as a replacement?

Avondale FC badge right there on his chest .... Victorian NPL on the otherside.

Everton Youth (as has been prev discussed) 'has' & 'will' always be pie-in-the-sky stuff, due to:
- FIFA rules and
- Australian Visa issues.

Back Aussie players ..... we can sell them !
:tophat: .......

To be fair we haven't seen what Cisse can do as DM. Think we are missing a presence there that no one in the squad can currently fill. With Aspro back we have 3 or 4 CB's that can do a job.
Fair enough but it’s more chopping and changing but can’t argue with your reasoning

First thing we should all give consideration to is:
- Who's to say that Simo is going to maintain his starting spot up front for the enteriety of the remaining 2/3rd's of the season ???

As to Muzza, for mine, if fit enough to play ... he starts at Wide Right
- fcuk Hoole, & fcuk moving Pain over there if Oar pushes Pain from Wide Left (which I highly doubt based on Pains recent games)

& therein lies in the above point, but just one of the multitude of mistakes that Mulvey's making with this squad.
- "NOT playing the BEST players in their BEST POSITIONS that would bring about a MASSIVE increase in performance"

IE:
When Oar is fit ... Mulvey will tinker again with either:
- moving Pain to the RHS or
- stupidly play Oar over there (like he has during the game/swapping for periods)

When what Mulvey should be doing is making Oar battle it out with Pain for that Left side position ... NO if's or but's !!!

Whomever PERFORMS better gets the starting spot, it's that fcukn simple Mike !

Likewise with the RHS.
- Murray will have to battle it out with Millar (if we stay with a back 3 otherwise Millar automatically owns RB in back 4 based on PERFORMANCE)

We can only go off the decisions made so far where there's been an irrational love affair with going long to Simon and playing Murray out of position or for limited minutes.

Whomever PERFORMS better gets the starting spot, it's that fcukn simple Mike !

I disagree with that, we don't have the pool to leave both on the bench if they are performing well enough to be in our top 5 or 6 players. Especially if we're giving one of those few attacking spots to Simon. I'm not trying to put the bloke down or dwell on him but it feels like we're trying to build a puzzle with a piece from the wrong set in the middle. Ross is potentially problematic as well but has a heap of potential so is worth persevering with.

Murray will have to battle it out with Millar (if we stay with a back 3 otherwise Millar automatically owns RB in back 4 based on PERFORMANCE)

Well Murray is a striker so that shouldn't be a contest. You can't talk about the problems of playing someone out of position and then consider putting him there. Why recruit an NPL top scorer and not give them minutes in front of the goal? It doesn't make sense.

What happened to MacDonald? He's a striker yeah?
More of a winger than a striker. He played 90 mins for youth yesterday.

In regards to Jordan Murray, he’s a proven goal scorer playing striker. I don’t see much point signing an injury replacement when he will be back in 1-2 weeks and hasn’t had a chance to prove himself up top.

Mariners love signing young strikers and putting them on the wing and not giving them a chance up top. We did the same with a Trent last year and as soon as he went to Sydney and played striker he scored for fun (albeit in the ffa Cup). Definitely need to start Murray up top before considering signing more strikers.

As for Gameiro, I think it was dumb signing him in the first place.

Considering the number of reco's he's had and failed to even get on the park for Brisbane consistently last season;
- 18 games / 0 goals
- only 2 starts out of those 18 games
- for a Total of 441min. ÷ 90min
= 4.5 games Total playing time for 2017/18 Season ..... pretty poor considering he was playing for Aloisi, the patron Saint of Busted Stikers.

He actually played more minutes in less games in the Seasons before last BUT still NO goals in the column :

Screenshot_2018-12-10-13-57-10-1.png

- His best stat this year has been putting one into the back of Lucy Zelic's net. ;)

As for him coming into the side ahead of Simo or Muzza ??
- Mulvey should be pushing him hard at training because you need him to be 'going hard' during games .... even off of the bench.

Despite Muzza's ankle tweak he is incredibly match fit, first & foremost Gameiro needs to match this output on the pitch.

Otherwise why play him ???

I think we all knew Gameiro was a gamble, as for him v Simon I'd suggest playing off the bench for a dominant Sydney side can be flattering and playing for last year's roar is much less so. I don't know which is better but neither appears a clear answer to our obvious goal scoring issues and that was the cause of a lot of pessimism prior to the Ross announcement.

Edit: Based on the above expect a big $ offer for Diawara in the off season :(

In the NPL. BIG difference
... not a single NPL striker has arrived and set the HAL on fire ;)

Whereas Muzza has proven himself with us starting from pre-season till now at wide right BUT what Mulvey is fcuking up is having the front 3 play too wide.

With Millar lighting it up down that right touch-line, getting to the byline .... Murray or whoever playing front-line Right SHOULD be 'tucking- in', playing narrower and allowing Millar to get outside of them - linking up outside the 18yrd box for 1-2's, cut-backs & ultimately allowing Murray (or whomever) to have more shots on goals in & around that area.

I don’t see much point signing an injury replacement when he will be back in 1-2 weeks and hasn’t had a chance to prove himself up top.

My sources strongly had McCormack leaving in Jan window :
- AV looking to make some $$$'s off of him before deal expires.
- despite being split up from his Missus, not seeing kids for 2nd Xmas in Aus. a major factor.

Plus McCormack NOW injured .... so Mulvey should be seriously looking for an alternative front 3rd player as back up EVEN if just for an injury replacement contract.

What if Gameiro breaks down again ??

I take you point.
.... but either way :
- I repeat the above point of mine.

Rudan signed Ante Covic for just one game injury replacement cover !
- Why ? ..... for the what if's !!
Gameiro's done his ACL x3 times, why not have a contingency plan mindset like Rudan ??

We need depth in our squad if were to get ourselves out this hole NOT just leaving a spot in the squad open (McCormack injured/gone) because we think Murray could play as a central striker.

Adelaide are looking to sign Bobo from under SydFC's noses to replace a continually injured Diawara.

Can't see BIG $$$'s going his way.

I'm sick of signing injured players, just saying

They didnt have a backup keeper that could play. Unless you expected one of the outfield players to grab the gloves if the keeper was hurt?

If that happens we need a solid replacement. We're already paying good money for him and should be able to get some quality to replace him.

It was a joke based on our form with signing injured or under performing players. And I don't think it's really from under Sydney since they've got Le Fondre now. Can't see how Bobo could fit there.

No, they did.
It's just Rudan wisely chose to go with a more experienced & safer option of signing Covic as an injury replacement instead of having Youth Keeper, Zac Jones on the bench
...... for the what if ??

As I said, the point is about Mulvey making smart/er decisions with this squad and having a likewise 'contigency' for McCormack. ;)

CCM aren't going to be able to replace Ross with a similar calibre player with the piddly $$$'s we're paying in the loan deal, Villa are covering the majority of his wage hoping he'll increase (cough: maintain:rolleyes:) some value whilst with us.
