Tommy Oar jets in to sign for Central Coast Mariners

Socceroos winger Tommy Oar will arrive in Sydney tonight with his move to Central Coast Mariners set to be completed imminently.

The 26-year-old has been without a club since terminating his contract with Cypriot side APOEL Nicosia earlier this month.

Oar's signing is part of an aggressive off-season in the player market from the Gosford club, which includes the trial of Olympic champion Usain Bolt and the rumoured acquistion of former Melbourne City striker Ross McCormack.

It will be Oar's third stint in the A-League after bursting on to the scene with Brisbane Roar as a teenager in 2008 and also returning to Suncorp Stadium during the the 2016-17 campaign.

Capped 28 times for the green and gold, Oar's most famous moment came in 2013 when he scored from a mis-hit cross against Japan in Saitama - a goal which helped Australia secure a crucial draw on their path to World Cup qualification.

He spent five relatively successful seasons at Dutch Eredivisie club Utrecht from 2010-15 before an ill-fated move to Championship side Ipswich saw him frozen out after only six matches.

Oar will be in line to make his Mariners debut against his old team Brisbane Roar at Suncorp Stadium on October 21.

Found it interesting tonight that a lot of the blokes on the hill in the bar area were anti-Mariners and anti-Matty Simon. Still a lot to be done in regards to mending the relationship between the club and CCF and the club and the CCU fans disengaged with the Mariners.

Just drunken f**kwits. Dumb as dog shit when it comes to Football but just there to support their mates who were completely outclassed.
They are good fun but please don't mistake them for
1. Football people.
2. Mariners fans
3. Serious Football fans.

I sat with a few CCU fans and family tonight and they know less about Football than Ben Buckley. Just there to see their kids. Their knowledge of the game was horrendous.

Not surprising at all tbh Josh, there are some folks who wear their grudges like a badge of honour, rather than getting behind our only professional team as well as the local sides. It’s football and we should all stand united as supporters of the game on the Coast, rather than showing division.

I get there are are historical issues for some but given that CCF and CCM seem to be building bridges to mend their relationship, surely those disenfranchised fans ought to be able to do similarly?

I think that's easier said than done. I believe the relationship between CCF and CCM was in the gutter for 4-5 years until very recently. I have heard the relationship between them is getting better but those grudges from local players will seemingly remain.

The only CCU player anywhere near the required standard is McFarlane.
The rest are willing but no where near.

What are they bearing a grudge about???

I wished I could have been a professional footballer and a professional fighter (worked for Vinnie Jones) but I wasn't good enough to make the grade at either.

Why would I be angry at someone else that I wasn't good enough......seams like some dickheads need a good look in the mirror.

I always thought that Big Vinnie made a decent career for himself by combining the two.....;)

Steady on bud. This really needn’t be an “us and them” type thing. CCU lads certainly aren’t making it that. A lot of the CCU guys I’m associated with are actually incredibly intelligent when it comes to football, a number of them are also ccm fans, a number of them also are not ccm fans - and we are all certainly serious football fans.
And yeah, a number of us are drunken f**kwits and that’s probably the nicest thing I’ve been called all week

I tell you Pete I was embarrassed by this bogan talking to his son about CCU and he thought Simon was just there to face CCU. His son said didn't he used to play for the Sydney Jets?
The average CCU fan ain't very clued up is all I will say.

On the other side I met this lovely family just there to cheer on their son who got 10 mins....nice peeps.

Yeah you’re gonna get those sort of people who clearly don’t have an interest in the mariners but football in Australia in general. That’d be the minority though, not the ‘average CCU fan’.
It’s been great fun supporting and getting around those lads this season, obviously with the climax being on Saturday at the geefa (and of course pre and post game celebrations!)
I’ll admit, I was sceptical when it started but I’m definitely a rusted on CCU fan now. Which doesn’t take anything away from my love for the mariners. A number of the guys in the graveyard will still come to ccm games, some are rusted on supporters and a lot are not but will still turn up. There isn’t as big a bridge to gap as we think there is.

Those boys are a crack up.
I was on the other side.
The CCU peeps on my side could have shared their knowledge of Football on the back of a stamp with Moss and Okon.

Hahahahahahaha. Fair play. Gonna get those type of fools at any game unfortunately.
Oh yes it is great fun in the graveyard. We hired a party bus decked out with ‘dance’ poles, karaoke, neon lights etc for the geefa at the weekend. Every game is a party hahaha.

The anticipation for me is somebody else to effectively take the cnrs............... for most teams a cnr was a source of an attacking threat ......... for ccm fans last season it was a major source of disappointment and frustration.............. that didn’t get corrected ????.
Clisby may have a claim as well.
