So therefore, we have to increase our spending to "get close" to the other clubs in the League?

If you look at the top clubs MC,MV,SFC,BR.
The salary cap is $2.6m + 3 Marquees say (conservatively) $2m, then add home grown player allowance of $150k, then add loyalty allowance (5yr of more service) another $200k per player say 2 per team = $5.15m budget
CCM salary cap is $2.6m. we spend the floor rate of $2.275m (reportedly)
Therefore, we spend $2.875m less than the others at present.

If the clubs are given, say $10m each from the TV deal, & each spend an additional $5m on players then we`re still $2.875 m less than the others.

Which means that even though we`ll have better quality players the top teams will have still be above us in quality.

It doesn`t matter where the money comes from ie. other revenue streams. FFA etc. to consistently compete we have to be spending a similar amount to the top teams.

So, (as I said before) to rise up the ladder, we need to increase our spending...
Hey Style there was an interesting article in yesterday's daily telegraph called City splashing the cash. Unfortunately it's behind a pay wall and I've thrown the actual paper out but this is the gist and what I remember.
City total spend is above $9m for the season.

Marquees- $5.5m
Timmy $4m he is on a heavily front loaded contract to get him under the cap next year.
Fornaroli $1m
Carloza $500,000

Rest of squad cap $2.9m

Then there was $650,000 for something think it was sports science type stuff can't remember but was more cost of the players than direct cost of a player.

Saying it's the highest spend ever, out doing SFC and ADP.

They spent just under on Marquees, what we spent on our whole squad.

Looking at our squad overall I'm worried about our quality compared to the other 9 clubs.

I challenge you to name 2 Mariners players that would be first choice 11 players for any of the 9 other clubs. The only player I would consider at the moment would be Fabio, and he's been out injured!

Now I know we can't compete financially but we need to be more competitive because if we don't fix it soon I can see us being down the bottom for the next 2-3 seasons at least!

Agree. The teamsheets yesterday showed a gulf between us. At least 6 players short of what the roar had in the starting 11. But the game did not show that. That's encouraging.

I believe we are 2 quality midfielders short of being over 50% in the wins column. Throw in an experienced, ball playing CB and who knows.

It has always bothered me that having a marquee gets you a double benefit in a salary capped league, your average minimum wage is raised which means you are in a better position to offer decent salaries to the already stretched thin Min wage worthy talent out there.
