I wouldn't bet on that, unless we pay him in chemicals.

He was never committed to anything beyond self interest... He's the original primadonna player - rarely showing up for training and when he did he'd be late, double parked and ignoring the coach's directions.
Definitely not the kind of player you want in the team anyway ;-)

Rumour of a Mitch Austin and Danny Vukovic swap between Mariners and Victory.

Hardly surprising but FFS! Swapping off one of the few highlights of this season - Fletcher better f*****g get fit if this is where we go...

Will we really miss Austin? Bit of a sicknote and the ability to run very fast in straight lines will only take you so far.

I'd stick my neck out and suggest that we wouldnt have got the spoon with Danny as keeper.

Would have been close though

I think it's a win for us. For them it's probably also a win; he's Danny Alsopp for a new generation.

I'd be very happy with that swap. Austin has been exciting at times but Danny would make a massive difference to us and also bring back some old fans...he was one of our most popular players. I think Fletcher will turn out to be a better player anyway next season.

5 goals and 2 assists not a bad return for debut season and was a bright note when there was little to cheer about.
All 5 goals were with the left foot and 3 of them were on the break where his speed was the telling factor.
22 starts and was subbed off in 15 of them.
117 crosses, only 29 successful.
His speed is his greatest attribute, other than that he is one footed, technically average and incapable of running for 90 minutes.
At 25 years old not sure how much more he can develop but MV could probably use him to greater effect off the bench.
Having both Austin and Fabio in the midfield really threw the balance of the side out as neither liked to track back much.
We need a quality keeper like Danny more than we need Austin, astute piece of business from TW if it comes off.

I honestly don't know... I see a bit more in him that the straight lines thing - I do take your point though that whether Vuk's what he was or not, he's a better keeper than basically anything we have in stock currently.
I do agree as well, that Fletcher has better potential, if he's fit, and he does seem to have made significant progress this season - I suppose I'm just a bit frustrated because he's still an unknown and because it feels like we're currently shipping a whole lot of players Melbourne-way and I hate it when ex-players score against us...

You can structure the side to eliminate the ball in behind, and then if you press on his first touch, Austin's not scoring for anyone.

Agree, it looks like Victory will be losing a lot of key players and will be having a pretty big rebuilding. They have a decent keeper in Thomas and i think Danny and family want a return to the Sydney/Coast area. We definately would be the big winner in this IMO, Danny is still one of the best A league keepers and relatively young for a keeper. I have really enjoyed Mitch this season but don't think he helps the balance of the squad.

I felt in the second half of the season other teams work Austin out and nullified his speed advantages. I think its a good swap.

Cant wait for next season when we're in front to once again sing "Danny, Danny whats the score. Danny whats the score" and know full well of a good response form Danny.

I think this is a win for us if it happens.

Not completely sure about the swap but can't see Mitch developing too much more. Is definitely an impact player off the bench but can't see him being more than that in the A-League. If we can get Danny Vukovic to agree to the same deal that Mitch had then we've done some good business.

Would make room for Trent, who is faster, better ball control and tracks back.

Sorry to see him go however if he is as reported above not turning up for training and carrying on like a pork pie then he needs Muskie to put him in his place.

As good solid keeper but thats all these days ... better than anything we have ..

If Austin and Kalik go and Vukovic comes in, our best team (based on players we actually have) for round 1 looks something like this:

Vukovic
Posco* - Faty - Ascroft - Neill
Tavares
Monty - L.Rose
Ferreira -------------- J.Rose
O'Donovan

Bench:
Izzo
McGing
McDonald
Fletcher

I think that has a much better defensive balance straight away. Add Wilko and we look close to done.

Needs some depth, but I don't think we're going to get it. It's a squad that can get shuffled though to make sure the depth we do have can work for us. There are quite a few players in there capable of playing multiple roles.

Next year, if we're looking down the barrel of some injuries and whatnot, we'll be glad of having blooded the likes of McGing, Buhagiar, etc. I think they'll be much more formidable players in a side that is better than half-done.

Now the job is Walmsley's to get their heads right to win matches.

I enjoyed Austin's speed and excitement on the ball, however he was always slow to get back in defence, took forever to recover from a run and was very fragile.
I think it would be an interesting move for him, Victory will either toughen him up or break him.
I would love to see Danny back in goals. He can make the odd mistake but he will own the penalty area.

Oh no, wait! If that bit about the training was referring to my post, that was Maradona, not Mitch... An easy mistake to make, but still - wouldn't want to cast aspersions ;)
