in the second of the Canberra matches Walmsley played with 2 up front. Could have just been for the trial, could be a look at things to come, or could be an alternative when we need to switch tactics.
With an attack-minded agenda another striker is still needed - here's hoping for McAleny still

Said player ticked all the 'over' boxes even before we signed him:
  • Over-rated when in the J-League
  • Over-hyped about "should be in the Socceroo's"
  • Over-hyped again when rumored to return to Oz
  • Over-paid by CCM
Has 'Under-Performed' imo considering his over-payment & all his other "Over's".

Leads me to conclude one last 'over',
  • 'Over'- the - hill !!!

@samdjodan: @stephenjbolger movement expected with the Everton deal late next week. Whether or not it'll be McAleny hasn't been confirmed

According to transfermarkt... the breakdown of the value of the roster for CCM arrivals/departures for this season is as follows. Arrivals valued at 575thousand euro, departures valued at 1.78million euro.

Presuming we now have Heffernan signed and have McAleny coming (he can also play 10 if Cac doesn't progress) then we probably only need a dominant CB. This gives us an exciting squad.
Jade North would be a good option but I'm sure there must be a few other players of his calibre available.

Just had look at our squad on the Mariners site ... Fitzy will be lucky to get much game time this year and just maybe that shows how the squad is stronger this year than last season...

Agree middy, think we are stronger this year for sure. If we get McAleny, Heffernan and another CB i will be happy. Will be lots of competition for places....could be way out i'm thinking of a starting side of -

....................................Reddy.................................
....Storm........McGing.........Ascroft..........Neill......
....................................Monty................................
.....Fabio.......Caceres.........McAleny...........Rosey
....................................Roy.......................................

Bench of -Izzo, Posco, Fitz, Heff,Rose.

That leaves people like Kalick, Austin,Boz,Trifiro not even on the bench. Some tough decisions.

Dont rate Jade North, never have.

I think back to when he was last playing for the Socceroo's and for the life of me couldnt figure out how he made the team & at the same time a guy like Alex Wilkinson couldn't get a look in.

Wind the clock forward & Wilko is currently the starting CB for Aust. then Ange makes a decision on his partner by seeing who's available/not injured/has form.

We need QUALITY !Let's not wind the clock back with Jade North at my beloved Mariners, pleeeeez!

I don't think your right with wilko there. Sainsbury and Spiranovic are locked in starting cbs for aus and if either are injured then others get a look in.

That is a strong starting 11 LP.

For me Neill hasn't done enough to dislodge Rosey at LB just yet.

Also Rosey wouldn't get a start at LM in front of Austin or Fitzy at this stage.

I still believe with an available strike force of Paddy, Heff2 and The Scouser we should be playing 442 or 433.

451 or 4141 was a set up we used because we didn't have much talent or cutting edge.

Heard it last night as a 'maybe' @ the end of the FFACup coverage on Fox with a 'stay tuned' ....... then they finished with no-update.

Nothing in the media today, but sounds likely.

I think Neill would have played LB all last season if he hadn't got injured. Top talent if he stays fit...by all accounts is going great guns at training. Rosey has played a bit in pre-season at LM and is good going forward and can score. Will be interesting to see what Austin can do.

Just my observation we seem to be developing a squad with pace mixed with skill.

What formation we use will be interesting.

Also the old saying that the whole is greater than the sum of it's parts spings to mind.

Looking forward to the season ahead.

I just hope we can attack successfully this season, with some urgency, and actually hit the target! Would much rather that we won most games 5-4 than winning all games 1-0. Ah well, I can only dream!
