Mariners squad HAL 10 ~ 2014/15

Maybe - but we have 20 signed for next year and need a second keeper, Bosnar or another CB and a top quality striker.

If we actually go to 26 with 3 youngsters outside the cap and squad size then I can see Sim coming in as left sided cover, Trifro as midfield cover and Matty as an extra striker.
Re-sign bernie:rolleyes:

This will come back to bite us on the arse big time. I can only assume this decision is based on $$$. One of the nicest blokes in Aussie football and with talent to burn and we couldn't find a way to keep him. Bummer.
I'm with you....I thought that Flores was the piece of the jigsaw we had been missing.....his close ball skill was better than anyone else in the team and he struck up a great understanding with Wee Mac. I just don't see the other signings as coming anywhere close, including Kim. But...we can only keep who/what we can afford and unless Flores was willing to take a huge paycut I can understand why we would have to let him go. But...bummer all the same.

What's interesting is that Kim and Trifiro are only signed until the end of May - is Moss suggesting that we'll pick them up?

I think Mossy is going for the long and wrong approach as opposed to the short and caught. It is far easier to whittle down a squad of 26 or so than to replace almost all the GF side.
And I do like the thought that we will have a relatively settled squad for next year.

Aye, especially with how well we are playing at the moment. As much consistency in the squad as possible will be good.

One big thing that we can't help and will definitely hurt us is the loss of Bernie. He is just getting better and better, no chance Shanghai East Asia are gonna let him leave, especially if what the commentator for the last ACL stream I had said is true, "the most expensive under 23 player in Asia" apparently.

All our decisions are based on dollars...

. and i think mossy is only playing the hand he has been dealt. in other words he has been told we can't afford to keep flores

. i honestly don't know whether it was mossy's decision ... but he will be the one to cop any ... umm ... disappointment. he will not be given the same liberties as arnie was from a recruitment point of view

I also got the feel signing him wasn't an option financially but rather than say "we're too tight arse to sign the crowd favourite as marque" he says the thing about having other players who can play his position.

. yeah but in the process he risks making himself the bad guy ... hopefully it doesn't turn people away - it would seem coasties are a bit fickle with these things

Flores is a great guy - But he just joins the many coming and going through the mariners turn style.

Should we re-sign Bosnar or get another striker with the Flores coin?

Bosnar has been pretty good lately. Good in the air on Sat night. He could go around again I reckon but Griff (with full offseason knowing he would be 1st choice) wouldn't be a bad pairing with Zac with Siep there backup.

Berni is the key - Has turned into a match winner - Will he want to go back to China? Will he want to stay or want to go to europe more like Ryan & Oli in a smaller league that can develop him?

Not re-signing Flores is also showing a big leap of faith in Caceres.
Although he has been used as a DM he actually prefers AM & with more game time will make the transition.
