ccmfans.net is the Central Coast Mariners fan community, and was formed in 2004, so basically the beginning of time for the Mariners. Things have changed a lot over the years, but one thing has remained constant and that is our love of the Mariners. People come and go, some like to post a lot and others just like to read. It's up to you how you participate in the community!

If you want to get rid of this message, simply click on Join Now or head over to https://www.ccmfans.net/community/register/ to join the community! It only takes a few minutes, and joining will let you post your thoughts and opinions on all things Mariners, Football, and whatever else pops into your mind. If posting is not your thing, you can interact in other ways, including voting on polls, and unlock options only available to community members.

ccmfans.net is not only for Mariners fans either. Most of us are bonded by our support for the Mariners, but if you are a fan of another club (except the Scum, come on, we need some standards), feel free to join and get into some banter.

I'm a bit confused with all this WeeMac thing. Do we actually want to keep him or are we just putting up a fight out of principal and will then just let him go once we have shown we won't be taken advantage of ?

I think we want him back ... he will play for a future contract with us or someone else happens all over the world...

We may even sign to latter sell him.... I don't think the club is doing this to save face ...

It's Vernes for McWhingy. Page 62 of this thread has the article where it appears to me it's pretty clear he will come in for McWhingy.

That would require an overseas suitor to buy him. No intra-league transfer fees are permitted.
Yea I know... Thats why they sent him to Japan expecting them to buy him or to at least gain some international interest.. There is no way they are going to willingly let him move freely to another HAL club...

Storm has an Australian passport from what I understand, so doesn't count as foriegn.

For Asian Champions League, it is 3+1 (three foreign and one extra Asian player), but A-League is still 5 foreign players.

Malick Mane (Senegal), Nick Montgomery (Scotland), Kim Seung Yong (Korea), and Richard Vernes (Hungary) or Michael McGlinchey (New Zealand)

I suspect you are correct with the latter statement, which I think is really the only scenario in which we can "win" in this particularly shit situation.

At the end of the day, if we dont put up a fight, we look like pushovers, Phoenix get there man and Weemac is happy
If we do put up a fight and lose, we took a stand but look like whingers, Phoenix get there man and Weemac is happy.
If we put up a fight and win, we took a stand and look good, we then let him go out of spite, Phoenix get there man and Weemac is happy.

Like most people have already stated, no player who doesnt want to be here will play well, goodbye little man.
don't we want some sort of compensation or something

"Nicholas Anthony "Nick" Montgomery (born 28 October 1981) is an English-born Scottish footballer currently playing for Australian side Central Coast Mariners in the A-League. Born in Leeds, England he started his career with Sheffield United where he spent twelve years as a professional, making 399 appearances. Towards the end of his time in England, Montgomery had a short spell on loan with Millwall and had earlier represented Scotland at under-21 level and as part of a Scotland 'Futures' side."

What interests me throughout this saga is why McGlinchey wants to join the Nix. I know he is a Kiwi (cough) and has mates in the All-Whites but why would he want to leave the Mariners? It is not as if the Nix has any great record in the A League. I don't think it is simply for a change of environment. I would like to know if, after Arnie got the boot, anyone from the Mariners contacted McGlinchey to see if he was OK, to ask how he was coping, to even ask if he wanted to come home? I suspect that he was left high and dry, and all alone, and that it was his All White mates who asked him if he was OK.
That being said, if the Mariners win at mediation, what would be the point of keeping a disgruntled player? For me the ideal solution is that we win mediation and then allow McGlinchey to join the Nix; we won't collect a fee but we will have the high moral ground and we can then move on with 'Jules' Vernes joining the Mariners.

. similar to my thoughts ... i have been thinking 'why does he not want to be here? ... there must be a reason'

. that is the biggest concern for me. i still maintain that if he was truly wanted by the mariners (and we could afford him within the cap!) that we would have taken him back straight away, none of this january 1st bullshit

If he was truly wanted by the Mariners why did we let the f**ker go in the first place?

That's the cruel irony of the entire Fiasco. We let him go under contract to give him an opportunity to have a go at the next level, same with Arnie. In return for our kind gesture we now have both of them employed by rivals ready to try and beat the club who gave them an opportunity to get better.
