The wife tells me she grabbed lunch from Oporto today at Erina fair and was served by Liam Reddy. She also spotted Trifiro and Simon around.

If I remember correctly I think Oporto were a game day sponsor for Flores. Hope the boys didnt stuff up too much and they continue their support :p

The initiative of having the players doing normal jobs is a great one and shows how the club can connect with the community when it tries. We can now play 'spot the Mariner' and see who was missing thus giving fuel to the fire of the conspiracy theorists...

Meanwhile, Michael McGlinchey's Phoenix debut has been put on ice, with the All Whites midfielder not featuring in last night's pre-season game against Central League club Wellington Olympic at Petone Memorial Park.

Phoenix coach Ernie Merrick said on Monday that the 27-year-old was set to take the pitch.

But Dome said Merrick had since decided that he was not quite physically ready to play.

He said the decision had nothing to do with the contract dispute surrounding the player - both the Phoenix and A-League rivals Central Coast Mariners claim to hold valid contracts for the Wellington-born playmaker.

"Ernie wants to give him a couple more days and not rush him into contact," Dome said.

"He'll play an intrasquad game later this week. Nothing to do with arbitration, it's purely to do with the fact that Ernie doesn't want to rush him. He's been on holiday for a while so he's got to ease him back into it."

A Mariners spokesman said the McGlinchey dispute was in mediation again yesterday.

Professional Footballers Australia is backing McGlinchey's right to play for the Phoenix, while Football Federation Australia is yet to make a ruling on the player's status.

It is understood that a teleconference took place last night between the Phoenix, Mariners, PFA, FFA and an independent arbitrator

Sounds like the Kiwis know they are on shaky ground (no pun intended).

Cheeky f**king upstarts.......nearly as bad as the Aussies bowling underarm back in the day.

I've never understood some Aussies slightly annoyed attitude when talking about Kiwis but i'm starting to understand now.

Mariners to focus on being more aggressive as preparations begin for next A-League campaign
THERE was no easing back into things as the Central Coast Mariners kicked off what is shaping as a busy A-League preseason on Monday.
Head coach Phil Moss put the squad through a tough session at the club’s Tuggerah base and was delighted with the hit-out.
After taking over from Graham Arnold early last season, this preparation is completely designed by Moss.
“It’s not about reinventing the wheel, it’s about me putting my own slant on things from the start,’’ Moss said.
“I’ve got a few ideas I want to implement. We’ve changed things up a bit, it’s going to be intense from day one and they were on the ball straight away. I want them fitter, faster and stronger for round one.’’

Moss also hinted at a new approach on game days.
“This season I want us to be more dynamic with the ball,’’ he said.
“We’ll be more aggressive, a lot of our pre-season focus will be on that.’’
While he has also locked in the bulk of his squad Moss confirmed he was on the looked for new players.
“I’m looking far and wide for players to bring in,’’ he said. “I want two players in the attacking half, a number nine to fight it out with Dukey (Mitchell Duke) and Matty (Matty Simon).
“I also want to bring in someone at the back, especially on the right, to give us a bit more depth in that area.’’
Meanwhile, Moss has made an addition to his coaching staff with former New Zealand international Stuart Jacobs joining the club. He comes on board in the newly created position of head of youth football.
Jacobs has a great pedigree as both a player and coach. He led the New Zealand under-23 team at the 2008 Beijing Olympics and the junior All Whites to the 2007 under-20 World Cup in Canada.
He was also Wellington Phoenix assistant coach in 2007-08. Jacobs will coach the clubs National Youth League team and also oversee the club’s youth scouting network.

I very much like the sound of this:
“This season I want us to be
more dynamic with the ball,’’
he said.
“We’ll be more aggressive, a lot
of our pre-season focus will be
on that.’’
