Mariners Squad 2022/2023

It’s actually crazy how deep our front and back line look.

I agree the above is in the ballpark, but think we potentially have a second 11 of

sozer
Kuzevksi Hall Triantis storm
Steel Bayliss
Kuol Ruhs moresche Tulio

As many have mentioned, It’s really the midfield we lack depth. I would really love for the rumours of Jordan Lynden to be true. Man he would round out this squad.
Forgot about Lynden... Add him and this becomes a very strong squad.

I argue the second side is stronger than some of the squads we fielded pre Stad

Will be interesting to see what our structure will become.

Defence looks solid. We also know the team will defend as a unit and work hard for each other, or else won't make the bench for the next game.

We have a lot of fast, powerful transition/attacking players going forward which should take the heat off producing through the midfield. Really the midfields job will be to hold, break up play, and send balls forward to the likes of Tulio (probably our 10?), Garang, Beni, Ayongo, Silvera, Ruhs et. al.
Nizzy, Triantis and Balard and so forth can definitely do this job and do it well if not under too much pressure. Last season other teams pressured our mids and undid us, so hopefully the raft of attacking potential will pin teams back better and not let them come forward with too much confidence or numbers.

Cummings job is to poach and be on the end of assists, which is his bread and butter. As we know already, he is great at dropping back to collect and create too so I expect some rotation from the mass of wingers/forwards who have speed and power that we'll field.

I'm as excited about this team and it's potential as I've been for any CCM team since the golden years, especially when consider the coaching strength behind it. New golden years in the making I hope.

I don’t expect Moresche to play much of the season and at best perhaps the last month or two as he suffered the injury late in the last season. I feel that is why Kaltak was signed as an injury replacement, why bother if Moresche is back in say January with the WC break.
I would agree. Moresche is probably looking at Feb/Mar but think Kaltak was signed to cover him.

He was but Kaltak will have a good part of the season to show what he has and who knows by the time Moresche is due back we may have a spare visa spot. You would have to think this is the plan, it's refreshing to see whilst we provide opportunities for players we also have some contingency plans in place to keep the team strong.

this is where a 4-3-3 would suit us perfectly. The speed, skill and power of 2 out of beni, garang, Silvera, Ayongo, Tulio and ruhs either side of cumdog would lead to a lot of chances and half chances for Jase who is an elite finisher. The midfield 3 could consist of Niz and Max behind Tulio in the 10 who could combine with JC. Or you could just do the workhorse trio of max niz and steeley holding. The fullbacks aren’t pressured to bomb on constantly and can be selective so they won’t get overdone regularly.
It’s all suddenly a lot more exciting especially after some very encouraging preseason results and performances.

just quietly, I think max is going to score a few from the edge of the box this season.

244 in attack as Montyball is all about getting the ball forward as quickly as possible. You need tremendous athletes who can also play football
Funny how everything comes back into fashion. Graham Taylor will be smiling

Verticality is where it is at baby. Fast and direct. As FFC Mariner said you need athletes.

Is why Arnie will get towelled at the WC. Getting the ball out wide is too slow and crosses from there are low percentage.

Yep with Kelechi and kaltak very good at long balls forward from what I’ve seen so far. It’s the game plan.

I seem to remember Ollie scored a few.
He did however I don't think he had other teams overly concerned, someone like Penha last season who makes other teams think twice about giving away free kicks close to the box is something we need. It's been far to easy in the past to concede free kicks against us and to not be overly concerned by the threat.
