Well, good for you, I'm glad to see that you aren't a hypocrite.
I dont think the relative contribution to the club is relevent, the issue is whether consumers are free to voice unhappiness with the poor quality of the product they are buying.

Just looking up stats on MS for 13/14 and 14/15 seasons (well the bit of 14/15 before he was dumped anyway).
13/14; 24 appearances......wait for it!........TWO goals!
14/15: 12 appearances.......wait, wait........THREE goals!
Those halcyon days!
and after last season's stellar effort, no wonder I dont want to drink the Kool Aid.
BTW where and when did you tell Kennedy that he was a 'wage thief" MM?

If we played 2 up front Matty could be effective, bustling, drawing defenders, creating a target and opening gaps.
But no coach plays 2 up front these days

Ahh I totally see what you’re saying now. 2 goals in 13/14, 3 goals in 14/15 (where I think he was also golden boot winner)... obviously he’s getting better with age, having bagged 7 goals in 18/19. Ladies and gentlemen, we should experience somewhat of a Matt Simon Renaissance this season, and we should consider ourselves blessed.

Correct me if I’m wrong however I’m pretty sure we did play two up front at some stage last year. Don’t recall it being effective.

Looks like an upswing from a low baseline, but the hiccup of 3 goals in 15/16 and then zero goals in 16/17 bucks that trend. Yep, 7 last year, certainly an increase, do you recall how many of these were penalties? Missing golden opportunities against NLP sides doesnt fill me with confidence.
So, Mariner Mick, exactly where and when did you tell Kennedy to his face that he was a 'wage thief' (yelling abuse at a keepers back the during a game doesn't count) :)

Piss off troll. I don’t need to justify my actions to someone who has been on this forum for five seconds and probably a Mariners’s fan for the same.

Go and troll the Jets forum and your own team.

LOL, I knew it, you didnt have the guts to do what you criticise others for. Give me the date and place and its easy enough to check with Ben.
You may have been on the forum longer but you are still wrong on Simon. Simon was crap in 13/14, crap in 14/15, (thats why we let him go), he was crap in 15/16, crap in 16/17 and crap last year too. Look at the stats. He has started the pre season as, you guessed it...crap. You cant blame all of that on Mulvey playing him in the wrong position.

We let him go in 14/15 because he was injured and we didn't know how he would come back but he still wanted top dollar. After we had filled our roster he said he would come on minimum wage but we were full.

Thanks PJ, I stand corrected as to why we let him go.

I agree this would be probably the best way to utilise his remaining assets, but at the cost of a central midfielder... it’s not something we could afford imo.

Anyway... I’ve been critical of Matty as I am of any player I think is not performing well enough for us. Matty is no longer HAL starting quality imo, but that doesn’t mean I don’t still respect him as a player, value his contribution, and appreciate the good work he still also does. And wombats right, there’s no reasonable case to be made for not being respectful to Matty.

But anyway, easy to move on from this I think.

Matty is not the starting striker we need, but will always, deservingly, be considered a Mariners great by most coasties.

And there’s no need to worry at the starting striker issue, as the Visa striker will obviously be looking to be our starting striker and we also have two promising young strikers on the books.

But I’m sure Staj will try and get whatever he can from Matty this year, and I’m sure Matty will give whatever that is his all. We can’t ask for more than that from any player we’ve signed.

Personally I’m hoping it’s a great last year late off the bench for him. I don’t see him starting or scoring a huge amount of goals, but what’s not hard to imagine is him coming on late in a couple of critical games and winning it for us and igniting the whole stadium.

The first two years Matty played at the Mariners I sat next to his family. That’s the ending I hope his A league career he and his family receive.

I agree, but there were times when we played two strikers and his tendency for hold up play killed our momentum and ended any inkling of a quick counter attack. I could definitely see him doing well in slowing down a match as he did with Sydney (but we lack their ability to dodge cards) or coming on late and bagging something from a set piece but it’s a big ask to occupy a bench spot for niche situations.
