ccmfans.net is the Central Coast Mariners fan community, and was formed in 2004, so basically the beginning of time for the Mariners. Things have changed a lot over the years, but one thing has remained constant and that is our love of the Mariners. People come and go, some like to post a lot and others just like to read. It's up to you how you participate in the community!

If you want to get rid of this message, simply click on Join Now or head over to https://www.ccmfans.net/community/register/ to join the community! It only takes a few minutes, and joining will let you post your thoughts and opinions on all things Mariners, Football, and whatever else pops into your mind. If posting is not your thing, you can interact in other ways, including voting on polls, and unlock options only available to community members.

ccmfans.net is not only for Mariners fans either. Most of us are bonded by our support for the Mariners, but if you are a fan of another club (except the Scum, come on, we need some standards), feel free to join and get into some banter.

I have to agree on the perception on the community engagement.  It seems to be since they started the mariners academy all the other engagements such as school visits seem to have dropped off.

They also missed a massive chance to get back into the footballing community with the rego days at the clubs.  Surely they could have sent a player to each club on at least one of the rego days to help drive some interest and spark around the ACL and even offered to kid free with an adult ticket type promos they have done before as playing in front of 6000 is not really going to impress any potential sponsors or players that we could be showcasing ourselves in fromt of in the ACL.

and are in no way a large enough sample of the wider view

Being entirely proper here - I do wonder sometimes what that wider view actually is.  Are we all just nutters on here, or are our views reflected by the general public??

Time to commission a survey methinks.  :p

So fwiw, micks opinion about the "wider view" supporting his views about the progress of the club mean f**k all really.

You really do not read my post properly did you?

Where in my post did I say that the wider opinion supports my view? All I said is that this forum is not a large enough sample size to get an indication of the wider view. I didn't chose to speculate on what the wider view was.

I was actually thankful of serious' reply because he didn't jump to conclusions, but had the intelligence to realise that his views may not be norm, as did I with my post.

i wouldnt be too worried about these china results. i dont like sound cocky but i was not really impressed with pohang last year, japanese clubs have been beatable against a-league teams in the past(urawa, kashima). know nothing about tianjin, but we are in with a real shout. eveybody knows i dont think kwas should be sound, but as has been said, i cant imagine there would be many options for the club. lets just enjoy the ride, this should be a happy time. get excited. dont worry to much. and then be critical after failure instead of prediciting it.

well said. Its time we start getting optimistic. yes we have had a form slump of late, we are due for success and i believe it will start with next weekis game. we need to have faith.

there's not a group in last years champions league where 9 points wouldn't have at least nabbed second place. i think the aim has to be to make the knockout rounds - that'd be job done.

to do that, we must win at home, but playing negatively away and trying to hit on the counter is perfectly acceptable. there's no reason we can't win at home either, we've got a lot of goals in us and we've got matt simon who i think is going to scare the daylights out of a helluva lot of defenders. with confidence and touch, he'll be unstoppable. he seemed off his game for the last few matches but in form he has the potential to be our travis dodd.

our real problems are obviously down the back, but again that's a confidence thing. as combinations are worked out with huke coming in and hopefully wilko getting his head together and the rest of the line with it, we should be able to sort out a coherent defence again.

The crowd for the final was bad enough but jeez, a Wednesday night (our Friday crowds are never that great) ....in a commuter area where half the population only sits down to dinner at 8 o'clock and considering the shit football lately.....we'll be lucky to get 6 or 7,000 tbh.

Have to agree that we're going to struggle for crowds. With the GFC I know relatives of mine can't even afford match tickets so aren't going on Wednesday - and they are members of the club who never miss a game. The people more likely to have the money for a night out on a Wednesday are those commuting back from the big smoke, and they'll struggle to make the game.

We also have the disadvantage of shit media coverage. Despite what people say about News Ltd, the Adelaide Advertiser gave the Reds great coverage including a few front pages during their run in Asia. Hype creates hype, but you need that catalyst.

We have the toughest market for good midweek crowds and I can only see them coming if we start winning.

And where do you think the stories about 20 or so locals complaining about a new roundabout would go.  :p

Wouldn't it be great if we drew Rivaldo's uzbeck club in the group stage. Having him here on the coast would have been great for the profile of the ACL on the coast. I'm sure it would have enticed a few more punters as well. Is there any names in the clubs we face that could be used to promote the games?

In all honesty, we will do very well to attract the 7/8k "core" support we have built up.

A few good performances will see that number increase.

A big name marquee/loanee/guest would have put a few more bums on seats but we would have to recoup the cost over only 3 games. Doubt the sums would have worked TBH.

I am going and I am the only crowd number I can influence.

Hope it's the "Travis Dodd" that played the last ACL and NOT the "Travis Dodd" of the 08/09 A-League  :p

Can't remember when we last won a game...I think it was an average game against Perth.  Far more alarmingly I can't remember the last time we played well!!!

We seam to be burying our heads in the sand.

Huke may end up being a decent signing and with help to solidify a sloppy midfield but what is being done about the back four.

We had the worst defence in the HAL last year and I can't see anything is going to change soon.

Send out an SOS for a specialist RB and a Centre Back Urgently!!!!
