With all the talk about our "Financial problems" I, would like to stand up & applaud GA & his team for totally focussing on football.

Many a time, have teams crumbled with such issues.

It takes a strong leader & a dedicated group of players to get to the position we`re in on the table with this sort of media hype.

Congratulations to all the management, players, staff & coaches.

"UNITED WE STAND- Mariner`s `til I Die.

From SMH today ... not much new but you get the feeling we could be called Marinervic soon..

Some time in the next week or two, Central Coast Mariners might well have new, Russian owners. Why? In part, at least, because of the Asian Champions League. A few months ago, Brisbane Roar secured new, Indonesian owners. Why? In part, at least, because of the ACL. After five years of participation, the Australian public and the corporate community have remained doggedly resistant to the charms of Asia's showpiece competition. In that respect, they're not alone. Of those nations eligible to compete, perhaps only Iran, China and Saudi Arabia have come to embrace the ACL. For the rest, it continues to be an awfully hard sell. Which makes the motivation of the Roar's new owners, the Bakrie Group, and that of the potential new owners of the Mariners an especially interesting development. They see the ACL not through the prism of Australian eyes but foreign eyes. And they're rich enough, and worldly enough, to back the potential.

If it means anything both off contract players Dutchie and Pedj had stories in the local rag saying that they really want to play another year with the mariners. So they might know something. This could also imply Arnie is committing to stay the distance.
Maybe we will all be drinking Vodka?

Mariners' rescue comes from Russia with roubles
BY: RAY GATT From: The Australian December 15, 2011 12:00AM

CENTRAL Coast Mariners officials are close to stitching up a deal that could rescue the club from the financial difficulties that have threatened its future over the past 12 months.

It is believed Football Federation Australia met with a consortium of Russian investors on Monday and that, while negotiations are at a delicate stage, contracts are on the table for a takeover of the Mariners.

The news could not have come at a better time for players, coaching staff and management at the Mariners as they are due to receive their monthly pay today.

The Australian has been told the wages bill will be met on time despite the club being late with payments to a number of players and staff in recent months.

As many as four players agreed to play in a recent match against Sydney FC, which the Mariners won 3-2, despite not getting paid on time last month. They were eventually handed their wages eight days late.

While FFA has put no deadline on bringing on board new owners for the Mariners, it will be keen to sort out the issue as quickly as possible.

Professional Footballers Australia, which represents all professional players in the country, has been closely monitoring the situation, which first came to light towards the end of last season.

I welcome their money but not so sure about being taken over. If this is true - and Ray Gatt, despite working for a newspaper whose coverage of the A league is shameful - is nearly always on the money with his stories - I wonder where that leaves Peter Turnbull, the CoE, and our links with NSW Premier League which provides so many of our NYL players? Still, most Russians seem to live in Bondi these days so maybe they are more local than I think?

Sing along

There lived a certain man in Russia long ago
He was big and strong, in his eyes a flaming glow
Most people looked at him with terror and with fear
But to Moscow chicks he was such a lovely dear
He could preach the bible like a preacher
Full of ecstasy and fire
But he also was the kind of teacher
Women would desire

RA RA RASPUTIN
Lover of the Russian queen
There was a cat that really was gone
RA RA RASPUTIN
Russia's greatest love machine
It was a shame how he carried on

He ruled the Russian land and never mind the czar
But the kasachok he danced really wunderbar
In all affairs of state he was the man to please
But he was real great when he had a girl to squeeze
For the queen he was no wheeler dealer
Though she'd heard the things he'd done
She believed he was a holy healer
Who would heal her son

RA RA RASPUTIN
Lover of the Russian queen
There was a cat that really was gone
RA RA RASPUTIN
Russia's greatest love machine
It was a shame how he carried on

(Spoken:)
But when his drinking and lusting and his hunger
for power became known to more and more people,
the demands to do something about this outrageous
man became louder and louder.

"This man's just got to go!" declared his enemies
But the ladies begged "Don't you try to do it, please"
No doubt this Rasputin had lots of hidden charms
Though he was a brute they just fell into his arms
Then one night some men of higher standing
Set a trap, they're not to blame
"Come to visit us" they kept demanding
And he really came

RA RA RASPUTIN
Lover of the Russian queen
They put some poison into his wine
RA RA RASPUTIN
Russia's greatest love machine
He drank it all and said "I feel fine"

RA RA RASPUTIN
Lover of the Russian queen
They didn't quit, they wanted his head
RA RA RASPUTIN
Russia's greatest love machine
And so they shot him till he was dead

Oh, those Russians...

Moscow, Queen of the Russian land.
Built like a rock to stand.
Proud and divine.
Moscow, your golden towers glow,
Even through ice and snow.
Sparkling, they shine.

And every night, night, night there is music
Oh every night, night, night there is love,
And every night, night, night there is laughter.
Here's to you, brother, hey, brother ho.

Hey, hey, hey
Moscow, Moscow,
Throw your glasses at the wall,
Fame and fortune to us all, ho, ho, ho, hey
Moscow, Moscow, join us for a casatchok.
We'll be dancing 'round the clock ha, ha, ha hey
Moscow, Moscow
Drinking vodka all night long,
Keeps you happy, makes you strong ho, ho, ho hey.
Moscow, Moscow,
Come and have a drink again,
You will never leave again. Ha, Ha, Ha

City of Mystery,
So full of history
Noble and old.

GATT said that they have been paid

That should have said "Welcome to our new overlords"

"GATT said that they have been paid " - " they" == players;

that's what you get using google translate disparagingly...
