Major Premiers??? Oh dear.

Breeze will have no say in which team he is asked to favour. Frank pays the money and gets to choose what happens.

I wouldn't say that, he should've sent off mrdja for the tackle that broke andrew durante's leg and he only gave a yellow card, and 3 years later, mrdja still hasnt played a full season and talay or fyfe breaks hefferan's (?) leg and should've been sent off, but was yellow carded only.

KARMA!

If Nik hadn't jumped at the right time Durante would have been red-carded for a double footed studs up tackle. As it was he escaped even a yellow!!! Durante got what he deserved - that was karma.!!!

Is any one suprised by the lack of banter in the press between the newcastle & central coast teams?  Cast your minds back to the regular season, Lawrie McKinna bagged out the newcastle fans for not travelling down to our home games & Adam Kwasnik came out and said he just doesn't like Newcastle at all.  Where is the build up?  It all seems to be going to the minor semi, Kosmina and Farina calling each other chokers, the press running with the whole state of origin angle.

Good point. I think that suits us a bit more tbh. We have to go away into a very hostile environment and I think if our boys are fully concentrated on the job at hand rather than the derby and the surrounds it will be better. On the home leg, build up the hate so our fans give them no quarter at Bluetongue :pirashoot:

I'm loving the low key build up. I can't believe the crap that the other clubs are carrying on with - after all the hype of the last month or so it feels like we are getting that winning feeling back again. I still reckon we are the only top 4 side that didn't choke last weekend.

As a side note aren't the jets going to look silly when they don't even make the GF.

EXCLUSIVE: Jets star Adam Griffiths declared his side will take a first leg lead against Central Coast on Sunday as ticket sales surge ahead of this huge F3 derby.
The feeling is that as a team we have to lift up another level for finals football. The mentality of the team and the coaching staff is that we're going out to win this game.

We're going to do everything we can to win the game on Sunday. Then once that game is over we'll focus on the next one.

"If we can concentrate on beating them, then we'll see what happens after that," Griffiths told au.fourfourtwo.com ahead of Sunday's A-League major semi final first leg at Energy Australia stadium, Newcastle.

He added: Maybe a 2-0 win to us."

Finals fever F3 style has gripped the Hunter with only a couple of thousand general admission tickets available as of Thursday night.

Officials are confident that weather permitting the game will sell out Energy Australia stadium. Around 24,000 fans tipped to squeeze into the revamped ground for this Northern NSW thriller.

And Jets fans may just see a new face in a gold shirt on Sunday. Griffiths, 28, said that new signing Song Jin-hyung, a former South Korean youth international, was looming as a very handy acquisition and may be the X-factor the side is looking for.

He's very good technically. He definitely has potential and is a good find for us for the future. I'm not sure if he'll play or be on the bench on Sunday though.

I haven't seen a helluva lot of him but he's a gifted player with good touches, but at the moment it's hard to say what he'll be like because he hasn't played in the A-League.

Griffiths adds that the crowd will play its part in making this an F3 derby to remember - even if Mariners fans appear to him to be more full on than Jets fans.

I think they have more of a disliking than what Newcastle have of them, he said.

I don't know why they don't like us to be honest. I'm not sure why they don't like us, but it's no problem.

I don't know whether it's a little bit bluff, it creates good viewing for the audience and I think the rivalry will only get stronger. I think it's a little bit of hype to be honest.

Griffiths described the week as an interesting one after both he and his brother Joel were selected in Pim Verbeek's 39-man Socceroo squad for the World Cup qualifier against Qatar.

It's something to be proud of. It's been so busy with all the media attention because of it but we've still got a big week ahead of us.

It's a league that's growing so there seems to be a lot of media attention and discussion about the league which is good.

I think it IS a problem if the Griffiths boys don't know why people don't like them.

Nice sentiment for the squadron from one of their heroes though. :pirashoot:

So, let me see if I get this right. Jests players think we are more "full on" than their own fans??

There you go Timmy, proof positive that your support is shit.

Many many reasons to not like Newcastle Jets.

Don't forget people, they didn't want us to be in the league!

As for this broken leg, karma BS, SHUT UP! No one deserves a broken leg NO ONE, not even Nicky Carle and you know how much I hate the guy. Seriously it was bad enough that the Sydney fan accidently did it but now people are seriously doing that stuff and it's not on, from either side.

Mariners at full strength for Final Series opener

The Central Coast Mariners have announced an extended squad of 19
players for Sunday's opening Major Semi Final leg and derby blockbuster
against northern rivals the Newcastle Jets at EnergyAustralia Stadium.

Strike pair John Aloisi and Matt Simon have shrugged off their knee and
hip concerns respectively and are available for selection, while
midfield ace Greg Owens returns to the fold having overcome his
hamstring strain.

The Mariners will make their return to Hyundai A-League Finals Series
action this Sunday, having missed last season's series after finishing
the Hyundai A-League 2006/07 campaign in sixth place.

The Mariners have played four Hyundai A-League Finals Series matches
previously and recorded two wins, one draw and one loss in such time.

The Mariners opened their 2006 Finals Series campaign in identical
fashion to how they will open this year's - away to their northern
rivals, and on Sunday will be hoping for an identical outcome.

The Mariners recorded a 1-0 win - their last Hyundai A-League victory
against their fiercest rivals, before returning home to ultimately win
the tie on aggregate by two goals to one.

"It's been a great year, we started off the season really well against
Sydney, we had a great first two thirds of the season, we fell away a
wee bit at the end, but everyone goes through their flat spots," said
Mariners Football Manager Lawrie McKinna.

"I think the sign of a good team is after you've struggled, to come back
the way we did against Wellington - we needed to get a win, we needed to
get a clean sheet and we done it."

"We've been the most consistent team over the year and we deserve to be
the Premiership winners, it's great for the boys, for the coaching
staff, officials at the club and the Members and supporters who have
supported us all year."

Sunday's match between the Mariners and the Jets marks the fourteenth
occasion the two sides have met in all competitions.

The Mariners and Jets' first match of Australian football's new era was
against each other - on Saturday, 7 May 2005 at Bluetongue Stadium when
the Mariners hosted the Jets in the opening round of the Club World
Championship qualifying series.

Including that match, won by the Mariners 4-2 on penalties, the Mariners
have defeated their northern rivals four times, suffered four losses and
have drawn on five occasions.

The Jets are indeed the side the Mariners have had most difficulty
overcoming in recent times; with the yellow and navy having not claimed
three points in the Hyundai A-League against their fiercest rivals since
February 2006.

Of the 19 players to have scored in derby fixtures between the Mariners
and the Jets, Mariners midfielder John Hutchinson is the most prolific
having netted three of the Central Coast's 13 goals, while for the Jets,
Mark Bridge and Joel Griffiths have scored two of the Jets' 13 goals.

"I think we can go into the Finals Series full of confidence - us
qualifying for the AFC Champions League is huge for the club and the
players and we now go into the Finals Series knowing that we've already
qualified," said McKinna.

"We can just go into the Finals Series and give it our best shot now and
going in with a bit of confidence from the weekend, there is no pressure
on us.

"Newcastle have had the wood on us the last few seasons and we need to
pick up a wee bit, we feel as though we can play a lot better than we
did against the Jets last time and I definitely think we can go on and
win the Grand Final."
