Lightning v Mariners

Full complement...
Liked the way the commentator gave up telling us who scored in the second half, considering the fog he did well to know the score at all :). Lots of changes in second half guess they were either trialists or youth team players, or both. Liked the look of no.26; no.27 got the other goal but don't know his name, very quick though. Rostyn Griffiths was looking good until Toope spun round him to score (shades of Boogard against Michael Bridges). Wilko didn't break out of a sweat all night and I am not sure Doig even bothered moving in the second half. Warren looked very lively, Amini was tidy and confident and wasn't that Brady Smith in the second half? Didn't know he was still with us? Thought Matty Simon was the pick.

from the listed players on the program we appear to have a full compliment without the two imports or are they not coming?

Some of the listed players will be youth league registered.

There were I recall 4 trialists - we don't know who they were (except 25. was Evan Daglis from Spirit FC)

Don't take too much notice of the scoreline - it was a trial game.  In general play it was closer than the score suggest with Lightning butchering a few chances but as someone said ... I don't think most players had their foot on the accelerator.

I saw Lightning last weekend (and will see them this Saturday at Christie vs Spirit) and Peter Preston was doing more player mixing than the Mariners - it was not his regular 11.  (eg. Brady Smith plays with them as No. 9 and he came out for Mariners in the second half).

Good crowd for the North vs South.

Trent Sainsbury looked useful in defence but will need to watch his attitude - some poor tackles that will get him creamed by HAL players.  My view is that Warren was busy but didn't do much. Trialist No. 24 (African?) had lightning pace and crossed well but didn't like close attention much (no not Bennie)

LOL, even the official report on the Mariners' website doesn't tell us who some of the subs were, the highest number they have is 23, but 26 impressed me and 27 scored (and they have it as Gallagher but I doubt that is correct). I am sure at least five young players were on by the end. And although it was foggy I am still sure I saw Brady Smith, but he isn't listed either.  BTW - good turnout on a cold night

i played number 24 and 26 this year. 24 scored a goal by beating 8 of our players and 26 was unstoppable in the midfield. good luck to them.

on another note: roses' goal was top notch.

Amini was my favourite. VERY good touch and rarely lost the ball. I can't see him getting a lot of game time for a while but he looked very promising.

Rose was also good. Awesome goal.

I thought McBreen and Simon were struggling. Not having the best touches, and Simon did a few stupid tackles out of frustration.

McBreens ability to bring the ball down and hold it up was exactly what DMac couldnt be arsed to do for us.
He may not be our top scorer this year but will be a massive part of the goals we do score

I thought Simon's first touch was poor, first hit out though since Feb/March so to be expected.  Thought they looked fit and reasonably organised, quality of opposition obviously poor so you'd hope so.
