Brady (bolter for the bench perhaps?)

Anyone want to bet we dont see Owens

I'll bet we don't see him. What's the go with Owens? He's been in the YL the past few games. Surely he must have a reasonable level of fitness by now? Surely he can at least come off the bench?

They way we've been going, it's got to be worth a shot. There's nothing to lose.

Owens targets first start on Sunday

The Central Coast Mariners mounting injury and suspension toll, coupled with some solid form in the National Youth League (NYL), has put dynamic midfield ace Greg Owens in the frame for his first start of the campaign on Sunday.

Owens has been a virtual cornerstone of the Mariners maiden NYL campaign to date starting eleven matches and appearing off the bench once to lead the race for the Mariners NYL golden boot with three strikes.

However, appearances and goals in the Hyundai A-League is what is most craved by Owens and Sundays potentially season defining clash against Adelaide United at Bluetongue Stadium would provide an ideal platform for the 27-year-old to make his belated return to Australias top flight.

"I think Ive Ive been improving every week in the NYL and Id love the opportunity to get on this week," said Owens.

"Playing in the NYL has been good for my confidence, I know that playing for the first team will be a step up, but if I get on there Ill do the job, if not, Ill do a job in the NYL again.

"Its been a frustrating couple of years for me, especially coming off a decent season with Adelaide before coming here, Ive got a lot to prove to the fans and to Lawrie as well.

"It feels as though Ive let a lot of people down and the boys, but at the end of the day you cant help what happens, Ive just got to get on with it and now I think that Im starting to get there."

Owens potential first start of the Hyundai A-League 2008/09 season will be fittingly against his former club, Adelaide United.

The Reds were the first team to introduce one of Australias most celebrated youth internationals to the Hyundai A-League, with former Adelaide coach John Kosmina handing Owens his first Hyundai A-League cap off the bench against Sydney FC in the 2006 Major Semi Final 2nd Leg at the Sydney Football Stadium.

Owens contributed 23 appearances to Adelaides Hyundai A-League 2005/06 and 2006/07 seasons scoring four goals in the meantime.

Since linking with the Mariners ahead of season three, Owens has started fifteen matches and appeared off the bench on a further four occasions in the Hyundai A-League none of which have been registered in season four.

"Its a massive game, Adelaide are a good team and I think the confidence of our boys has been down after the last few losses, so weve just got to get on the training pitch and work towards getting three points on Sunday," said Owens.

"Its been a good season for Adelaide, theyve been great, I think in playing against Asian opposition theyve learned a lot and theyre always tough to beat.

"Weve got a good record against them at Bluetongue, but all that matters on Sunday is that we get three points."

The Mariners will be back at their Bluetongue Stadium home on Sunday, 25 January to host AFC Champions League finalists Adelaide United in the final regular season round of the Hyundai A-League 2008/09 campaign. Kick off is at 7pm.

GRRR

Hey, he can't possibly be worse than Green was last week.  Not even Breeze misses penalties THAT blatant.

Heck, I know I'm going out on a limb here, but even Shield might've spotted that one ;-)

Confidence is going to be the decider, again.  Last week we were good enough to win but we didn't have the confidence - if we play like we did, we should sink one first and win.  Either that, or the 3-0 drubbing is going to ruin our confidence....  Still, I'm sure there's no way the sheepshaggers can win their game.

LOL

Sasho and Porter are on 4 yellow cards so 1 yellow will rule them out of the first semi (assuming we get there).....Lawrie would rest these players to ensure we didn't lose them.

Apart from that we will recognise them all.  Might give Owens, Caceres, O'Grady and Boogs starts?  Let's hope Welly don't win which will mean Lawrie can do what he wants as we can't finish any higher

Matthew Lewis - is he a good mate of yours?? Never heard of him...

my comment was that the team will not be anything like what we have seen recently should Welly win... We haven't seen Owens, Smith Lewis all year

I don't think anything has mentioned that Pedj is in bigger card trouble. Currently on 7 cards and one more he will miss two matches.

lol so what will our backline look like without porter and perj? If Wellington win we have to go for the win also, but do we risk going for the win Sunday and miss half the back line in semis, or play an unfit backline on Sunday and hope to outscore Adelaide, and keep our best backline available for semis??

ozzy--wilko--ogrady/boogs--dapuzzo

Perhaps?

Ozzy and Dapuzzo arnt in the squad so that backline isnt possible bear.

Remember Owens can also play right back (how well remains to be seen.. see GF v2), so that could be an option for Lawrie.
