yeah...but Junininho is a much classier player....IMO easily the best player in the a-league season 3.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHA!!!!!  You're kidding, right??

And as for Dwight - no.  Methinks this is Striker#9 stirring sh*t as he always does.
hi Serious....nope...I was serious about Junininho's ability.....even though SFC are shite....as has already been said in this thread (or another...I lose track...I'm almost retired remember) he almost managed to make Brosque look good which is no mean feat.  However, I agree his shoulder is suspect but imagine...we'd then have Fozzie onside as well....(god forbid)  ::)

JUNINHO is not the man to replace John Aloisi at the Central Coast Mariners but coach Lawrie McKinna says a ringing endorsement from Sydney FCs new boy is a fantastic recruiting advertisement for the new campaign.
Speaking to au.fourfourtwo.com today the Bluetongue boss said he did not envisage Juninho heading north to join the Mariners and becoming their marquee star.

I cant believe Sydney people actually believe there is a possibility that Juninho will fit under the cap. He wont be accepting anything less than say 600-700k IMO and thats a estimate that would be favorable towards sydney. I predict 750k- 1m being the price range that he would be in

I believe spending a s**tload on an out and out forward is wasting a marquee spot and money. if you look hard enough you would find someone who could put away more than 10 this season that would cost around 100k

Maybe Striker9 was thinking of another player named Dwight, perhaps? He didn't actually say Dwight Yorke did he?

i agree,
we didn't need to spend all this money, some yes but..
he really should have signed some backs.
But they will come.

Out of the two of them I'd have to go with Dwight. Juninho showed flashes of South American skill but no where near enough IMO, can't or won't handle the physical nature of our league, is injured to much and does'nt have the natural physical strength to do it easy from week to week.

Dwight is fresh off competing in one of the best leagues in the world and must be fit. Whether people like it or not is a media magnet and would enhance the profile of the club off the field while being professional enough to realise that playing football is what he is payed for. After the stint with Sydney he got a offer to return to the EPL which says something of his skills and comittment to first being a good footballer. Personally I thought he did a good job last time around in the A-League and better than Juninho did last season.

Saying that I would much rather the club look at other options.

I'd be starting to worry if I was you James. The salary cap money is getting tight, and Kemmeny has already said he won't have a full squad because of the salaries. Add to that, that Poppa is a year older and the way the HAL seems to find out slow, or slowing players each new season, and Fyfe is reported to be unhappy with his offer, and even an Aloisi and Bridge combo on fire won't be able to snuff out the goals you end up conceding.

Your only saving grace will be the fact that you will be able to exploit the same loophole we did by getting Aloisi as short term injury coverage, should any of the lucky 20 get hurt. But getting players from another league and asking them to perform a week later, cohesivley, is a big ask.

Pete: Kosmina has already said he'll only have a squad of 20 or 21 anyway to buy these players, if he uses all 23 I'd start asking questions.

That was the point I was making to James, I view that as a  risk.

Say, for example, Poppa is too slow this season, sure they have 3 great strikers but whose the backup in the midfield and defence areas?

Noticed too, that they still have Enfield on their books. That guy had a major injury last year, and will be coming back slowly. And he wasn't exactly setting the world on fire before he got injured either. Even Culina wasn't happy with him.

If you decide to go with a squad of 20 or 21 players, you'd really have to be sure of each individual's abilities and have at least a couple of handy utility players or you could have an unbalanced squad.

AFAIK,a short term injury contract can be made with a player not on their books at the start of the season, exempt from salary cap calculations, for an injured player. The roster doesn't have to be full, just need an injured player.

They'll just call up staff members, they've already been playing their development officer, apparently their Kit Manager played in Hawaii, won't be long until their media manager gets a run. The issue with the injury replacements thing is that you DON'T need to have more that 15, you could sign 15 and then whenever someone gets injured just replace them. Would be a nice loophole even if the FFA scrap the loophole CCM signed Aloisi on.

Just wait for sugar daddy frank to get creative with the accounts.

Right, but by the time the season gets underway, the better players have signed contract elsewhere, and unless you have the crazy situation like Aloisi found himself in in Spain, the quality of player would  be questionable. And playing State League guys who are in the middle of their off season ,or in maybe pre season training, might be risky too.

Playing ex players who are staff would be as risky. No matter how many times they may have trained with the squad.

I believe the HAL has improved to such a level that you simply couldn't get away with an ex State Leaguer, who was now your Development Officer, making the grade.

then if theres anything we can learn from rugby league its the lesson that the bulldogs got that year that they were busted from the top of the ladder down to only their points they accumulated from the byes.

And if we do only get Galaxy next season and have a bye, well that will suit me just fine when Sydney get caught.
