I Can't Help Falling in Love With You

I quite liked it but I will sing along with anything if I know the words.
Would love to here 500 miles by the proclaimers. Shit song but great to sing along to (especially after a dozen schooners).

Not one that immediately sprang to my mind, but a 1,000% improvement on the Elvis abortion.

And what's wrong with doing an RBB ? Pinch 'Sailing' and claim we invented it! At least it matches our nautical them. Not sure what's nautical about the Smurfs apart from the 'Cove'. Their theme song should be this:

Well here's my 2 cents worth…

I thought it was ridiculous as a song to walk out to. It sounded completely inappropriate and I was slightly embarrassed to be honest. They actually played ACDC straight after it, and for the first time this season, I was glad to hear it. In fact, it made Thunderstruck sound like a genius song and if I had a choice between the two, I'd definitely chose the latter as a pre game song.

To be honest, I have mixed feelings. I remember singing it in the 2nd leg of the semi up in Brisbane a few years ago and it sounded fantastic. I didn't mind it so much when they played it at the end of the game on Saturday either (although I still wasn't a fan).

I also accept the fact that many a kitch song has become true anthems for many a side, so I'm prepared to give it time, albeit with a heavy heart.

I much prefer Sailing. More appropriate and a true footballing anthem. Basically, I think it's bullshit to say Sydney have made Sailing theirs… I don't care. We have to get over this inferiority complex. Thank heavens the players don't suffer from it. The best way to stick it up Sydney is to make Sailing ours. I thought the colour yellow was ours… but low and behold, Wellington are yellow too. YNWA is Liverpool's? Try telling that to a Celtic supporter.

My intention is not to upset anyone ... so my thoughts...

Maybe 200 maybe as high as 500 people actually know what it is suppose to be ... when I tell those around me the normal reaction is who the F would choose that song...

What it shows me is a missed opportunity ... maybe not lost as the current song is not known that much yet...

Lyle Gorman when the Drive Bys started held many community forums to decide key issues it had the effect of spreading the word and involving people in the team.. I would as a club announce a competition and hold forums for the good folk of the Coast to choice their song ... maybe Elvis will still get the nod ...

If we involved schools local radio and newspapers it could get people talking about the Mariners and what we want our Football team to say to the world.. take most of the off season to do it ... develop some method collecting votes from Mariners members but involve the Cost Community ..

What we have seems to be top down approach where some within the Home End have decided what the song should be ....

IMO a general announcement especially if we used the local media to spread the word and involve the schools ... if the Coast Community gets involved and the word spreads and to vote you need to be a member etc etc etc...

I would like to point out that YNWA is quite a short song with heaps of meaning ...

My choice would be for a song that has a very easy and catchy tune and words...

Something like Ghost Riders in the Sky with its
Yippie yi aaaay
Yippie yi ohhhh,

I don't think this would be our song I am using as an example of choosing a song that has a part where everyone can just join in and show how wide spread it is used.

this is Spiderbait version ..... ...... listen from about 1.17 for the Yippe..

how the band could use it ......

This is the Wille Nelson /Johnny Cash version listen about the 1:02......

My greater point is we approached the club to float this out to the media and get everyone talking about it and thinking about it ... trouble with putting it out for a popular vote is they won't choose what I want...

For mine, the walk out song has to be a real excitement builder, getting the fans stamping their feet, even stirring up the players. Thunderstruck does it for me, the chorus of We can't be beaten also. If you want to do the ballad, save it for after we win. I was at ANZ a few years ago when we played a WC qualifier against Uzhbekistan and they played Thunderstruck. The crowd got really into it, stomping their feet to "Thunder". Made the hair on the back of my neck stand up. Mind you, there were 40K there, wouldn't be quite as effective at BT unless the band belted the drum & a blast on the trumpets at the appropriate points. Just my two bob's worth.

Just for shits & giggles I`d like to hear the Yellow Army give this a run..a good iconic Aussie song that no other club sings
Heh. Was thinking that myself. I think it's very much an away trip song - you'd want to kick it off in a pub on an away trip, probably the night before a game.

If we ever happen to play a Grand Final interstate, maybe somewhere like Brisbane (? do they even know how to Grand Final up there ?), then that'd be prime time to kick it around.

AC/DC and Rose Tattoo are just so irredeemably bogan. "We Can't Be Beaten" is all shades of awful, and "Thunderstruck" is anything but a singalong.

On the tempo question, to get a crowd anthem, you need long notes (which necessitates slow tempo) so that you don't wind up with all parts of the ground singing different parts. When the tempo speeds up, people lose track - we have enough trouble keeping front and back of Bay 16 in time on quick tunes, and we've got a frickin drum no more than 15m from anyone in the bay.

Love it. Iconic Aussie band, good tempo, everyone knows it and can sing along.

I hate to say it, but the scum were 100% on the money when they went with Never Tear Us Apart. For them, that song came to represent their unity whilst Con the Fruiterer was trying to run them into the ground, so it has a deeper meaning. I guess for us, we are just trying to pluck a song out of the air and apply a meaning to it, hence no one feels quite passionate about any one song.

Been thinking about the and this is one of my two choices next post my other choice ... One Love ... ie reasonably short, well known main verse, this is my choice..

BTW click on the show more for the Lyrics ... the original Bob Marley version

One of the Playing for Change version's ... IMO this is a vid worth watching in case you don't know it was made by recording buskers all around the world playing the same song...

Regardless of weather the song is good or bad it's the lyrics that matter most ":shoutclap:we can't be beaten:shoutclap:" (as scum, drive by's , sanfrecce & Beijing found out):overheadl:
