Hutch to play for Malta

Now that Ronaldo might be going to Real, I think it will be awesome to watch Hutch go in late on him (probably inevitable)

He is no where near international class but neither are Malta.  Good match really and good luck to him.

International 'class' by name only. So too is New Zealand, Solomon Islands and Fiji..... not much 'class' there either.

I tend to think that Hutch is just having a case of national team envy of a few players around him who have had junior and senior rep honours - for Australia - while he has got zero.

If he's lucky to get selected and even luckier to play against a star player like Ronaldo (which Portuguese NT coach would be stupid enough to put the call to Sir Alex for a match against the minnows of Malta?) AND still think a total mismatch against such players will enhance his CV then he is obviously deluded. All the real world could offer him is the hope that somehow he doesn't make a complete goose of himself.

You really are a miserable b*****d aren't you?

If I were eligible to play in an international for Outer Woop Woop (pop. 75) because of my heritage, I would be in it like a shot.

Neither Hutch nor myself will get selected for Australia and we both know it.

Why not try being a supporter of the club and its players and wish him all the best.

Bloody knockers.  :soapbox:

Why not highlight all the other detracting posts that others have made Ursus?

Oh and did you see my original post on this Thread?

lmaoooo roflcopterrrr lulzzzzzzz hehehe

Something wrong with that joke.....aaah let's see.....that's it! Cristiano Ronaldo getting sexually aroused at the sight of female genitalia.

More on topic though. :yellowcard:
If the Australian selectors haven't given Hutchinson a nod in NT colours by this stage of his career - and by his own vainglory admission he says he is in his late, late 20s - then go for it while it's still on offer.

Can imagine the mindgames in a Malta v Portugal game...... (hair gel jokes at 20 paces  ??? ::) )

I have highlighted what I originally said, Ursus. Not so miserable eh?

Hutchinson joins Malta charge

Central Coast Mariners midfielder John Hutchinson has been rewarded for his consistent Hyundai A-League form over four seasons in yellow and navy with a call up to the national team of Malta, who will continue their 2010 FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign in Europe later this month.

Hutchinson is one of several players with Maltese heritage to have been identified by the Maltese Football Association in a bid to strengthen the quality of their national team, which occupies a modest 150th place in the most recent edition of the FIFA World Rankings.

Born and raised in country Victoria, Hutchinsons grandmother immigrated to Australia from Malta several decades ago thus qualifying the Mariners midfield ace for international recognition by his adopted country.

Hutchinson is now in Malta having cut short his off-season break and is in line to line up for the Knights of St. John in a friendly international against the Czech Republic in Jablonec on Friday of this week before backing up to face Sweden in a 2010 FIFA World Cup qualifier in Gothenburg on Wednesday, 10 June.

"Im delighted to have been given this opportunity by the Maltese FA and their coach Dusan Fitzel and Im really looking forward to what is a fantastic opportunity and a great challenge in new and exciting surrounds," said Hutchinson.

"Im a very proud Australian and will always be, though I am equally as proud of my Maltese heritage and will wear the jersey of Malta with the pride, honour and respect that it deserves."

Should Hutchinsons initial stint in red and white be a successful one, the glamour fixtures that await the 29-year-old would make his CV the envy of all of his Hyundai A-League peers.

The might of Sweden will again face Malta in early September, before Hutchinson lines up reigning FIFA World Player of the Year and Manchester United kingpin Cristiano Ronaldo along with his Portugese teammates in Portugal on 14 October.

Though Malta are out of the running for a place at next years showpiece in South Africa, Czech-born coach Fitzel is determined to ensure that his side complete their FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign on a positive note, having failed to find the back of the net in seven qualifying matches to date while registering just one draw in the process.

With the likes of Wellington Phoenix defender Manny Muscat and Hutchinson now on board to bolster a line up that is headlined by England-based strike pairing Daniel Bogdanovic and Michael Mifsud, Malta are hopeful of an affirmative conclusion to their tenth FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign.

"We extend our congratulations to John for his selection and, like him, eagerly look forward to the opportunities that await him and his Maltese team-mates in the coming weeks and months," said Mariners Executive Chairman Lyall Gorman.

"Such experiences in a new environment will only serve to better Johns development on and off the pitch and were of course delighted to see a Mariners representative mixing it with some of the luminaries of world football."

They haven't exactly got a huge population to choose from.I went there on holiday about 22 years ago.We hired a car , filled it with petrol and used it every day for 2 weeks. It still had more than half a tank in it when we took it back.If I remember correctly you could drive from one end of the island to the other in about 20 mins.

Sounds like Tasmania :)
