ccmfans.net is the Central Coast Mariners fan community, and was formed in 2004, so basically the beginning of time for the Mariners. Things have changed a lot over the years, but one thing has remained constant and that is our love of the Mariners. People come and go, some like to post a lot and others just like to read. It's up to you how you participate in the community!

If you want to get rid of this message, simply click on Join Now or head over to https://www.ccmfans.net/community/register/ to join the community! It only takes a few minutes, and joining will let you post your thoughts and opinions on all things Mariners, Football, and whatever else pops into your mind. If posting is not your thing, you can interact in other ways, including voting on polls, and unlock options only available to community members.

ccmfans.net is not only for Mariners fans either. Most of us are bonded by our support for the Mariners, but if you are a fan of another club (except the Scum, come on, we need some standards), feel free to join and get into some banter.

With the imminent departure of the wee man, I am starting to sink into my now traditional January blues. It seems that each January, our heart is ripped out.

ANYWAY... in an attempt to cheer myself up, I would like to propose that we create a CCMfans Mariners Hall of Fame. We can vote players in that deserve to be recognised as Mariners Legends. Names that spring to mind are McGlinchey, Jedi & of course our heart & soul, Lawrie.

I dont know what the parameters should be or how it should be organised... but I would really like to see those that deserve it to be recognised.

Thoughts?

Rather than just throwing names around, how about we come up with some KPIs? For example, Perez would have to be in the top 3 quality players we've had, but in my opinion, he wouldn't make it into the HoF.

Lets concentrate on figuring out what the minimum requirements are, then if someone meets them, then we can put it to a vote.

In my opinion, for a Mariner to enter the HoF, he (or she) must have:
- Played (or been associated with the team) for at least 3 seasons
- Shown some kind of community involvement
- Committed a foul on a scum player (not mandatory but worth bonus points).

Surely there are other requirements... put your thinking caps on people.

. hmm ....

In my opinion, for a Mariner to enter the HoF, he (or she) must have:

. i am seeing some flexibility in interpretation of the rules already ;) ... didn't jedi only play one full season with us?

. great idea ... tough ask ... any 'rules' i can think of would have us including far too many players (including some we shouldn't) ... by any stretch of the rules (unless there is a return) someone like rogic could only ever be an honorary inclusion

OK, you got me! :) What can I say... He's my favourite player.

But that's the kind of thin we need to guard against. Everyone has their favourite player and we all think our favourite is a walk up start for the HoF... but we need to be able to prevent bias from inducting someone that probably shouldn't be there.

For what it's worth, I think Jedi should be in... but if there is a fair criteria that we all agree on, then I'll accept that fact he is ineligible.

Mile played just 45 games for us. Of that, he was only with us for one full season. Hall of fame is a stretch I think.

arguably the most dominant player to wear a mariners jersey.
as for 45 games! ryan giggs has been playing football 10 years longer than the mariners have existed

. since nobody seems willing to set some criteria ... perhaps it would be easier to start with what may disqualify a 'nominee' ... eg. played for another a-league club (or four!) ... a lengthy ban such as the one vukovic received ... moving for money ... or trophies :piralaugh: ... or both

. do we consider awards, achievements and accolades ... is this only during their tenure with the mariners
. some of these things will matter to some or many ... but at least they are objective
. for others it will be 'crowd favourites' ... which can't be discounted, but is much more subjective
. must you have reached certain point in your career or age?
. does foundation signing gain you bonus points?
. talent or endeavour?

. maybe if we consider the names already mentioned in this thread and why they would or would not be ordained into the hall of greatness ... this may help to establish some guidelines ???

Patrick Z. My fav mariner and the main reason alongside Arnie why we were the best defensive team the last 3 years, plus finally winning the GF.
Others might have more points than Patrick but he should be excepted straight away in the HOF.
Hutch should be 2 for completely other reasons.

Can I suggest two levels.

Legend - very exclusive - e.g. Arnie, Patrick, Maty
Clubman - maybe not the star player but bleeds for yellow and navy. e.g. Hutch, Wilko,

As for guidelines, I think post-Mariners career should be a consideration but not as big what they did for the Mariners.

I love the idea of 2 levels.

Legend should be a very, very, very exclusive club, with perhaps one person being inducted per year... max.

I've been reading some selection criteria for various HoF's in other sports. Basically, there doesn't seen to be any hard & fast criteria a person should meet. People are nominated and a vote takes place. Fans do the nominating and a board of (usually) journos do the selecting.

That raises the question of what our process should be. Should we open up the nominating to everyone but only a select group of people do the final selection?.... or we just open it up to a general vote and whoever gets the most votes gets inducted?

My preference (at this stage) would be to form a HoF board, consisting of about 10 CCMfans.net members, a few YA active members, some media, like Mike Kmet and Ray Gatt (and others) and a couple of club reps. All nominees are put up for consideration by the board and the board decided on an annual intake of 5 (or so) inductees.

What do you think?
