ccmfans.net is the Central Coast Mariners fan community, and was formed in 2004, so basically the beginning of time for the Mariners. Things have changed a lot over the years, but one thing has remained constant and that is our love of the Mariners. People come and go, some like to post a lot and others just like to read. It's up to you how you participate in the community!

If you want to get rid of this message, simply click on Join Now or head over to https://www.ccmfans.net/community/register/ to join the community! It only takes a few minutes, and joining will let you post your thoughts and opinions on all things Mariners, Football, and whatever else pops into your mind. If posting is not your thing, you can interact in other ways, including voting on polls, and unlock options only available to community members.

ccmfans.net is not only for Mariners fans either. Most of us are bonded by our support for the Mariners, but if you are a fan of another club (except the Scum, come on, we need some standards), feel free to join and get into some banter.

The other thing I'd like to see is 4 rounds instead of 3. Then all teams play each other home/away equally.
Is that practical? Probably not, at least not yet. I'd like to see it though.
I'd honestly prefer it went the other way increase the number of teams by two and make it a 22 round comp with 1 home game and 1 away v each team.

Where would you have the other 2 teams from, personally I'd have Wollongong & Canberra.

Yep, definitely. Although there's still a case for a North Queensland side if done properly.

That'd be 36 games, which is shorter than the Premier League, Serie A, La Liga and Ligue 1 seasons (all 38 matches) but longer than the Bundesliga (34 matches).

For youth development, it's probably essential. We'd likely need bigger squads and salary caps, and there'd be issues of crossover against the major winter codes.

It also means that when (not if) we go to 12 teams, we'd be in a dilly of a pickle - 44 games is too long (though English lower leagues play 46!) so we'd be really burning the candle at both ends.

Bearing in mind as well - the impact of the finals series... I don't see the FFA giving that up anytime soon.

I'm an idiot savant without the pesky savant bit
two extra teams...well, I definately give the Wolves a rebirth...than possibly Canberra or even South Melbourne

f**k South Melbourne.

Wollongong
Tasmania
Canberra.

Expect the tools at FFA would like to make the Gong a Wolves/Cronulla joint venture?

I think Tassie would be the smartest move. They are dumb AFL stooges but do like their sport and would appreciate not being shat on for a change.

One of my best mates is in Hobart, supports LFC and knows f**k all about the game but his 2 teenage girls are more interested in soccer (his words) than fumbleball.

Tasmania is split between north and south. Hobart has 200k people, and the next big city is Launceston, which is 200km away and has only 75k people.

There are more (smaller) cities further away on the north coast.

The population numbers don't stack up, and they don't have a rectangular ground anywhere that's close to A-League standards.

I think we can rule Tassie out.

Hobart Mariners?
We can but can MC & PS rule it out.
Even if relocation were on the cards*, for the reasons I stated above Tassie would not be in the running.

*A year out from a new TV deal that should make sure all clubs are viable businesses with potential to break even on an ongoing basis, I think the suggestion is ludicrous - both MC and FFA would need to agree and frankly I think that's incredibly unlikely.

Says Wellington in the article? Poor bait.
The only connection to Wellington is a fairly open quote based purely on a new flight route and nothing more.

"In the context of football we'd look to strategic alliances that align with other government priorities. Clearly we're doing a lot more in New Zealand [with direct flights]. There's an avenue right there."

It makes very little strategic sense for Wellington to shift games here when they have options in NZ. That just leaves us with the base of the article which is Canberra paying to get games, which we have unashamedly done previously.

So the same pop as Wellington then....but actually in Australia.

I'd think we may well play a game in Canberra - if the money is right, same as Geelong last year. If it means off-setting the costs of low-drawing games at Gosford then I think (for the most part) fans are generally ok with it. No more than one game there though.

If that's what ultimately happens I'd be interested in what the strategic reasons (apart from a handy cash injection) are.
