i am one of the guhys that 'go nuts'...but I still have stick to my club thru hard times- if Gumprecht is in the right then i would have to say we owe it to him- although he is past use by date!
Roberto Carlos had similar problems at Madrid but I didnt stop supporting them!

i mean everyone here is pretty much a diehard mariners supporter (i presume with exception of trolls)! Are you guys tellin me u dont go nuts for Andre? Yet i presuime none of us are gonna leave because of Gumprecht...

For those who say he is past his use by date u strongly disagree. yeh sure like any player that come back from injry they gonna be a little rusty but nearly every game towards the end of the season when he has come off the bench he has had an impact

No, I, and MANY others on here DONT go nuts for Andre. He pulls out of challenges, he waits till he has lost the ball, then chases the player who stole it and dose his trademark "slide" to try and get it back, and is just plain old getting older and slower, whilst the team around him grows from strength to strength.

but 4 months on from last season he will be making even less of an impact!
i think everyone will agree that even though he provided some good impact off the bench at times this season when we needed it...he is not the Gumprecht of old...and as he gets older...less of impact and for the money he presumably wants, that is probably similar to 2 young players with similar ability (but headin in opposite direction).
Only positive is that he is crowd favourite and that he has bags of experience!

well it seems that I am a bit on my own here...I am diehard for mariners and still love Gumprecht (suprised some on here dont)...but i do agree (see previous posts) that he is gettin older

Ok, WE will all support the club, as nobody is bigger than it, but what about the other 10,000+ who go f**king nuts when he comes on as a sub, even when he has played shit for weeks and cant get a run, THEY are the people who will read that story and take his side.

Exactly. Andre has been a crowd favourite from day 1.

And couple that with a bad news story against the management of the Mariners, like, oh say, a story about them trying to relocate a home game or two to a venue 80+ klms away to chase the almighty dollar, a membership package that arrives with an increase in what they have to pay, and a few mates at work telling the Dad of the family that Sydney FC are doing this and that for members -  - -  well, you get my drift...

for a dash of perspective - players will come and go whether they're crowd faves or not, the homebush thing looks dead, we've got an extra home game this year so the membership price is bound to go up (or else people will simply complain that the value isn't as good in a 10 home game year) and sydney are finally getting their shit together.

we're hardly the newcastle jets here...

lol
I am on the fence but probably leaning to get rid of gumprecht!
I love Gumprecht- and acknolwedge his services
BUT
acknowledge the direction the club is heading in and that he is past his ues by date.
IMO Elrich, Caceres are more worthy of place in team then Gumprecht (and they are on same wages probs which is crazy)
So i am siding with the club- no place for sentamentality
(look at Fowler...he left Liverpool even though he wasnt retiring- just wasnt up to standard...the fans loved him-a lot more than we love Gumprecht)

Club / player fallouts have always happened and will continue to happen. I still believe Gumps has something to offer the club both on the field and off it. I will remain a loyal CCM and Andre supporter no matter the outcome. I would like to see him play a fourth year with us though and he hasn't 'jumped ship' like someone else we know in search of more $$$. If he is being axed primarily for his mad monday prank, then that is a feeble reason IMO.

As much as I think Gumps should have got more game time during the season, as much as I wonder about Owens put on in the GF after Gumps played well and helped in the 3-0 thrashing of the jets before that I think it's obvious that the club\coach whatever the reasons won't give him a go next season and would be a waste of the salary cap $'s.

I will be interested to see what the details to the suggested legal action are and hope that the club does'nt look to have screwed ANY player and hope a mediator can resolve things quickly before it gets messy and causes underlying conflicts with players and management, time and resources wasted that could be better spent and negative media exposure for the club.

I hope it's sorted quickly the new seasons not that long away.

Going off at a tangent, I think Andre has the respect and the knowledge to take up a role as a coach of a youth league team, and come off the bench in the 1st team, if his playing form warrants that.

They can, if they want to - and Andre is prepared to accept it -  offer him a contract where a portion of his salary is cap exempt, keep him in the squad as a bench player, and utilise his experience as a coach to bring on the youth team.

But, as it looks like he is on the outer with a few folks at the management, I doubt they will offer him that sort of deal.

i guess it depends also with his football clinic business what he is going to do, it seems the mariners and him wont be working together in any sort of capacity so he has some hard decisions ahead of him, the only alternative as i see it is to play for either sydney or newcastle (if he wants to keep playing) if he keeps his academy running

Far more likely to be at the Jets I'd say.

He was linked with Sydney less than 3 months ago tho. Would be a great impact player where ever he goes tho, cant see him starting many, which is what he wants tho

jets would be the more likely option imo, seeing as sydney have already got colosimo and monkey boy in their new look midfield - either way he will be on a substantially lower pay packet because he is the one needing to chase them

Good idea, but sadly I think your right.

Ha, it's more likely that Joe Spiteri will be a coach in a youth league than Andre! ;) ;D

He would have done well to seek a loan out to the NSWPL, then if he carved it up he could have had better bargaining power.

Feel sorry for him, I thank him for all his contribution, but it is one of those hard decisions coaches have to make.  He will aways be the Marinators player of the year for our first season .

Or as 442 call it "the fans player of the year", pisses me off, they know we are the marinators, they know its us who decide, so call it like it is you pricks.

anyway

Most of the posts so far seem to assume there is a right and a wrong here.  Either Gumpy is right and the club is wrong or vice versa.  Never forget there are always two sides to these episodes.  Gumpy may well have a dispute and a personal grievance with the club, but one can hardly call him disloyal for pursuing an employment case against them.  He is a professional person with a career and a future to consider, not forgetting a mortgage payment.  Suing his employer does not make him a bad person.  Nor does it make him a bad Mariner.
Similarly, being an employer does expose you to the risk of such action if your employee feels aggrieved.  With a large number of employees in a competitive situation all vying for selection it is almost inevitable that such situations arise.
Take a step back from trying to understand the detail here.  You can still love a litigious Gumpy and a club that may have erred in its obligations.
