giving Trotty a chance?

Now that we know Danny is only going to be out for 8 games. I reckon that we as fans should start supporting Trott as a suitable replacement. I know we have to start the season with wins and i honestly believe he has the skill to get us through this rough patch if given a proper chance. (if it doesn't work out there is always Redmayne, i guess). im expecting differing views, thats why there is a question mark at the end of the subject line.

in 2 games for vukovic he conceded 10 goals  :-\

Do you remember the other two games he played? Does anyone?

It's not worth the $ to get some great keeper to play 8 games then make way for Danny when he gets back.

It's also definitely not worth paying Trott a wage if he isn't capable of doing what backup keepers do: fill in when required.

I for one am looking forward to seeing what Trotty can do with a full pre-season knowing that he will be the starting keeper. This is a great opportunity for him. It is also make or break for his career. If he does well in this period, it will be the start of better things. If he fails, Lawrie can at least judge that properly rather than just from 160 crazy minutes last December. But he will get a fair go to show his worth and I think that's great.

Actually it was 3 other games for Vukovic and he kept 2 clean sheets and conceded 1 goal

Lets see what a solid pre season does for him and time to prepare for games rather than being thrown to the lions half way through a game

You have a good point. the way i see it though is:
CCM Vs SFC: Unexpectedly having to come on mid game for the red carded GK, Im sure that was the last thing anyone expected to happen. Biggest attendance, derby and down to 10 men. Also no time to warm-up properly because you have to be on the field RIGHT NOW. I would be feeling the pressure as well.

CCM Vs MV: just having conceded 5 goals which is a rare feat for any GK (even the bad ones). In what was arguably the best domestic match in australia in a good while. his confidence would have rightly been shot.

in general: Danny and Trott are 2 completly different types of GK. Danny playing more like a deep outfielder, trying to stop momentum asap. and Trott more of a shot stopper not straying too far away from the goal mouth. The defenders have to play more to the GK's style not the other way round.

Dont forget, rhere could be overseas offers for danny if he plays and performs in the olympics. It is possible we will not see him in the yellow and navy again.

The club suggested they will be bringing in another keeper from the media reports about danny's change in suspension. I think it is prudent to give him some competition. But, since i doubt redmayne will be given a pay cut and sent to the youth team, that would leave us with 4 keepers if danny doesnt go.

Is there a salary cap for the youth team?

Give Him a chance.  10 goals you say, where was the defence.  GK last man standing 10 other people to get through.

Let's get off his back.  I've seen excellent keeping by Trott

He was on fire that game against Queensland, give the guy a chance, I remember how nervous Vukovic was when he started. Give Trotty a go, with a whole PSC & 6 A-League games under his belt he could be a good replacement for Vukovic.

Hes saved some brilliant goals in the 3 games he filled in while Danny was on Ollyroo duty. Including some screamers in Perth, when everyone else was dying from the heat, he just kept on going and going. Its unfortunate that he let in 10 goals in 2 games but what many forget is that he was playing injured.

Looking through the games highlights a few weeks ago, the goals were not his fault.

Add to that the fact he had not played in so many weeks and he was in kalac's position.

Given a youth league last season i think trott would have stepped up when he got the nod due to match sharpness he lacked.

Plus in that MV game our defence was horrible and four of the five goals came from mistakes from Brown in defence.

gave vs syndey in canberra around this time last year he was amazing. Nothing was going to get past him that day. There is some potential. He gets my vote as our 1st choice keeper for 8 weeks and a preseason

Alternate between Redmayne and Trott in pre-season....... whoever does the best plays the first 8 games, simple.
