This problem will repeat itself every time we make the GF.
Either show some backbone & fight the FFA (court action if necessary)or just crawl away defeated like last time.

The only other option as I see it is to start the process for a 40,000 seat stadium on the coast.

Let`s face it sooner or later we will outgrow Bluetongue & with the Central Coast Bears becoming a reality a 40k stadium will soon become a necessity on the coast.

I don't think they crawled away defeated last time. There was a definite crowd figure well above BT's capacity that were interested in attending the GF. This case is not so clear cut and should be fought for, tooth and nail.

Totally agree that a larger capacity ground will be needed on the coast if a CC Bears team were to gain entry to the NRL. If so, the best result for us would be a redeveloped BT to house the Bears so that we have the option of relocating to a smaller boutique stadium at the tuggerah complex (when we can afford to) during the season and play Finals or big games at BT.

The problem is that BTS cannot be expanded to the level that would be needed. If the Bears are successful then maybe the best result would be leave BTS as is and look at the development of a large stadium on the site of Tuggerah Oval. A DA has gone in for the area, I don't know who by.

Smaller Bears games at BTS - bigger games at Tuggerah. We can also use the same criteria for Mariners games.

You cannot take FFA to court because the rules have been in place from season 1. The FFA holds the rights to all finals games and can choose where to play them. The FFA work with the clubs to find a suitable venue however they need to consider not only fans but corporates and other matters.
The Mariners signed up the these rules at the start of the season and they know exactly what will happen as does every other club. If Newcastle or Gold Coast earnt the right to host final it would be held in Sydney or Brisbane depending on the opposition.

Really???

Do you seriously think that we will be regularly attracting 20k+ per game? I dont... not in my lifetime. How many Sydney NRL teams average 20k+?

I would rather divert our resources into building a purpose built 15-18k football stadium. Plenty of atmoshpere and noise. There maybe a couple of blockbuster games where fans miss out, but you know what... if you're a season ticket holder, your seat is assured.

Smaller stadium = cheaper to build, more incentive to become a season ticket holder so as to reserve a seat (more revenue for the club), more atmosphere.

Unfortunately it will mean no gf but so be it.

I think BT is a good size for a club of our stature.

Its also in a good location for travelling fans from Sydney or Newcastle because they can easily jump on the train up to Gosford.

I don't think we should waste any money on a new stadium. It makes no sense when we are already spending all our cash on the COE (which is a much smarter way of spending).

The league will be much healthier if the FFA start worrying about the fans and the clubs and stop being overly concerned with short term cash. (just push the BT prices for the GF a little higher if you need to.) I'm sure we would all rather pay an extra $10 than go to the SFS for the game.

The FFA are corrupt and incompetent but without them having to help Victory (highly unlikely to make GF) or Sydney this year we should be allowed to host our own final. Otherwise its one rule for every club apart from Mariners.

Even when we played Scum in GF, SFS was only 3/4 full so they have no hope of filling it with any of the likely teams to contest the final this year.

A full and rocking BT will be a great advert for HAL not a half empty SFS.

Hopefully Gorman will bring a bit of intergrity to the table for a change.

Have to agree with your sentiments, but there were very few spare seats available for 08 Grand Final. 36 000+ present

Lets qualify 1st before we worry. I would love to say lets miss the GF if its in Sydney, but there is no way I would. Any suggestions on what we could do as fans to make an impact on this situation. Game needs to be at BT.

IF...
I repeat
"IF" this occurs...

I promise that I will personally organise a protest on FFA headquarters, that would of course focus on drawing as much media attention as possible to the protest. I am not without resources and believe I could do a very able job FFA.

It would be very sad to play into the hands of the anti football media, however to move a GF against an out of state team would not be a fair or reasonable course of action and as such, like others have declared, I would fight it tooth and nail this time.

Moving the GF would not be merited, fair or necessary this time...

As mentioned, yes you could hike ticket sales, and we'd at least be saving on paying $20 a pop parking at SFS or coach ticket costs in any case, but there are other ways to raise money off an event like this which the FFA already fails to capitalise on imo.

If we were to have a GF at BT, they should fence off a giant screen area in the park opposite, charge an admission fee, with beer tents, food stalls, gimmicks, games, merchandise tents etc... live bands all day, and guest appearances by a celeb or two, the Mayor, Lawrie, Marvin, Arnie, possibly Wilko, and some former Mariner greats...

This is a chance for the FFA to have an incredible showcase event for the league that would ignite an entire region and create huge crowds regardless if not all of them would get to be able to be in the actual stadium.

This event should be seen as the opportunity that it is, and not be scrapped for what on one level it could not.

Those points aside, the desire to show respect to their fans and customers should in of itself be enough to keep the GF here if we get the hosting rights.

But it may not be. So let's see what happens.

So there were 10,000 empty seats then?

My apologies for my poorly worded response.

I was agreeing with the sentiments about where the GF should be played but disagreeing that the stadium was only 75% full. There were very few seats to spare.

Difference was heaps of Scum supporters came down... remember the train thing ... Newcastle trains missed the CC stops and so on... cannot see another team getting fans to travel to Sydney in the numbers the Scum did...

Also if we beat the Roar to the GF then the final needs to be played at Suncorp meaning there is their big crowd....

But a big ask to knock over this Brisbane side and beat them to the finals they are a top top top side...

Anyone got any idea about the seating? Is Cat A = Regular season Gold seats and Cat B = The rest of the seats?

Where is the restricted view?

Mariners supporter, is that just Bay 16 or a few bays behind the goals?

Will find out when I go to ticketek but just wondering if anyone here knew.

You're right. It wasn't 75% full. It was 80% full.

36 / 45 = 0.8
