Things have changed a lot over the years, but one thing has remained constant and that is our love of the Mariners. People come and go, some like to post a lot and others just like to read. It's up to you how you participate in the community!

If posting is not your thing, you can interact in other ways, including voting on polls, and unlock options only available to community members.

ccmfans.net is not only for Mariners fans either. Most of us are bonded by our support for the Mariners, but if you are a fan of another club (except the Scum, come on, we need some standards), feel free to join and get into some banter.

If anybody had the misfortune of watching the SFC v Wellington game last night you would appreciate the CCM approach to the game this season. SFC were absolutely dire with 29 fouls conceded, 4 yellow cards and 1 shot on target with a squad that must be worth a million $ more than ours. I am sure that Phil Moss is wearing a Graham Arnold disguise and has secretly taken over the team. 90 minutes of my life I will never get back and consistent with their performances against Glory and Brisbane.

Was there for work. Sydney this year is revealing an unfortunate truth about Mossball.

Mossball was simply what happens when the Arnie system (which Moss inherited) is robbed of its cutting edge.

Arnie had strong attacking outlets to ensure that his dour, defensive structure (which solved one key football problem: stop the opposition scoring goals) also had an attacking outlet (to solve the other key football problem: to score goals).

2010/11:
Goals/game: 1.63
Conceded/game: 1.00
Top scorers (league + finals): Simon (11) and Kwasnik (10)

2011/12:
Goals/game: 1.48
Conceded/game: 0.89
Top scorers (league + finals): Ibibi-Isei (7), Simon, Zwaanswijk (both 7), Kwasnik (6)

2012/13:
Goals/game: 1.78
Conceded/game: 0.81
Top scorers (league + finals): McBreen (19), Duke (7), Ibini-Isei, McGlinchey (both 6)

2013/14:
Goals/game: 1.22
Conceded/game: 1.33
Top scorers (league + finals): Ibini (6), Flores, Sterjovski, Duke, Fitzgerald (all 3)

2014/15:
Goals/game: 0.96
Conceded/game: 1.85
Top scorers (league): Bosnar, Ferreira, Simon, Duke (all 3)

You can see the shit years are the ones where we don't have enough of a threat.

The key learning from this is that it wasn't all about Moss. You can see the trajectory starting in 2013/14.

Goals scored per game and conceded per game can tell you plenty about a team too.

This year, Sydney's on 1.00 and 0.75, reflecting the fact that the defence is great but the go-forward is rubbish. The problem for Arnie is that it's not like he's got a brand new side that he's melding into something for the future. This is a mature group.

For Walmsley, he's at least got the luxury of a little time to keep working on the final outcomes. We're running at 1.29 and 2.00, but our first four games were 1.5 and 2.5. The last three were 1.00 and 1.33. We're solving the defensive problem and need to pick up the attack.

But it's a balance. We started too light on defence, now we're a little short in attack, but we can see what they're trying to do.

And as LB says above, at least we're watchable. Sydney was mechanical and predictable last night. But the worst bit is that they didn't even seem to read each others' paint by numbers movements. It was pretty dire.

And when Brosque hit the upright I laughed really loudly...

Watched about 20 mins and turned it off. Constant fouls and both teams couldn't string two passes together.

Arnie is rich to complain about teams fouling his players after that game as well.

Much rather watch us keep developing...

I did tell you Sydney were gash before we played them.
If the ref hadn't have been a blatant FFA stooge we would have had 3 points that night.
Arnie is being found out somewhat.
