ccmfans.net is the Central Coast Mariners fan community, and was formed in 2004, so basically the beginning of time for the Mariners. Things have changed a lot over the years, but one thing has remained constant and that is our love of the Mariners. People come and go, some like to post a lot and others just like to read. It's up to you how you participate in the community!

If you want to get rid of this message, simply click on Join Now or head over to https://www.ccmfans.net/community/register/ to join the community! It only takes a few minutes, and joining will let you post your thoughts and opinions on all things Mariners, Football, and whatever else pops into your mind. If posting is not your thing, you can interact in other ways, including voting on polls, and unlock options only available to community members.

ccmfans.net is not only for Mariners fans either. Most of us are bonded by our support for the Mariners, but if you are a fan of another club (except the Scum, come on, we need some standards), feel free to join and get into some banter.

Charlesworth on his directive for our play
Charlesworth hands cavalier Mariners a licence to lose
Central Coast boss Mike Charlesworth took the unprecedented step of telling coach Tony Walmsley he doesn’t care how many matches the Mariners lose this season – so long as they entertain.
"We’re competing with the release of the new James Bond (Spectre) on Saturday night. Do families go to James Bond or the Halloween party at Central Coast Stadium?
"For me, it’s about building the supporter base … unless we can do that there’s no future. If that means results suffering in short term, then so be it.
We want to be one of the highest rated to clubs in the competition. Right now we’re down near the bottom. We want people thinking, 'you know what, I am going to watch the Mariners match' rather than say Sydney FC because we're fun to watch. That's what it's about.
“I think I can say with some certainty there won’t be any goalless draws at Central Coast Stadium this season.”

Yep. I like the idea of an exciting playing style but I think he has taken it a bit far by saying we don't care about results, as long as we entertain.
Losing every week is not entertaining*.

* Not entertaining to Mariners fans, that is. To "the neutrals", well, they get to see a good game.
:tinfoilhat: Maybe a bit tin foil hat time (that's meant to be a tin foil hat, not a funnel), I'm seeing this as our way of improving on "key metrics" that have been identified as issues with Wellington Phoenix.

Gallop identified crowds, television ratings and memberships as three key metrics that the Phoenix are failing to deliver in.

The main one Charlesworth is pointing out is TV ratings. Crowds/Memberships you would think are pretty closely linked? Bigger crowds, more likely that some of those will join?

On the positive side, I think Walmsley is out there to win a few.
Telling fans/members we don't care about results isn't really the best message IMO.

I'm happy with this because I think it's win win - master this style and we'll definitely win more than a few. just may take a while to come together

Our TV ratings are usually pretty low but I am hearing fans of other clubs saying they want to watch CCM games this season.
If this translates into decent TV ratings that can only be good for us.

Maybe what Charlesworth REALLY wants is one of these .........

Yeah, I'm not going to take Charlesworth's statement for more than I think it's meant. A show of carte blanche support/commitment. Which is definitely helpful at this juncture I think. Means TW can lose while he tries to get things right without copping all the will his head roll conjecture and pressure... This will give the players and coach confidence to move ahead as planned and develop, and not start to panic and abandon ship after a couple of bad weeks.

But in wining it's the coach and players that matter. TW and the players obviously want to do well, s0 really it all just breaks down to is play attractive football and try and get results is the aim - whereas play unattractive and maybe get results is not acceptable.

Re metrics, yeah think that might be pretty astute.
Moss was is the press this weak saying Gallop's intent to "fish where the fish are" etc, was clearly something that all smaller HAL clubs not just the Nix need to worry about. But Gallop is not stupid, he wants to grow in the big markets, (which is fine) but also that it's not good for the HAL to just become sydney vs Melbourne. So unsure how I feel about SFC's melt down about a possible 3rd SYd team as yet. Seen their claims about south sydney membership base, but if they can't prosper with the numbers still in their catchment, maybe they should stop being such a pack of wankers and change their approach. They have been such an unlikeable club for the most part. (At least that's how they've come across to me Dibo)

Anyway, for mine it's South Coast Wolves or Canberra that should be the next license.

Agree on either of those 2

Wolves reinstated would bring back a lot of their 'old NSL' fans, with the same name/colours enables them to dust off the old jerseys and wear them again with some pride + new fans wanting to be a part of the league.

Canberra Football have invested a lot of resources with their W-League team. But will the auto-crats come out of the concrete bunkers to support an A-League team ???

At least they'd all be able to go to a game, drink like fish & get cheap transport home home afterwards :p

Yeah we know it's such a strong football area still, and could well even prove a bit of a sleeping HAL giant in a regional club kind of way. Good for the league with the extra derbies etc.

We are leading the league in the shots stats, check them out:
http://www.aleaguestats.com/ALeagueStats_31_2015ShootingStats.html

We are going to get wins and probably absolutely destroy somebody this season.

Yes but i think our shots on target percentage is the worst in the league. Im loving our intent but want to see two things....

1. Quality finishing.

2. Above 10yo level defending.

Check that link, we are 6th for on target. Not far behind the club in first and quite better than the two worst.

Matty Simon had a shot at Charlesworth on the news.
Coasties aren't stupid, they are hard working and I'm one of them. If they want entertainment they can go to Erina fair.
