We always knew he would be hard to keep ...

Yep. No HAL clubs are going to keep the youngsters who prove to have star potential. We have no choice but to get used to it and hope they get good value/prices.

Pasfild is "decent". But sure hope Crawley is working on his distribution. Was ok in his box, stopping was ok too I thought, but distribution was slow and really wasn't a patch on Matty's.

I agree with FP. Pasfield looked solid when Matty was not available, but his distribution looked very average, or looked that way possibly because Matty's is so brilliant.

Good luck to Matty. It was always inevitable.

Bah, no more fire sales indeed. I realise this is different though.

I like Pasfield and think he is a decent gk but he doesn't instil the confidence in the back 4 the way that Matty does, less sure of himself and decisive. This was with moderately little actual game time under his belt though. I'm confident Arnie & Crawley know what they are doing so will just need to trust and relax.

Early days yet but still - best of luck to Matty he deserves it, and hopefully it works out to a nice pay day for the club

Good luck to Maty if he goes. Howver, I think he needs another year or two. He still makes mistakes, usually in games where we are not under the gun. This is the sign of the need for greater concentration.

Here he has a defence, a manager, a keeping coach and a fanbase that he has the respect of and forgive him the occasional stuff up because of his enormous potential and generally great goalkeeping. If he fouls up in England he will quickly end up on the bench - it is very unforgiving on young keepers.

The Championship would be an excellent starting point for Ryan - England may be unforgiving for young keepers but equally Ryan needs to prove himself and if he does he and Australia will be the better for it.
As for Pasfield - he was rusty when he replaced Ryan last year because he had little playing time but he improved noticeably - two remarkable saves in the 3-3 with GCU - but no one would ever pretend he is in the class of Ryan.
But people, as ever, will write the Mariners off at their peril.

Ryan has won almost every individual honour the A League can offer and has played for the Olyroos and had one call up for the Socceroos - he has nothing more to prove to the local game. If he gets the chance for a Championship club he should take it even if he is not guaranteed a starting spot (which he won't be) - how long has it taken Federici to establish himself as Reading's no.1? If he believes in himself then he should back himself and give it a go.

Any new?
As much as it'll be sad to lose him I'm gunning for him to Schwarz his career

Didn't know about the shoulder injury, hoping it's nothing serious though doesn't sound like it.
I think it's more or less safe to assume he's going, well done Maty!

" Central Coast Mariners keeper Matt Ryan is hoping that he can complete a move to Tottenham.

The 20-year-old spent a week training with the north Londoners under the watchful eye of Tony Parks and Pat Jennings and is waiting to hear back from Spurs.

“I was happy with the way I went and the feedback I got from both Spurs and West Brom was positive, so I’ll just have to wait and see now if anything comes out of it,” Ryan said.

“It was a great learning experience and something I’ll never forget.

“The injury was a little bit of a setback and that’s why I’ve come back a little bit early.

“But overall I feel positive about the trip and what might come out of it. In some ways it was surreal and it’s made me determined to push on and take my game to another level again.

“I got the shoulder knock while training at Tottenham, and it got a little bit better and then it started to bother me again at West Brom, so it was decided to call things short.”

His agent, Warren Craig, has also revealed that Burnley, Derby County and Birmingham City are all interested in Ryan.

“All three contacted me when we were there and wanted to have a look at Matt, so obviously he is gaining something of a reputation,” Craig said.

“However, the shoulder injury really decided things for us in terms of cutting the trip short.” "

I think pjennings will be quietly impressed that Mat Ryan trained under the expert eye of one Pat Jennings

"One possibility might be for him to sign and then be loaned out immediately, whether it's back to the Mariners or to a Championship side."

Be great to have an Amini situation occur with Maty
